Canuck E Stan Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Mulroney didn't receive Airbus kickback He said that allegations of Mulroney's involvement in securing an Air Canada contract for the purchase of planes from the European company were laughable. Remind me again, what was this ethics committee trying to achieve? Greenspan was right, this whole political charade is Cirque de Soleil, and thanks to the NDP and Liberals a total waste of taxpayer time and money. But hey, the opposition will pay for it in the next election. Michael Bluth Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Remind me again, what was this ethics committee trying to achieve? Greenspan was right, this whole political charade is Cirque de Soleil, and thanks to the NDP and Liberals a total waste of taxpayer time and money. Seems like things are turning up roses for Harper. On the CTV News tonight it was mentioned that even Liberals are grumbling that an inquiry might not be worth the taxpayer money. Worst case, an inquiry still happens with an extremely limited set of terms of reference. Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice
capricorn Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 But hey, the opposition will pay for it in the next election. Damage control by the Liberals was evident today in Question Period. The questions regarding Schreiber were fewer and surrounded process, i.e. accountability and lobbyists, as opposed to accusations leveled at specific Conservative members. Back peddling is the order of the day. The Conservatives will have a hay day with this in the next federal election campaign. In the end, Schreiber got his way and tonight he is snug as a bug in bed at home. That's what this was all about from the beginning. The politicians got snookered, each and every onel of them. I think if anything this means we don't see an election until the fixed election date. By then Schreiber will be long forgotten. The Liberals still can't crack 30% in the polls. They are polling as poorly as they did in 1984 when they went down to historic defeat. Yes, the ethics committee was sucked in by Schreiber. At least Adscam had a number of witness, not just one very shaky one. Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice

Michael Bluth Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Yeah, someone in the Liberal party should take responsibility for this waste of time and money and step down. Far too much partisanship with this one. No need to rub the Liberal's collective noses in this one. Let Schreiber slink off into his corner and be done with it. No more witch hunts. Let's just move on. Quote No one has ever defeated the Liberals with a divided conservative family. - Hon. Jim Prentice

I don't really expect someone to step down, however, would like to see an apology Quote

capricorn Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Is this an attempt to prevent some evidence from being released by the Ethics Committee? "It may take a while before hundreds of documents tabled by Karlheinz Schreiber before a Commons committee can be released to the public. The head of the ethics committee probing Schreiber's financial dealings with the former Tory prime minister Brian Mulroney says privacy concerns may delay or prevent release of some documents. ---- Paul Szabo says the committee needs authorization from the writers of the letters before they can be released." http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2007/10...4621426-cp.html If the writer of the letters objects to their release is that case closed and the evidence withheld? If this is so what's to prevent anyone who wrote a letter, for example Mulroney, to refuse its release. If I recall, protection of private information does not apply in a public inquiry and all documents are fair game. Why would this not apply with the Ethics Committee? Topaz Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 I think until we have heard from all parties and we'll know for sure who's guilty and who's innocence and this will clear up things for sure. If Mulroney wants to sue someone, he'll have to sue Harper or the government of Canada. Quote
