maplesyrup Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 How the GTA pays the freight for Confederation in Ontario Poor Dennis Mills, the saviour of the Liberal Party of Canada (Toronto division) had barely finished distributing his masterwork -- a binder purporting to document the generosity of federal spending in this region -- when another nasty economist snuck up and blew him to bits with a full-bore blast of the truth. I don't know why Mills even bothers to run, as he is done like dinner. Everything I am hearing says that the Liberals are in serious trouble in the GTA. maplesyrup Posted May 15, 2004 Author Report Posted May 15, 2004 Bylaw officers remove Mills' signs Sign by sign, Liberal MP Dennis Mills' self-appointed campaign to save the waterfront is coming down.In the past week, bylaw enforcement officers have removed 34 of the signs from public property and issued orders related to 35 others on private property after determining the signs, which include the Toronto-Danforth MP's picture and the words "Save the Waterfront," are in violation of city bylaws. Pam Coburn, executive director of licensing and standards, said she's particularly concerned about property owners who may not realize that the signs are illegal because they were put up without the required city permit. If city workers find the signs still in place after the expiry date listed on the order, they will be removed by a private contractor and the cost included on the property owner's tax bill, Coburn said. "We're certainly hoping we can avoid that," Coburn said. "(We want) to be persuasive about getting the owners to take them down because I think in many cases, the owners weren't aware the signs were illegal." As for the signs seized from public property, Coburn said charges could be laid only if the individuals who put them there can be identified. The city has a "seizure fee" of $125 per sign in the unlikely event someone comes forward to claim them, Coburn said. Perhaps Mills really is brain-dead.
