M.Dancer Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Two of the most enduring characters in the history of Canadian children's programming, Rusty the Rooster and Jerome the Giraffe, are about to quit the building. The children of actor and Friendly Giant creator Bob Homme, angered by the CBC's recent treatment of the loveable puppets, are removing them from a museum at the public broadcaster, their home since the iconic program debuted in Canada in 1958. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...ertainment/home In the US, iconic props like Archie Bunker's Chair sit in the Smithsonian.....I assume they are given more respect that the puppet carachters of a beloved childrens show seen by millions of kids. Myself I used to wait for the end as the siloettes of the cow jumps over the moon ( paid hommage to by "Loonette in the Radicla Sheeps production of The Big Coomfy Couch..."And the Clown Jumps over the Moon" I realize this isn't a huge issue, but we as a nation should take greater pride in our past, even when that past is a dealy loved children's show and the CBC should be ashamed. guyser Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 That is a shame. The CBC seems to have goofed on the permission part,. Hopefully they are working on getting them back on display in the future. Have the laws changed? That would have been a CBC production, and I would think that is the CBC's property much like Archies chair is owned by nbc/abc/cbs Between The Friendly Giant and Uncle Bobbi (who if IRC had a little "incident") in the morning, and flintstones at lunch...I would have a great day. luvacuppajoe Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 From friends, Ms. Homme had heard about her dad's puppets appearing in the mock clip, where a narrator described them as sitting around, drinking, smoking and having sex. Oh, that's just wrong. I bet you they've been influenced by that nasty Ed the Sock Puppet. Quote
