jawapunk Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 I was reading my Wired magazine on the can and came across an interesting bit of information. The Federal Accountability and Transparency Act. I requires the Feds to build a search engine for citizens to trace public spending. It has alreaddy been passed but only five candidates have made it a campaign pledge to get the ball rolling and have it up in a timely manner. I think this is an excellent idea, really keeps government in check for frivolous spending. I am wondering if Canada has a counterpart as it would be an excellent way to avoid sponsorship scandals and monitor our own federal spending. What do Americans and Canadians think of it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Fundi...ncy_Act_of_2006 Quote Leg room, there is none.
bush_cheney2004 Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 (edited) Ummmmm...I think it is frivolous spending. Canada shouldn't do it....too American. Edited November 22, 2007 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Higgly Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 It must be a great idea. Bush_Cheney2004 is against it! I'm all for government accountability and transparency. This sounds like it might lead to something, but I wouldn't fire the Auditor General just yet. Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).
capricorn Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 Enabling every Tom Dick and Harry instant access to this data will have an outcome purely Canadian. A watershed of public inquiries. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
