Canada already awash in stimulus

Falling tax burden frees up more for investment

Jacqueline Thorpe, Financial Post

Published: Monday, December 01, 2008

Mark Blinch/ReutersJim Flaherty, the Finance Minister, has repeatedly stressed, a good chunk of stimulus is still to come.

Step back from the political brinkmanship and hysteria over the economy of the past few days and what we find is a Canadian economy already swimming in stimulus.

Lost amid the political hullabaloo and fixation on the deficit was this salient line from the fiscal update last week: "The tax burden, as measured by total revenues as a share of gross domestic product, is projected to decline from 15.8% in 2007/08 to 15.2% by 2012/13 -- its lowest ratio in 50 years."

So why again do we need a new government Jack, Gil, and Dion?

Because Harper has lost confidence, was acting like a horse's hind end when he said he was going to set a new tone of conciliation, is spending money foolishly, cutting taxes foolishly, is about to go into deficit and was going to call an election in the next six months anyway.

Looks to me that NDP and Liberals want power for the sake of power and Jack has said it all, he doesn't care about democracy he just wants to get his hands on the taxpayers money and have a little power.

Did you even bother to read the Artical?

I tell you what, there hasn't been a constitutional power grab this exciting since Alois Schicklgruber's son maneuvered for the Chancellorship

You said it it amounts to a facist take over of the country.

Nothing like getting into bed with traitors to get power.

No one said it wasn't fair, you being told that he has no moral right.

In other words, no fair.

Dobbins its within the rules of our constitution that makes fair if you want ot talk like a child. What the problem is the morality of it, how do you invite a seperatisit into a govenrment? It is not moral to form this government with the will of the Canadian by their vote.

The Bloc is not part of the government no matter how much you say it is.

As for the not fair comment, I didn't hear you say a thing when the Tories used it against the Liberals.

They are as you would be governing based on their demands as the NDP and liberals don't have votes to out vote the conservatives in the house.

Well, maybe the Tories will have the deceny to vote with with Liberals if they are the government to prevent such a thing. Ever think of that? Think of the county.

Good question.

The opposition claims their uppermost concerns are Canadians' jobs, homes and savings. They say the Conservatives are not acting fast enough on the economy and their measures fall short. They lack confidence in the government. So what is their plan to protect jobs, homes and savings? It is to form a coalition government to replace the Conservatives.

A lot of additional measures proposed by the Conservatives have been released and are in the advanced planning stages. So in effect, the coalition would delay programs urgently needed to stave off the meltdown of the economy. Another eventual delay in unleashing a stimulus plan is that it would take months for this coalition to get its act together. They don't even have a leader for a coalition yet and all those new ministers will have to get up to speed on the various files. This is the timely action they propose? Is this how the coalition will address the urgency of the situation?

The coalition agreement assigns itself a life span of 30 months. It will probably take them that long to work out their differences, let alone take any effective action on the economy. What will the coalition do differently than the Conservatives? We wait with bated breath to find out but chances are it will be costly. But then, there is much speculation about the real motive behind the formation of this coalition. Sadly, the economy will continue to flounder as these political games unfold.

You mean horse's hiney? Hmmmmm, where have I heard that before? :D

Regardless how it's phrased, it's right on the money.
