Vancouverite Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Look at it this way - there's a coaltion of NDP and Liberals, who together are significantly fewer than the Conservatives; the coalition will therefore have to get Bloc support on almost every issue. Last, but certainly not least, Stephane Dion will soon be replaced, so he's an interim PM at best. How long can such a government last? Quote

johhny Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Long enouph for Ignatieff to rise above the squalor in Ottawa and end this crisis. He could honestly label himself "Captain Canada" the keys to 24 Sussex are dangling in front of him, just six months away. Quote
bluegreen Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Please God, not long.... Define long. It minds me of the old saw that a week is a long time in politics ;-) They can craft a legislative agenda that covers the common ground in 6 months or so. The Liberals will then have a new leader. The NDP will have rebuilt a little. They can then decide if they have more to gain by splitting up, or keeping on for another 6 months or so. I think that the Bloc is in trouble no matter what happens. An election now, or an election after Dion is replaced. Contrary to many peoples opinions, they will be in a weak position, as is proper. We'll see you back at the polls sometime between July 2009, and June 2010 is my best guess. But don't forget, a week is a long time, so don't quote me if I come back with a radically different number next week. Quote
Wilber Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) I think that the Bloc is in trouble no matter what happens. How is the Bloc in trouble? They risk nothing and gain everything from this coalition. The Liberals and NDP risk everything. If it all goes wrong Duceppe can just say, we tried to give them an chance but they screwed up. Not our fault, we weren't part of this government, we just tried to give them a chance. Edited December 3, 2008 by Wilber Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
Bryan Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 It won't last more than a couple of weeks before Duceppe double crosses them. No matter what they give him, he'll demand more to keep his vote(s). His demands will make the Rhino party look reasonable in comparison. Quote
Smallc Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 It won't last more than a couple of weeks before Duceppe double crosses them. That is really the most worrying part about the whole thing. Quote
