bjre Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/659270 Passport photo puts woman behind barsToronto resident jailed, fined and detained for not looking like her 4-year-old ID picture Jul 01, 2009 04:30 AM A Toronto woman says she faces jail in Kenya because she no longer looks like her passport photo. Suaad Mohamud Haji, 31, concedes she has lost weight, changed her glasses and maybe looks a bit darker-skinned since the photo was taken more than four years ago. But that is no reason for jailing her for eight days, making her put up $2,500 (U.S.) bail and keeping her in limbo for two months before a hearing that could lead to jail again. CAMP Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/659270 Seems we need to address just how our government looks after Canadians abroad. Sad that this had to happen for so long. This woman deserves better. I will make it a point to check my passport if I go out of country. Michael Hardner Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 bjre has made the case before that China is no better than Canada on Human Rights. Here's another brick in the wall of his argument, such as it is. Somehow, a woman being accused of using fake ID and being jailed in Canada warrants this comment from bjre: "This is the real human right situation in Canada." This post indicates that bjre's arguments are still very far from reality. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
CANADIEN Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I must be missing something here. A woman from Toronto is threatened with jail in KENYA because she no longer looks like her passport photo. How is that indicative of human rights in Canada? Anyone? Quote
Michael Hardner Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 That's a bjre thing, CANADIEN. bjre also indicated that China's human rights record is similar to Canada's because we allowed the US to detain suspected terrorists. bjre somehow thinks this is the same as jailing citizens who speak their opinions on government. Sir Bandelot Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) I think the implication is that the government is not acting on this. She has been waiting for assistance for about 5 weeks now. The slackards in Ottawa need to get off their butts, stop surfing the internet and do some work... for a change. It should be fairly easy to confirm her identity, considering her family lives here. She has her passport and citizenship card, and drivers license, But of course, that would require someone to take an interest in this case, and get directly involved. Seems more like a problem of apathy. Away with these useless and vacant-minded maggots, the bureaucrats. Edited July 1, 2009 by Sir Bandelot Quote

Nope, I think the human right situation in Canada is far worse than China. In Canada, a citizen did not challenge its political system, and have no relationship with terrorism, only because she is weak, she can be persecuted for thing such as: a photo on passport took 4 year ago, or have a different opinion on what and how to tell her children. This is not the only news we hear about the cops bullying weak people. They do this regularly. This is how they keep their huge budget for cops, courts, and jails. Even when the police already realized the woman is Canada's own citizen, she still face the threat of jail. Is that the way you like the cops to treat on you? Do you like to spend several days in jail when you have absolutely nothing to do with any criminal behavior? I have no doubt that there are bureaucrats whose brains have taken a vacation - both here and in Kenya. But I think that we all (except for brje) agree that this has little to do with the state of human rights in this country. Quote

Were you actually trying to make a point, or just be as moronic as you possibly could. I can go on the sidewalk right by my police station and hand out flyers about how they killed a Polish guy in a Vancouver airport, and call for the dissolution of the RCMP and the current government to be trounced. And you know what, about the only way I'm going to be arrested is if I'm doing it at 3am with a megaphone. When you can do the same in China, you let me know. Quote

I am sorry to bring this topic because I thought it happened in Canada. As for the police stations thing, it will be ok if you do it in China, you can even do it at 3am without be arrested, but be aware of beaten by angry people whose dreams are broken. To make police notice, you need to be able to gather 100 people there block the side walk.
