Maxime Bernier says he's flattered by a movement to make him leader of the right-wing Action democratique du Quebec but the controversial Tory has no intention to leave Ottawa any time soon.

Dozens of members of the populist Quebec party have joined an Internet campaign to persuade the former foreign affairs minister to ditch federal politics and lead the ADQ into the next provincial election.

Since he isn't likely to ever get a job with Harper again, he should consider his options.

Maybe he has other plans, such as aspiring to replace Harper as CPC leader once Ignatieff pulls the plug. CPC might even pick up a few seats in Quebec with Bernier as leader.

Here's my prediction. Bernier will be in Ottawa long after Harper slithers back into Alberta.

Bernier will never, ever leave the Federal Gravy train willingly. No cause is more important then the federal trough.

Haha. It's sadly true :(

And Harper too has never earned as much as he has at the federal trough.

By contrast, Ignatieff took a pay cut when he joined the Liberals. In 2006, the average Harvard salary was $US168,700.

This was the average for all ranks, i.e., Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Full Professor. Ignatieff was a senior Full Professor which would have placed his salary between $US200,000 and $US300,000 in 2006.

What does that have to do with anything? Dumbest point ever. He's in a position where money doesn't matter. That's like saying Dick Cheney took a pay cut when he was in the Bush administration. Duh?!

Don't act like he made some huge sacrifice leaving the university. He'll still probably be earning money for published work and he only came to Canada to run for the federal leadership. If he becomes PM, which was his plan all along, his salary will likely be the same as it was at Harvard.

I believe Bernier is independently wealthy and comes from a wealthy family. I don't believe for a minute that he needs the Federal Trough, I am suggesting that while he is at the trough he is going to have his head in it. Quebec Politics and leading the ADQ would be work. I don't see Bernier as a person who works. He is a person of entitlement.

Bernier is the opposite of Harper. Harper will take on a fight, he may sulk when he loses, or get petty if he wins, but he will fight.

It reminds me of motorcycle racing (Everything does).

Some guys wear the leather and work hard, to win the race and are very upset if they come 2nd.

Other guys wear the leathers to get the girls, and don't even show up at the start line.

The goals are different.
