Anybody hear anything about voting irregularities in their part of the province? I heard that there are a number of Burlington residents that have to vote outside of their riding in Milton.

Well there's an issue with ID of course.

Basically anythign that has your address printed on it and you can vote.

You don't have to be a citizen to vote.

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. Actually, that's not correct. If you did not receive a voter card, you need to show that you are both a citizen(passport or citizenship card) and a resident of that riding (new health card, driver's license, a recent bill).

I found out yesterday that my friend voted in Georgetown. He is a landed immigrant from Kiwiland. He first reg'd back in 88 when he was on a ministers permit. He was told by an NDP campaigner that he was allowed to vote and so he does and has voted in every election.

But he voted Green so it doesn't really matter.....

I can tell you that if you are right, they sure were not doing that. One I can confirm was sent to three diff polling stations and no yellow card as he did not get one, showed his DL and voted.

There were no 'voting irregularities' there were problems with the voters list and a computer addressing glitch, which sent people to the wrong ridings. All they had to do was go into their returning office and get it fixed, and get a new certificate to vote.

I didn't receive a voter card as I recently moved, all I had to show was my health card and my drivers license, both you get only if you are a citizen, I believe.

No, you can get a health card and driver's license if you are a landed immigrant/permanent resident. If what the posters were saying above is correct, then the poll clerks were either not properly trained or were not following directions. This is somewhat disturbing, especially for ridings with close races...

You only need a peice of paper with your address printed and an ID with a signature.

You do *NOT* have to prove that you are a Canadian citizen.

It's designed like this so refugees and other newcomers can vote Liberal and it's worked very well in all modern elections.

You have to be on the voter list and you have to prove that you are the person on the voter list. That is what the ID is for.

Can you prove that people who are not citizens have been able to vote?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Miked is right about the requirements, photo ID was not required, and workers cannot ask for proof of citizenship. ( bah to that one)

I can't 'prove' it, but there's no doubt they can if they choose to.

Actually, that's not correct. The person that was interviewed for the news report was told that the error could not be changed and she and her neighbours would have to drive to Milton.
