Smallc Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 No. You should probably look to the Constitution for that. The short answer is: the amending formula. Quote
jbg Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 What if the power went to this guy's head and he turned into a Bush! I don't think any party should have that much power.Trudeau did just fine on that note. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." jbg Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 All we see is a lot of huffing and puffing from the Tories but they are the ones who delayed the bill and are now playing games.Delayed the bill by not accepting ridiculous changes? Mr.Canada Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 And a majority of the Liberals agree. Too bad the Tories didn't allow the vote to go through Thursday as the amendment would have been defeated and the legislation passed. We've been demanding changed for years now. The Liberals had a good 10 years to fix it and they chose to do nothing, they have no credibility when it comes to fighting crime, it was the Liberals who sunk us into this mess. I suppose these must be new bills that are still under wraps. What'll these result in, a cop on every corner or troops? If you believe post writ Liberal propaganda from 2004 then sure. If you have at least one foot in reality then no. We just want some accountability on the part of the criminal to own up for his actions and take responsibility for them. The justice system is a laughing stock of the world and is very soft. We need to shore that up with stiff mandatory minimums which even the NDP support, it's in their plan on their website. Aside from the that we need 2 for 1 gone and automatic parole done away with. Much more needs to be done but that will be a good place to begin. punked Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Apparently there is some rumour that Bob Rae caused all of this on his way to knocking off Iggy for Leadership. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...ub=TopStoriesV2 Quote
Sir Bandelot Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 "The amendment would also give judges discretion in awarding pre-sentencing credits, and would require an explanation for their decision." Aye, there's the rub. Let the judges judge. Not blanket decisions by some backbencher, once upon a time. Quote
ToadBrother Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Please explain something to me. IF the Tories got a majority in the House and Harper replaces the leaving Liberals with Tories in the senate, what is stopping him from either doing away with the senate or changing the constitution. Wouldn't the Tories have all the power and do ANYTHING they want?? What if the power went to this guy's head and he turned into a Bush! I don't think any party should have that much power. Because he can't do it himself, that's why. Brush up on the amending formulas. What they don't include is "Prime Minister goes nuts". Quote
ToadBrother Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Trudeau did just fine on that note. There's stuff in the Constitution that Trudeau most certainly didn't like, in particular the Not Withstanding Clause. Quote

Bob Rae sure isn't one of those. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone."
