jdobbin Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories Stephen Harper's controversial director of communications, Sandra Buckler, is stepping down from her post. She had been in the position since February 2006, when she replaced William Stairs, shortly after the Conservatives won the federal election. In an email, Buckler did not say why she resigned but that "now is the time for me to exit stage right from the Prime Minister's Office." When is that deadline for lobbying? Quote
capricorn Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) Sandra Buckler has had health problems. Who knows whether her decision to bail is related to this or not. scribblet Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 We don`t know if that is entirely true, nobody is 100% popular at anytime. However she is definitely leaving because of severe health problems, so maybe you need to give this one a rest. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
jdobbin Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) We don`t know if that is entirely true, nobody is 100% popular at anytime. However she is definitely leaving because of severe health problems, so maybe you need to give this one a rest. That is not what the article says either. I don't see "definitely" anywhere and yet some here seem to have special knowledge that this is reason. I guess it downplays the fact that Tory MPs wanted her out and then party supporters can say "don't look behind the curtain, nothing to see here." For her health problems, I am truly sorry. However, it doesn't paper over how Tory party members were starting to chafe under PMO controls when they couldn't even speak to local reporters on issues without having everything vetted by Buckler's office. Kind of sleazy even for a partisan hack like yourself to try and slime some political points on someone with cancer.. Another factor in her decision-making, perhaps, is that she recently underwent surgery for thyroid cancer. The Conservative source said that Ms. Buckler's health may have been a big factor as she is still recovering. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
jdobbin Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 Give her a year or so and she'll jump on the lobby bandwagon. It's funny though how Tory spin doctors are trying to avoid any discussion about how Tory MPs wanted her out. All of this talk on her cancer is couched with terms like "perhaps" and "possibly" she left for health reasons. It usually comes from people who won't go on the record and who won't state flatly that this is the reason. Then we get Tory apologists here to say stop picking on someone with cancer as if no discussion at all can place on the legacy of the Communications director and how many in the Tory party wanted her removed. As I said, I feel sorry for her condition but nameless Tory sources who say this is the reason she left and use words like "perhaps" and "possibly" about the reasons for leaving are papering over other motivations for the move. Talk about sleazy and partisan. Quote
M.Dancer Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 This probably may be perhaps the sleaziest and possibly the slimiest excuse for a partisan slime thread ever. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

Talk about sleazy and partisan. You know what dobbin? This one is bad ju ju. Me? I say drop it. She has a bad illness, and while there may be reasons other than that for her stepping aside, I dont care. I was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago, and frankly I did a lot of things after that fact that make no sense to me now. (one of those being not caring about anything) Point is, she has a mind f**k front and centre everyday she wakes up and she thinks about it 300 times a day or more. If she screwed the job bad or was woefully incompetent prior , I still give her wide clearance since her head is not in politics but concerned for her and her family. Do yourself a favour and drop this one. Lots more will come along for all of us to engage in. But not this one. Quote

You're correct. Hopefully, she has a full recovery. And hope you yourself had a full recovery. Let's see what her replacement is like. It then become more a reflection of what the PM wants if the same type of communications policy remains. Edited June 27, 2008 by jdobbin Quote

jdobbin Posted June 28, 2008 Author Report Posted June 28, 2008 Name them. With quotes. You'll have to ask Craig Oliver. CTV's Chief Political Correspondent Craig Oliver said while PMO's strict communication plan worked in the early going, both the media and Tory MPs grew frustrated over time."At one point a senior MP told me, 'There are at least 75 of us who asked to move her on,'" Oliver said. As I said, there are a lot of Tories who won't go on the record about anything in regard to the PMO. You think Oliver is lying or do you think the senior MP is lying? Quote
