  1. BHS, after re-reading I guess I shouldn't have jumped in. And yes, it is a different argument than the Karl Rove thing. Sorry for hijacking.
  2. Yeah, but I believe he probably saved 1,000,000 refugees from ethnic cleansing in the process. From http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_...5/ai_101861609: "In Kosovo...the Clinton administration worked through NATO, keeping its shaky coalition together in the Western alliance's first war. Clinton's war brought Europe and America closer together and invested NATO and trans-Atlantic relations with a renewed sense of purpose. That unity of purpose proved invaluable in post-war Kosovo, where U.S. and European troops secured the peace and U.N. administrators sponsored a difficult, but so far reasonably successful, transition to democracy." Seems to me it was worth it.
  3. I don't think these little "polls'" serve any good, other than to reinforce one's bias. I regard myself as a Canadian first and a member of a Province second. I have NO bias toward any other Province and care not to speculate about perceived animosity (bias) against another Province.
  4. Well, dubya did declare a war on terror. From his state of the union, 2002: "Our war on terror is well begun, but it is only begun" http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/20...0020129-11.html
  5. I agree 100%. And that would hold true for any perceived corruption from a Conversative or other politican as well. No matter how much you dislike it, we are innocent until proven guilty. That is our system.
  6. I was referring to Paul's credibility re the issue of Jesus' support of gay marriage. To my knowledge he never knew Jesus and was going by what other people had said of the Saviour.
  7. This kind of presents the problem I alluded to. What in the Bible do you take literally and which parts do you reject? I'm glad not all Christian churches share your opinion.
  8. I think that's rather rude Hawk. I'm just offering an opinion much like the rest of the folks on the forum.
  9. Just a clarification, in Mark 12, when asked which commandment was the greatest Jesus said: 29"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[c]There is no commandment greater than these." Doesn't say too much about following Moses' law. But this is point. Black Dog, you're absolutely right. Christians like to cherry pick and seem to dislike it when folks who disagree with them do the same thing. I'm not against Christians. But I cringe when some of them tell me I have to either accept everything in the Bible as literal or accept none of it.
  10. Kimmy, I think your assertions are valid re why Christians may oppose same sex marriage. On the other hand, though, Jesus never did say specificially his views on homosexuality. We are led to infer, and that can be dangerous. For an example of that I need only point out how many interpretations of the Bible are out there floating around. I think if this topic was as important and moral back in Jesus' time as it is today, he probaby would have spoken directly on the issue. I don't hold Paul's views with much credibility as he was formerly a persecutor of Christians and probably had many killed. His conversion doesn't erase his previous actions IMO. In fact, did Paul ever meet Jesus other than the famous light flash on the way to Damascus? As most Chistians take the OT as Jewish law applicable to that faith, it would seem to void the whole debate.
  11. Talk about speculation. Every medical procedure in every Province is assessed individually. I got immediate attention when it was thought I had a brain tumour. It turned out to be optic neuritis. But I had seen 3 specialists in 3 days and had a cat scan to boot. I still believe the urgency of the situation determines the time factor for treatment. I also agree with THELIBERAL re using health issues for political purposes. It is distasteful IMO.
  12. If you could come down from your union high horse for a minute, consider this: first of all don't assume anything. You don't know my background. Second, you seem to want to have it both ways. If we have the best education, why are kids dropping out like flys. Are you advocating education up to Grade 9 and then hit the trades? Is this the strong quality of education of which you speak? Everyone in my family had blue collar jobs, and then went on to achieve University degrees, where they found their current careers. Not all of us are cut out to be trades people. I do not denigrate blue collar jobs, and have had many, but I find your insinuation that I somehow managed to insult all of Alberta as juvenile.
  13. I just want to know - why the hell is my name on this list!!!
  14. I agree Chungwawema. Of all days we should perhaps set aside our personal partisan rhetoric and celebrate this wonderful country. I would not live anywhere else.
  15. Well, I live in Alberta and have since I was born. In terms of education system, gotta wonder why 1/3 of kids don't graduate. And have you driven around lately and looked at the physical shape of some of our schools? Yeah, Ralphy got us debt free, but at what price.
  16. If Klein has his way, who will marry the atheists?
  17. Now that's one of the most intelligent things I've read on this forum.
  18. These are the words of the deputy PM of the time, but Paul Martin voted for it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he was in the cabinet at the time I guess he'd have no choice. I assume it's that way in the Conservative Party as well. I think what's more important is where he stands today. In his words from a CBC townhall meeting: "Three of the highest courts in the land have said that discrimination on the grounds of sex in terms of the definition of marriage is against the Charter of Rights. It is absolutely a question of human rights and under those circumstances there is no way that anybody should be allowed to discriminate or prevent same-sex marriage." 19. I'm curious to know if these are Paul Martin's words. Jerry, could you provide the source for this?
  20. They probably never polled those folks who are bankrupt from medical bills. They may not be dying in the streets, but they're paying dearly for medical care. Not everyone has insurance down there, and the many that do still pay plenty over and above what their insurance covers for basic medical care. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not true, not true and not true. You lefties need to quit reciting Liberal attack campaigns and stick to the facts. I spend a lot of time in the US and love to engage taxi drivers about the "evils" of their system. Many of these fellows have no health insurance and simply go to the county hospital for treatment and have nad no problem with that. Insurance is a matter of choice in the US and many choose not to buy it. Secondly, most people in the US don't even PAY there own insurance premiums; their employers do. But I am no longer going to debate this because I am not in favor of the US system. My main point is that Canada's needs some serious improvement. As a country the costs of medicare are quickly rising as the population ages. That combined with a much smaller tax base as the boomers retire and we are in for a serious crisis. We basically have two choices: increase the tax rate to pay for this upcoming bubble (no thanks) or explore innovative ways to provide health care into the future ;; like private ones. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wasn't lying in my original post and I object to your insinuation. I have family down there and they pay dearly for medical costs OVER AND ABOVE THEIR INSURANCE. Do you honestly think that there isn't anyone who has gone bankrupt over medical costs? Believe what you want to I guess.
