jdobbin Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 http://www.workpermit.com/news/2008-12-01/...s-announced.htm Jason Kenney, Canadian Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism has confirmed that Canada will maintain its positive stance on immigration by setting a target of 240 000 to 265 000 new permanent residents for 2009.'Whilst countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia are talking about taking fewer immigrants, our planned numbers for 2009 are on a par with last year and are among the highest for this country over the past 15 years,' Minister Kenney said. 'The numbers reflect a continued commitment to an immigration program that balances Canada's economic, humanitarian and family reunification goals.' Of the planned intake, some 60% will be accepted in the economic category. The remainder will be in the family and humanitarian categories. Guess this might be a reason for some angry Tories to support the collapse of the Harper government. Quote

Argus Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Why? What's the alternative? True. There's little to love about the Progressive Conservative government of Stephen Harper. It's about as ©onservative as the Joe Clark administration. But there's no one even remotely competent on the horizon to replace them. It's not like the Liberals, who at the moment mostly represent immigrant ridings, are going to cut back on unnecessary immigration. Sir Bandelot Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) There's little to love about the Progressive Conservative government of Stephen Harper. It's about as ©onservative as the Joe Clark administration. There is no conservative party. Remember these are Neocons... a form of fascism mingled with conservatism and a little of old Alberta pig-farmer logic. The real conservatives have no option. Remember these are Neocons... a form of fascism mingled with conservatism and a little of old Alberta pig-farmer logic. The real conservatives have no option. Any comparison between the present government and fascists is so empty-headed and blindingly ignorant that the author has permanently marked themselves in my mind as unworthy of ever reading again.
