Higgly Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Back to the topic at hand. The US dollar has now hit $1.08. Albertans who like to refer to the rest of the country as parasites will no doubt want to ponder the cause of this extraordinary rise against not only the US dollar, but other currencies as well, and the effect that has had on the economic picture in other parts of the country. At least the resulting job losses provide bodies for the Alberta labour shortage. Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).

Higgly Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 The dollar, in Canada isn't a policy. What does it matter if we are in or out? Ah, so you are like the Quebec separatists. You want to separate but use the Canadian dollar as your currency? Quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us!". Pogo (Walt Kelly).
White Doors Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) The few myopic posters here aside, Alberta isn't seperating simply because - they do not want to. I lived there for 11 years. Some of the most proud Canadians I have ever met. More people on mapleleafweb have to do some more travelling acoss this great country of ours and talk to people. Turn the computer off and get information first hand for once. Our Provinces are names well when it comes to the 'provincial' thinking deisplayed here sometimes. geoffrey Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Ah, so you are like the Quebec separatists. You want to separate but use the Canadian dollar as your currency? I can use whatever currency I want in my daily transactions. I've done more business in American currency over the last couple of weeks than Canadian. Do you think Canadians have a monopoly on the use of Canadian money? Nah. Look at Mexico. There is nothing you could do to prevent us from using the dollar and no reason for you to. I'm sure it's due in part to how many jobs have been created in Ontario and Kwebek in the last months. And the Maritimes. And all the oil and gas being produced in Manitoba. Ya, that must be the reason. Or maybe it's because world financials like Harper? Wouldn't THAT just burn your ass. I'm quite positive that the rise of the Canadian dollar has nothing to do with Alberta. Or the fact that the US dollar keeps nose diving. Nah, it's probably just the parasites. M.Dancer Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 I'm quite positive that the rise of the Canadian dollar has nothing to do with Alberta. Umm....no. The Loon is intrinsically tied to the price of oil The latest surge was credited to an equally impressive run-up in the price of crude oil, up to above $96 US a barrel, and gold prices that surged by over $14 US an ounce, as well as solid returns for other commodities, particularly wheat. http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2007/11/06/cdn-dollar.html Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
