  1. Bush Weighs Offers To Iran U.S. Might Join Effort to Halt Nuclear Program Washington Post February 28, 2005; Page A01 The Bush administration is close to a decision to join Europe in offering incentives to Iran -- possibly including eventual membership in the World Trade Organization -- in exchange for Tehran's formal agreement to surrender any plans to develop a nuclear weapon, according to senior U.S. officials. The day after returning from Europe, President Bush met Friday afternoon with the principal members of his foreign policy team to discuss requests made by German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac in particular. More discussions are expected this week, but the White House wants to move quickly to finalize a list of incentives to offer Tehran as part of European talks with Iran, officials said. rest of article Wow, bush is boning up to the Europeans! Or is it Bush chewing the bone Putin threw him. The headline should read: BUSH MAKES THE BEST OF BEING THWARTED AND IGNORED!
  2. Yes...before I got some real exposure to him. No there's no doubt in my mind that he's hopelessly stupid.
  3. Why do we continue to hear so much about the 3000 people who died on 9/11? It's been used by those wanting to encourage war or the re-election of Bush. Maybe that's part of it. And of course the "liberal" media which has been so accepting and complicit in Bushs actions. But why should we care? Consider something else in the news these days due to Hollywood....Rwanda. Over 800,000 dead.....one person every 10 seconds for 100 days. And many of those raped and tortured before death. That is akin to the Holocost in terms of significance. Is it because those were black people....is that why we hear nothing about that yet we hear so much about this relatively measly number of deaths on 9/11?
  4. Sure. We can tell by the shock and angry reaction from the repugs down South. Yeah, he meant for that to happen. Uh-huh! Which is why he kept asking for support in public AND private. He even badgered our conservative opposition leader in private to be more vocal on it. Oh, another amazing piece of deduction! Try to stow the rightwing partisan anti-Canada attitude and try dealing with facts. We stayed out because it's a bad idea. You love to accuse others of being "afraid" or "cowardly". What a pathetic form of argument that is. When someone doesn't join you or disagrees with you, they are innevitably "afraid"? Ever stop to wonder if maybe what you want to do isn't smart? It's possible, wouldn't you agree?
  5. Yes...there are many groups that are targetting the US and their efforts. Is it media, or is it US propaganda? If it's the latter......if the US in any way is influencing editorial control....then your characterization is wrong and the argument can be made that they should get out of it. Let the Iraqis be free to decide what's news and how to interpret it. They're not stupid and this overt attempt to garner public opinion will only breed cynicism.
  6. When you say "here", do you mean Canada or the US?As to the murder of this woman, are you suggesting that it was justified? Canada or US. Here is North America. Canada has a lot of rightwingers plying their "news" on us to. You wonder if I'm suggesting if the killing was justified? Where do you get that from? I'm suggesting the fact that the USA is involved in the news business over there....just like they are here. I also suggested that maybe they shouldn't be. Certainly, if this TV station wasn't an arm of the occupation, it wouldn't be targetted. Is that what you're asking?
  7. nuclear fuel in not nuclear weapons, at least last time i checked. I'm not sure I understand your point. My point is that this is something that Bush was STRONGLY against. Demonstrating Bushs new irrelevance, it's going ahead anyway. Spent fuel rods are somethign that can be processed to provide the main ingredient to nukes. The bone thrown to Bush that he's happily chewing on is that part of the agreement is Iran will return the spent rods. Nice of Putin to give Bush a little face saver. He didn't have to. Next up America will want the IAEA in there.....watch. More bluster and demands by the irrelevant Bushies. Answer from Iran will be no. Russia will back 'em up. What will CONdi and her Bush do? Irrelevance = ineffectual.
  8. You can't, until the entire scenario has played itself out. IOW, we will have to wait and see what the end result is......Do you think Bush/America and Israel will allow Iran to aquire nuclear weapons? I can't what? It's already played out....read the news. Putin is doing what he wants, and the bone he threw chimpy was a pledge to collect up all the spent rods. It's a done deal, it's played out. Chimp and his pals are already falling over themselves to pretend this is all A-OK. Know why? Because he's not relevant in the situation anymore and he knows it. What, exactly, is Israel/America/et al going to do about it? Piss all, that's what. In case you haven't noticed America is stretched out militarily. There is not enough gas left to put Iran (and a coalition of Arab states which would surely jump to help them) down without major destruction on both sides. Do you honestly think America would ignite the whole region in war just to take the bomb away from Iran? Bush bluffs and everyone knows it. Just like he'd never admit he smoked pot, he'll never admit he can't stop Iran from doing what it wants.
