I am just thinking here, that maybe the members here would like to make up what we would see as a proper Election platform. With all the things that we all could agree are the right way to go. We would have to after enough things are put forward, maybe then vote to see just would be the majority on each. But in the end it would be interesting to see just how ours would develope as opposed to what the governments would be like. So take the same issues that we see today and try to make each issue a seperate post if possible, so later voting on the issues would be easier. Anyone want to take a stab at this?

Harper's in the process of normalizing Canada to the status of a real country from the mess the Liberals left it in.

I think revitalizing the country is a top priority and Canadians think that is important judging from the polls.

But don't you dislike the continuing strong immigration under Harper? Do you think that it has only increased because of his minority status or do you think that it is because he believes in more immigration?

I would like to see a national panel on immigration which is designed to examine Canada's true needs with regard to demographics and the economy, as well as the problems our present immigration presents us, and quickly come up with a new immigration policy. The composition of the panel should be centre right, and come up with hard numbers for what Canada actually needs and what type of immigrants are working best for US and our economy.

I would like a national panel of economists and health care experts (not people blindly commited to our current system) to examine health care in Europe with an eye to transplanting the best of their systems here, particularly that of the French and Germans. It might be an idea to federalize health care and take it away from the provinces. I think one national health care system would do better than the hodgepodge of systems we now have. I would also like user fees for heavy use by those not diagnosed with any particular ailment

I really don't know what the main reason is for heavy, mainly foreign third world immigration.

Canadian birth rate for 2002 was 328,802 births which represents a decrease of -1.5% or a decrease of 4,942 births.

This certainly does not justify bringing in close to 400,000 total immigrants to Canada per year, a country that earns its keep by the export of natural resources and does not require a heavy manufacturing population or an unskilled labour population.

I've seen no indication he is about to change that policy. I can't find any recent speeches or anything else on Conservative website to indicate he will be curbing immigration.

Naturally, I feel our lagest issue is Immigration.

We need to align ourself with a US style of system that does not allow people to enter unless they have a job lined up.

Brampton grew by 33%.

Calgary by 12%.

People are not moving where there are jobs. The easy way to resolve this is to allow work permits only.

It would basically be an immigation overhaul that would no longer allow sponsoship or marriages into Canada. Also absolutely NO foreign students. Our schools are for us, not them.

I thnk manay immigarnts would support this. the ones who dont, are the ones who are not benefitting Canada. And they can leave if they don't like it.

And we would abolish our Refugee policy completely and only accept refugees from places in crisis like Kosavo when there is a VISIBLE refugee crisis. (to meet our nato agreements)

I know, i know, there wouldn't be anymore Pakistani's, Sikhs, and Chinese coming but oh well.

And I know, I know, youg people like Jennie would be able to go to shcool and get a good job and buy a house and have children rather than sit in wallow self hatred.

But yeah I guess those will have to be the concequences we'll suffer through.

I agree.

It's well known in the immigrant communities that he's anti-immigrant. They paint Harper as being a racist. Harper is diong his best to win their vote because he's going to have to if he wants a majority. Either that or he's going to have ot do better in Quebec.

im not worried about Canadian ridings. They will never elect an internationalist with 2 passports and from Quebec. They simply wont do it.

It's the immigrant ridings that are the issue here.

Harper has to show that they can trust him. He has to promise immigrants money. Like litterally buy them off. Like 'settlement cheques' or somethign along thoose lines.

Immigrants will play with the powerbroker of the day... eventually because it helps their powerbase. The question is, when will their tide turn and when will they jump on board?

It will be Chinese first, but everyone else, who knows. The chinese ridings are not enough. It's the mixed immigrant minority ridings that are the issue. Ontario and BC has a lot of them.

When you are sitting in your $300,000 semi detatched brick home collecting gov't cheques every month, your first goal is to bring your family over and the party you vote for will make this happen.

Harper needs to gain their trust and become one of them. He's been doing this, but he needs to go even further and litterally send them $500 'minority help' cheques.

People come to Canada to take advantage of an easy life filled with freebies. Not to take part in a country that has no jobs for them.

Why else do you think Xul knows all about our welfare and EI system. Hell, he even know the abreviation.

Harper needs to call an election now and hope Quebec gives him a majority.

If I were him, i would not bring up immigration or Lib wackos and the CBC will black list him which could cost him at the polls.

If immigrants do not vote CPC this time around, each and every seat will count. Quebec will count. It will be extremely close.

Laton - tarnished and stained.

Dion - a matter of time before he's gone.

Ducept - getting tired in quebec due to ducepts pro immigration stance.

There is only 1 winner this time around. Immigrant vote or not.

This is it guys. This is probably going to be the last election until the balance of immigrant ridings are so great that there is no turning back and a majority is no longer possible.

Ottawa - now fully immigarnt ridings (except Orleans).

Calgary, AB - soon will be immigarnt ridings popping up everywhere.

Rural parts of Ontario, Quebec, and BC - will further become immigrant ridings like Hamilton, Kitchener, Waterloo, etc..

They all vote Liberal so it won't matter anymore what Canadians think.

This is the last shot. This will be the last ever that Canadians STILL hold political power to give a certain gov't a majority.

We've lost political power.. well.. not yet. But we will in less than 10 years if we don't put Harper in office now and let him eliminate our immigration policy.

A policy of tax cuts would be sweet.

I would also say that tax cuts would be a good thing for a paltform, but what would you consider tax cuts to be. How would we determine this? Would we use a calculation that says 60% of all surpluses are to go to tax cuts, or are we just going to wing it as time and events allow. We all want tax cuts, that is a given, but it is the mechanisms that need set out.

A debt reduction formula would also make up a good point in any poitical platform, and once again I am hoping for some input from the more accounting types to say just how workable this would be and is there a forumla that would be viable?

This is all well and good but just what measures would you put in place to keep our population growing? Do we pay tax free moneys to people who have more then three children, or is there some other way. in other words what you say is a complaint, but what is the platform that would address that complaint.

I suspect they are afraid of being accused of being bigoted for curtailing what is largely non white immigration. I think the Libs and NDP are eagerly watching everything this government does for the slightest sign of anything they can twist into bigotry, racism or intolerance so they can kick up a huge national fuss - with the aid of their allies in the media. So I don't think the Tories are going to make any quick changes to immigration which cannot be very obviously defended on logical grounds. What changes they make will be incremental.

Plus, of course, there are those in the party eager to play to ethnic groups, not as many as there are in the Liberals, but they're there.

The demographics say we do not need more than a fraction of the immigrants we now get. And economics says we should redirect our energies into luring in the most successful immigrants, not those who are going to spend their lives scratching out a living as taxi drivers, janitors and security guards - not to mention pimps, drug dealers and gang bangers.

I see no changes being suggested even in an incremental way. Perhaps Harper likes immigration just the way it is.
