Police probe cyber attack on Liberals

Toronto police are investigating an alleged attempt by a Progressive Conservative to hack into the Ontario Liberal party's website.

Interim Tory Leader Bob Runciman said a PC staffer, who was initially suspended, has resigned after the alleged tampering was traced to two computers located in the Conservative offices in the north wing of the Legislature.

"I'm absolutely not happy with this," Runciman, a former solicitor general, said last night.

"We're co-operating fully with the police on this. There's no reason to keep this behind the curtain," he said, declining to name the former staffer as criminal charges could be laid.

The PCs are categorizing it as a rogue element in staffing that was responsible.

It certainly doesn't help a party that is looking to recover after its leader failed to win a seat.

I can believe it was a "rogue element". It's exactly the sort of thing some young, arrogant Turk would try! The same ones that wouldn't listen to experienced voices during an election campaign and would come up with something as stupid as bringing up extending funding for religious schools.

Smart-asses like the Liberal Warren Kinsella, only not as smart.

That's often the curse of the young. Lots of intelligence, lots of experience with new technologies and gadgets but little or no extended, hands-on experience of what works in the real world or what could bring negative consequences as a delayed reaction.

It almost seems as if the Ontario PC's are staffed by adolescents!

Probably there was a purge of experience after Mike Harris' term, maybe based on ideology by the Red Tories.

Well, the results speak for themselves! I guess we'll soon see if this party will get it's act together or not.

it always is a rogue isn't it.

Not always, but to say that it's NEVER a rogue is equally unrealistic! That's just being partisan.

Occam's Razor says that it's likely that most times it IS a rogue! Political machines attract cocky, arrogant personalities. Since parties often need unpaid volunteers they must take what they can get. Weeding them out can be a full-time job.

Again, I think the Ontario PC's likely put their screening efforts into keeping out Blue Tories of a Mike Harris persuasion and didn't pay attention if the worker was still just an a**hole.

Cyber attacks of any kind are a show of utter cowardice. Before the protectection of evil that the net provides - because it is lawless - IF some human being offended you verbally - or physically - YOU COULD GIVE THEM A GOOD PUNCH IN THE HEAD. Now pencil necked geeks who can not even accomplish orgasm with a woman - or even do something as basic as lighting a camp fire - are the big and proud warriors....IF you can not say something right to a man or woman and look them in the eye in the real world - then you should shut up on the keyboard.

Violence is seldom the answer in civilized society. what does orgasm witha woman have to do with anything? We get it. You're straight and wonderful.
