Visionseeker Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 I wonder if that is a necessity. It appears more and more likely that we will see vote splitting on the left between the Greens, NDP and the remnants of the Liberals. Here are five GTA ridings that are a good chance for the CPC to pick up with some vote splitting. Etobicoke-Lakeshore (wouldn't Bob Rae love it if Ignatieff lost his seat) Don Valley West Mississauga Erindale Mississauga South Oakville. Add those five seats to another five or so in the rest of Ontario, another 15 more in Quebec, plus five more in the West. Boom majority. I would suggest that you revise your expectations of Conservative gains in Ontario to that which they will lose unless the government pulls an about face on Ontario's Rep by Pop seats allocation. I don't think you appreciate how much this issue has hit a nerve in the province. Telling Ontario that it is right that they alone stand under-represented and that their vote counts for 4/5 of other Canadians is no way to make friends in the province. I'm told Van Loan's office phones have taken a beating from angry 905 belt callers. If true, it would hardly come as a surprise since Jeffery Simpson's column in the G&M all but invited his readers to do so. Quote

Visionseeker Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 Who is saying that? Evidence? Proof? LOL! Perhaps you might acquaint yourself with the issue. One formula is applied to BC and Alberta while a discounted rate is applied to Ontario. Simpson's column really gets to the heart of the matter. You should read it. Quote

We all have a discounted formula compared to say, PEI. BC is hugely underrepresented and Alberta is pretty bad too. Worse than Ontario. They need to be fixed first. Especially BC. The case for correcting BC and Alberta, but deliberately leaving Ontario diminished by almost 10% in comparison, is intellectually unsupportable. The "fix first" argument is vacuous in Ontario. If you're going to fix it, do it right and fair for all three. Quote

Riverwind Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 (edited) We all have a discounted formula compared to say, PEI. BC is hugely underrepresented and Alberta is pretty bad too. Worse than Ontario. They need to be fixed first. This is not correct. Ontario short by about 5%. BC and Alberta are only short by about 1.5%. Ontario has a legimate gripe but the stupid rules that prevent the number of seats from decreasing mean that any extra seats for Ontario must be at the expense of BC and Alberta. Oleg Bach Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 Your math is also intellectually unsupportable. "Intellectually unsupportable" - think they just called you stupid as far as statistical bean counting...a counter that can not be supported by his intellect...never thought of math as being an intellectual persuit...more of a mental masterbation - escpecally if you enjoy numbers a little to much - stats and the such mean nothing. They are like the wind - along with polls - who ever runs or owns the polls can make little adjustments when needed - people go along with polls because they are afraid of being cut from the herd...poor little sheeple. Shakeyhands Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 I see.... so whats different this time around? Does Harper represent all of Canada? More specifically, does Harper represent Ontario or for that matter Eastern Canada? Just curious... Guess he doesn't then... thanks for clarifying Bluth.
