Yet PM Harper has no American cloaking device like Ignatieff. Or many years living in America. Is being the most "Canadian" a counterintuitive experience?

Really? Who are you trying to kid? I remember when Haper first got to the PMO, one of the first visitors he had was the US leader of Senate or Congress. I can't remember his name but he was a doctor before getting elected. He also had US advisors telling him how he should play the game of politics! I think its safe to say that the Conservatives or the PC's have had a very close ties to the US.
