Cuzzin E
The planet today has fifty-five thousand nuclear weapons, almost all of which are more powerful than the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasai, and some of these bombs are a thousand times more powerful. Some twenty to twenty-two thousand of these are called stragetic weapons. If we were to define a city as having more than one hundred thousand people in it, there are twenty-three hundred cities on Earth. The United States and the Soviets could, if they wished, destroy every city on Earth and have eighteen thousand stragetic weapons left over to do something else with. Here is a fun scenario: Let's say Russia decides to stop making nuclear weapons for 10 years and we decide to make Anti-nukes for those 10 years. It is believed that we could get rid of 90% of the nukes the Russians could send at us. The remaining 10% would still be enough to destroy the world tenfold. A proposal: Take the billions of dollars spent yearly on these weapons and spend it on something else, FTW.
cybercoma
Mutually assured destruction is a tactic for creating a balance of power at the world level. Who knows what nations would do without that balance of power in place, but death would be relief from what would potentially happen as states attempt to redefine their borders without those nuclear deterrents.
