My kids told me they saw the conservative attack ads against Ignatieff runnung on YTV today? Can anyone verify if the conservatives have really sunk low enough to start running their attack ads on children's channels? If this is true it is more evidence of what a slimy scumbag Harper really is.

I guess that would suggest the mental age of their supporters nowadays.

I see them quite often on the Action station...

Which is owned by Corus, the comany that also owns YTV.

I may be tempted to give the Conservatives the benefit of the doubt here. They may have just purchased publicity time from Corus, who then decided where to air it.

YTV is still not an appropriate media for political advertising though.

I would agree with Canadian. I don`t think Harper had anything to do with placing the ads there. Calling him a scumbag is well over the top. Only a sad loser would call somebody that without any proof of his personal involvement.

There is nothing wrong with political adverstising on youth stations. Perhaps it is the content that is offensive to the posters here.

If the political adverstising said....

"We are going to clean up our air, water, and make your education better with greater access to post secondary education. All who wish to continue to be doctors, lawyers, nurses, will not be held back because of their parents social status. Your government is here to help the youth of today be the future of tommorrow...."

Or...... "remember to switch it OFF" ... those were good political commercials too..

However, commercials that suggest Ignatieff is an intellectual goof, who is an arrogant jerk.... vote for the dink in the blue conservative suit and make your Canada better.....

Might not be so appropriate for Youth TV.

Is there anything in these ads that is not truthful?

If not - then I am not one to call them attack ads.

In fact they are informations ads.

As my neighbour told me this morning - he calls them "truth" ads.

If the truth hurts - then so be it.

Advertising on YTV seems like a waste of time and funding given that the specific demographic for that channel cannot vote. Another mistake on the part of the political machine.

YTV, like all the cable stations, often runs movies and other programs which have a somewhat wider appeal, and could be expected to draw adult audiences.

The truth is that Harper would rather go after others than govern.

I suppose that is true isn't it? I didn't give it much thought, but upon reflection I guess you are right. I will maintain that the target demographic is off a country mile in my opinion, but that is just me.

I would suggest that it is gutter politics. About the right level for our current Prime Minister.

It is a dirty game - one that the chretien and martin teams did well at. In fact excelled at - nice to see some turn about.

Be that as it may - I ask again:

Is there anything in these ads that is not truthful?

If there is - or they have been falsified to mislead - then perhaps they could be considered an attack.

If there was anything not truthful - I am certain the libs would be in the courts and the ads would be pulled

Now - how many people in Canada do not know about this transplanted American? I would venture many - from young to old - simply because of the standard Canadian apathy. If they encourage discussion then I am all for them.

You do not have to like it - the truth may hurt - but it is the truth.

That is the pot calling the kettle black - you are so rabid in your convictions you are blind to the past.

True...

If you look at the schedule for YTV, they do have cartoons like Spongebob Squarepants during the day, but tonight they have:

- Malcom in the Middle

- Futurama (a cartoon, but one that is not necessarily geared towards kids)

- Fresh Prince of Bel-air

Each one of those shows would have at least some interest to those outside the 'children' demographic. (Given the fact that the channel runs 24/7, and not too many kids are up past midnight, you'd expect them to have at least some material that appeals to non-children)

Well, the sad fact is that if he donesn't "go after others", he might loose all chance to govern.

Politics is messy. Nice guys can and do finish last. For that, see "Stanfield, Robert".

As others have pointed out, the Tories willingness to get dirty is certainly not that different from actions taken in the past by Liberal governments.

Hard to tell why he wants the job when he is so focused on what is in the rear view mirror.

And sometimes nasty guys get tossed as well.

Which Harper said he was not going to emulate.

Just pointing out that Harper acts like sociopath in his behaviour. Are you so rabid in your convictions that you don't see that? He is known as Mr. Mean in Quebec. Not exactly the most electable title.

If corus wants to run bullshit attack ads during my kids programs I guess that is their right, its my right however to delete those channels from my channel list until they smarten up. Maybe I'll start a facebook group called delete Corus. We can encourage everyone to delete the chorus stations from their satelite channel guide as long as they choose to spew Harperganda.

Excuse me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that the target of YTV is children and teenages. Not young adults. Then, political ads of any stripes have no place there.

Ads encouraging children to become what they can be and to help reserve the energy are political?

In kebec? Well, that is a place that needs a lesson or two on how to be Canadian at the best of times.

Certainly they have a party that is supported by folks in that province - who are dedicated to breaking up the country.

I'm sure some on the right would like to give that lesson.

We have people in Alberta as well who are committed to breaking up the country.

People in many provinces actually

Not sitting in the national house and receiving tax payer support though.

Mind you the kebec gang of crooks, thugs and misfits are a regional party and should have their asses kicked out of the house of commons

Ok, seriously, is it not against the rules of this forum to intentionally misspell the name of a Canadian province for the purpose of insulting it?
