From Jane Taber's column in today's Globe. Link

The Liberal national campaign co-chairs - Nancy Girard, Mark Marissen and Senator David Smith. Stéphane Dion and the national campaign team sent a note congratulating Ontario Liberal Party campaign chairman Greg Sorbara for his win this week but forgot to mention the candidate - Premier Dalton McGuinty. The congratulatory letter is making the rounds among angry Ontario Liberals,

With the Liberals having lost their edge in Ontario federally, and a Federal election imminent, perhaps angering the party faithful isn't the smartest move.

Could this lead to the tired volunteers deciding to sit out the election, thus handing more seats to the Conservatives and the NDP?

That doesn't seem out of line with me, perhaps a little surprising. I'm sure personal congratulatory msg's were sent to McGuinty as well, but the Federal Party ought to congratulate the Provincial arm's campaign chair, as they are the ones responsible for the policy/results.

Oh, and as a party member, I'm not upset in the slightest bit.

By reading Taber's article it wasn't an issue whether or not McGuinty received a letter. It's that McGuinty wasn't mentioned in the letter sent to Sobara.

Will you volunteer your time in the upcoming Federal Election? It appears that the Dion braintrust has angered the true activists they need to have a chance of holding the Conservatives to another minority.

Most likely not, I have neither the time nor the tempermant to do so.

Now the Chretien book could stir things up a little...

From the latest poll results Ontario is very much in play as to whether the Conservatives or Liberals will win the most seats. Especially with such a huge concentration of Liberal votes in Toronto.

Tired, disgruntled Liberal volunteers who see the snub from the Dion crew as a final straw that leads them to sit out the coming Federal election. Those missing volunteers could help Harper win a majority.
