Mr.Canada Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 The plan is to issue an interim order on Oct. 19 to begin shipping up to five million doses of the H1N1 vaccine. The goal is to have the vaccine ready for distribution a week later on Oct. 26 — at least two weeks ahead of the previously scheduled rollout. The interim order hinges on quality-control testing of each lot of vaccine as it comes out of GlaxoSmithKline's plant in Quebec City. If there is a problem with quality control, the earlier rollout could be cancelled. Source As we roll into yet another flu season, this is indeed great news that Canadians will be able to get the vaccine that much sooner. This is great news from the Federal Health Officials. They took the criticism of not having the vaccine when some other G 20 nations did and pressured GlaxoSmithKline, who is manufacturing the vaccine for Canadians) to step up the release of the vaccine so we can better protect Canadians. This news should save some lives to be sure with the flu season upon us and the added threat of H1N1 this news cannot come a moment too soon. hope this will make Canadians happier and relieve some of the stress felt by many Canadians. Keepitsimple Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I suppose I should be grateful that our government can react to large "health problems" but I'm still very unsettled by how the media and pharmaceutical giants have created a mountain out of a molehill. Every year, 4000-8000 Canadians die from the effects of seasonal flu - that's an average of 333 to 666 deaths per month. Since the onset of the H1N1 "pandemic", there have been a total of 79 deaths that have included H1N1 as a contibuting factor. H1N1 is just another variation of the flu - recognized to be milder than many strains of seasonal flu. I think we're well overdue to put things in perspective. I think the pharmaceutical companies have made enough money.
