maplesyrup Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 As I continue to watch this circus unfold , I really am beginning to wonder what it must have been like during the McCarthy era. Sometimes I get the feeling I am observing a witch hunt. Myriam Bedard's comments on Wednesday really took the cake, and went way over the top, and now I am concerned for people's reputations, and don't know what to believe. One of the posters here suggested that Bedard may be a Bloc plant. Who knows? All I do know, is that I think this committee is out of control, is making a mockery of the situation, and needs to be shut down. It is time for the circus to leave Ottawa. Canadians have had enough. I believe Chantal sums it up well in the following article. Bédard cameo casts shadow on probe Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. maplesyrup Posted March 26, 2004 Author Report Posted March 26, 2004 You would think that the committee would have closely questioned Ms. Bédard on her allegations. Instead, they were sycophants."I think Canadians who are listening to you feel that for the first time they are getting perhaps an inside look into how this sponsorship program operated," suggested Conservative MP Diane Ablonczy. "You've covered yourself with glory and your country with your athletic exploits," gushed Conservative deputy leader Peter MacKay, "and your presence here today as well shows you to be a hero again to Canadians." The Liberals and the NDP were considerably more cautious. But no one on the committee asked a single tough question or expressed doubts about Ms. Bédard's credibility -- a marked contrast to the incredulity, sarcasm, hostility and contempt that greeted Mr. Gagliano's testimony. Thank heavens that at least Liberal MP Shawn Murphy was willing to take the committee and its chair, Tory MP John Williams, to task yesterday for their spinelessness and opportunism. Partisan frenzy clouds sponsorship probe This sure confirms for me that this committee needs to be leveled to the ground. Martin is exhibiting very strange strategy to try and sort this all out. Chretien would have done things much differently, I presume. Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know.
