maldon_road Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Bill C-465, PMB introduced by Michel Guimond, Bloc MP from Montmorency. Harper had the GG cover it in the throne speech but the Bloc jumped the gun. The Libs have said they expect to support it, the NDP is dithering. Don't see a downside to supporting this, mind you there are a lot of Muslims in Dion's riding. An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act (identity of electors) Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows: 1. (1) Subsection 143(1) of the Canada Elections Act is replaced by the following: Elector to declare name with face uncovered 143. (1) Each elector, on arriving at the polling station, shall, with his or her face uncovered, give his or her name and address to the deputy returning officer and the poll clerk, and, on request, to a candidate or his or her representative. http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/P...e=1&File=24 Quote If the men do not die well it will be a black matter for the king that led them to it.

maldon_road Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 Why? I don't know but that is in the current law. The new portion is that which is underlined. Quote If the men do not die well it will be a black matter for the king that led them to it.

Michael Bluth Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I don't know but that is in the current law. The new portion is that which is underlined. It allows for a scrutineer to request the ID provided if the Elections Canada official doesn't. A pretty standard piece of legislation that is aimed at ensuring the openness and fairness of the process. If the Elections Canada official at a given polling station feels that the law is unjust and refuses to enforce it, this section of the act allows for a second party to ensure that the law is followed. Prevents EC officials from potentially being given the ability to influence an election by selectively enforcing the law.
