lukin Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 I think that it is 99% ceratain that Obama will win in Novemvber. Let's talk about his medical platform. Obama wnats to provide free medicare, ala Canada, to 300+million Americans + illegal aliens. How will he do this? Tax the working even more. I wonder how Americans will react when they have to pay $38+ for 24 beer? I don't think most Americans have any idea what will happen to them under the Obama government. With 85% of American media pulling for Obama, especially NBC, people who want the truth really need to go digging for it. It amazes me how many people are suckers of the mainstream media. Many humans are nothing more than a huge herd of cattle. Mindless, and believing everything they hear. The CBC in Canada is nothing more than the media arm of the Liberal Party of Canada. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 And I think you're getting ahead of things before they even happen. Even if Obama wins (certainly not a 99% lock), he is going to find that health care is a very hard nut to crack. Hillary and Bill were handed their asses back in 1993 when they tried to take on the providers, insurance companies, Big Pharma, and patients who don't want to experience the universal right to a long waiting list (a la Canada). Obama will have far less fiscal wiggle room because of the financial system bailout, even if he lets Bush's tax cut expire. But don't worry Canada...we will still be open for business...will that be cash or credit card? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Tax the working even more. You can't forget about his promise to increase energy prices to combat climate change. The safe bet would assume that the cost of the bailout and the subsequent slow down in to economy will render all of Obama's spending promises irrelevent. Private health care in the US is a disaster. They pay the most, but don't get anywhere near the best results. Bloated health care costs put the US at a competitive disadvantage. If I were the average US employer, I would look forward to health care costs going down. Not that I am a fan of a lot of Obama's other stuff, but you have to be a pragmatist. Quote

Canada pays less, gets less, and has the absolute worse performing universal access health care system in the developed world. Nobody copies Canada's system, but Canada did copy Cuba and North Korea! If I were the average US employer, I would look forward to health care costs going down. But you are not the average US employer, and health care costs are not going to "go down". Not that I am a fan of a lot of Obama's other stuff, but you have to be a pragmatist. Of course! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
peter_puck Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 And this is bad because? Because people die, babies die and the economy suffers. Canada pays less, gets less, and has the absolute worse performing universal access health care system in the developed world. I think your reading someones talking points. But even if it is the "worst performing universal access health care system in the developed world" it is still better than yours, and you pay a lot more for it. If Canada "gets less", why is your infant mortality rate 30% higher (yours is even higher than Cuba's) ? Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 (edited) Because people die, babies die and the economy suffers. People and babies don't die in Canada? Amazing! I think your reading someones talking points. But even if it is the "worst performing universal access health care system in the developed world" it is still better than yours, and you pay a lot more for it. If Canada "gets less", why is your infant mortality rate 30% higher (yours is even higher than Cuba's) ? Because the USA also has a higher abortion rate! Why are you so choked up over what happens with the US health care system....why not Rwanda or Peru? Canada's system is better for Canadians (except for the ones who flee south or to other nations). The Americans are not losing any sleep worrying about your system, even if it sucks. So what's the big deal? Edited September 28, 2008 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
peter_puck Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 People and babies don't die in Canada? Amazing! Not at the same rate. Why are you so choked up over what happens with the US health care system....why not Rwanda or Peru? I was responding to a point about the economic disadvantages of Obama. I pointed that universal health care would most likely make the US economy better. Canada's system is better for Canadians (except for the ones who flee south or to other nations). It also works better for Americans who flee north to Canada. Ontario had to reissue most health cards primarily because of Americans borrowing them. There are probably people over here who have had their tonsils removed 3 times according to government records. The Americans are not losing any sleep worrying about your system, even if it sucks. Because they are already awake worrying about their own. What if I loose my job..... What if my insurance company won't pay for the operation..... Last time I thought about health care was when Gulianni made his stuipid comment. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Not at the same rate. So they do die, huh? Oh the humanity! (sobbing) I was responding to a point about the economic disadvantages of Obama. I pointed that universal health care would most likely make the US economy better. The US economy is always better, except during a recession. Doesn't matter whether it's health care or widescreen TV's. Health care is about 15% of GDP, and that means boob jobs to erection pills. It also works better for Americans who flee north to Canada. Ontario had to reissue most health cards primarily because of Americans borrowing them. There are probably people over here who have had their tonsils removed 3 times according to government records. Great....why shouldn't everybody jump onboard "free" healthcare in Canada? The doctors and nurses weren't so impressed. Because they are already awake worrying about their own. What if I loose my job..... What if my insurance company won't pay for the operation..... Last time I thought about health care was when Gulianni made his stuipid comment. Right...so why the hell do you care what we do, and how we do it? Maybe there wouldn't be anymore evil " American style" health care to point at for political gain in Canada? It's like some Canadians need to be reassured that their system is at least better than the Americans, even if it sucks compared to countries like France. It's really bizarre...... I was not under the impression Obama is vying to create a universal healthcare system as part of his platform. You do mean universal health care, correct? Quote
