Topaz Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) Someone told me today, that Harper's gov't have put up a barbed wire up in Owen Sound, Ontario on city's harbour wall. The wall is 60 metres long and 2 meters high with barbed wire on top. The city has written a letter to Harper and asked to take it down the people all hated it and its dangerous. When was the last time a terrorist came through Owen Sound, Ontario??? I wonder the Conservative that was elected there, will return after an election. EDIT: The title of this thread has been changed to Marine Transportation Security Clearance Program, marine security regulations It was originally: Terrorists -- What Harper has done to keep them out Edited January 9, 2008 by Charles Anthony removed inflamatory and inaccurate title Quote

Would that someone's name be General Electric? An official with the government agency confirmed yesterday that the structure was built to comply with marine transportation security regulations.Since late 2001, Transport Canada has worked to implement stronger security measures at the country's ports. In the past six years, more than $930-million has been spent on marine security enhancements, according to Transport Canada. In 2004, the agency created a new position: marine security director. Late last year, Transport Canada began implementing the Marine Transportation Security Clearance Program, a law originally put forward by the Liberal government, which allows the government to remove marine employees on the basis of "reasonable grounds to suspect" they are a threat to port security. Transport Canada is also expected to implement security enhancements for Canada's domestic ferries as part of the marine transportation security regulations, the same set of regulations responsible for the Owen Sound fence. Look at these dates... 2001...A liberal government inititive. 2004...A liberal Governement inititive. A link, yes a real working link.... The (Liberal) mandate to secure ports is a bad thing? The folks at TC should use their grey matter to apply the measures in a smart way. This has nothing to do with the CPC however, unless they are sticking their noses in to TC as well. Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche
