This poll is not about when you want an election, but when we should expect to see one. Given that Harper himself has said that a Prime Minister can't expect to call an election everytime he fails in the House, and that it took 2 1/2 hours for the Governor General to grant him his stay of execution; how likely is it that she will dissolve Parliament and send Canadians to the polls if a non-confidence motion is allowed to play out?

Remember that another election right now is more than about the 300 million dollar price tag, but the fact that the government would then have to sit out another six weeks before action is taken on the economy.

Also, the recent election set a record for voter apathy. If we were to go to the polls now I think we'd beat that record.

So again it's not about who'd win an election, or if you think we should have one, but when you think realistically that one will be called.

That depends on what is in the budget. Time is now the Liberal's friend, time to raise funds, time to sell Ignatieff, time to set policy.

300 million is chump change compared to the 30 billion proposal floating out there.

It is very likely she will grant an election, did you not see the massive public outrage?

It's up to the Liberals when they want an election.

But the tide is shifting as Harper's own words and signed coalition intents are coming back to haunt him. Canadians will not want an election right now. A recent poll suggests that 91% of Canadians believe that we are already in a recession.

They need to get back to the table. Provided that Harper brings out a decent budget, he will be able to stay on, which again factors into WHEN an election will take place. A coalition gov't will give all parties a chance to fundraise and profile-raise, so it works for the Liberals either way.

Our Governor General lives in Quebec and both she and her husband are part of the Arts Community as documentary film makers. She went through her own 'Separatist' accusations when she was named GG by Queen Elizabeth II, on the recommendation of Paul Martin.

She's human and would have no love for Mr. Harper and his Quebec slamming. She'll do her job regardless, but 91% of Canadians ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE ECONOMY!

Hasn't the Prime Minister said that the stimulus package will be in the range of $20 - 30B? I guess that must be the proposal your speaking of.

That would be it.

Canadians would rather have an election than transfering power to a coalition without voting for a coalition. That has been established.

Gov. Jean most likely would not grant a coalition gov't involving seperatists given the extreme outrage of Canadians. The Liberals want away from this coalition considering Ignatieff's position on it. The coalition according to Canadians stinks and is not wanted.

Canadians are concerned about the economy, the Liberals better realize that and pass Harper's budget.

The Opposition probably will pass the budget, which again factors into a trimeframe for the next election. As for Canadians wanting another election, I rather doubt it. I don't think any of us have the stomach for more attack ads as Canadians are losing their homes and their jobs, and our soldiers are being killed in a war that has raised new concerns with our involvement.

Harper's deal with 'Separatists', at the throne speech, in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2004 election and grab power as an unelected PM, negates his recent accusations thrown at this Coalition. He'd never attempt any of that crap now, because it will be so easy to counter and make him look like a fool. He's already pulled in his horns because he knows he's on thin ice.

And let's not forget, he also lied about the flags, and knows it.

The biggest problem for him in the coming months is not whether his budget will pass, but how he can function in the House of Commons when he can no longer count on the support of the Opposition for even the slightest change. (The Bloc backed 14 of his bills in the past) You don't launch the kind of attack he did with 'Separatists' and 'Socialists' accusations and expect any respect. The spirit of non-confidence remains whether the motion is passed or not and if too soon after the House reconvenes, it would be completely irresponsible for the GG to call an election when 91% of Canadians are concerned about the economy; something Harper denied last campaign.

I also wonder how he is going to keep his neo-partisan leanings at bay. He knows he has to, but I think his head may explode.