  9. Well, seeing that it hasn't been touched for a few days, perhaps people like you are the reason it's the "longest running active thread"? Your point makes no sense though. "Why ideed"? Why indeed what?
  10. Back on topic: Iran Signs Nuclear Fuel Deal With Russia BUSHEHR, Iran (AP) - Iran and Russia ignored U.S. objections and signed a nuclear fuel agreement Sunday that is key to bringing Tehran's first reactor online by mid-2006. read rest here Main Entry: rel·e·vant Function: adjective 1 a : having significant and demonstrable bearing on the matter at hand So tell me, how is bush relevant in this situation? He's being forced to watch on the sidelines and chew on a little bone Putin tosses him. And surprise, he's chewing on it!
  11. I think the referenced quote brings up an interesting dilema. While it is not a personal attack, it is an attack upon something I take personally: my country. To respond to such a dittie, I have to attack the country the poster is from in a vicious way, or the poster himself. The forum rules do not allow personal attacks, so then I guess I am supposed to viciously attack Canada and its citizens. Is this the idea? I think you should report it. And while you're at it, include the original quote by you that I was responding to: Don't you just love catching someone with both feet in the hypocrisy jar?
  12. READ THE REST HERE.. The US administration should get out of the TV business in Iraq. Come to think of it, they're pretty heavy into the news business here....maybe government influenced news is part of democracy? Can any Americans here testify? Any cases of government bought editorializing down there? This isn't the only TV station regarded as an American propaganda tool by Iraqis. Al-Iraqiya TV is also widely regarded assuch.
  13. Our "dittie"? I missed that one. Besides the fact that your "take" on Canada don't mean squat, I think you've got it backwards. Americans are the cowards. Kill 3000 of them and they're all shitting their pants....even years later. Is life worth living when you're always afraid? America acts as if terrorism was invented on 9/11. They think the realatively small loss of life on 9/11 excuses all the subsequent paranoid, neurotic, and violent behaviour by their leadership. America is now a nation of mice staring out of their holes with wide nervous eyes. The courage to even challange their bad leadership evades them.
  14. Which initiatives and requests? It would seem he's been refused much more lately than suported. I'm afraid I'm not getting your picture because it's not drawn very well at all.
  15. Don't you think chimp WANTED Canada on board? Of course he did. He brought it up with Martin in private, with the opposition leader in private, and then in public....so obviously it was important to him to have Canada on board. Thus the term "screwed himself". I really shouldn't have to explain something so simple. Ah, the old "He's a plain talker" compliment. Gosh darn, he's like a breath of fresh air! So..."open". So "honest". gag. I hate to break it to you, but he's just a bad statesman. I mean, it is possible to be open, honest, and fresh air-like without putting your host on the spot. Bush is a moron, and morons often appear to be open and honest.
  16. Scenario Three: No missile gets fired by anyone. The US spends Billions on a system that most Americans wish had never been bothered with. Canada once again proves it's a good friend willing to be blunt with the US when they stray off the path. Not neighbourly? You mean like "Hey neighbour, stick yer head in the oven" "Duhhhhhh OK!" We should be neighbourly like that? Canada benifits from this? Because we're protected? Protected from what? This will start a new arms race. The USA will only suceed in motivating other nations to engage in new weapons development. As in "arms race". At one time the USA was considered willing to pre-empt threats by invading nations....after listening to chimp these days others must NOW consider the USA willing to invade nations it sees as non-democratic (Iraq, N.Korea, Russia, China..ect ect ect) Bush has declared his administrations goal is to spread freedom and liberty. At the same time they're developing new nukes (spending 8 million on that project) and developing BMD (spending LOTS on that!). What should Russia and China do? Sit back and wait for the USA to become a fortress which can attack other nations with impunity? Methinks they're starting work on stealth missiles......which will render Bushs whole idiotic system useless. Kudos to Martin for staying out. Now revenge will be exacted in the form of trade pissiness. Oh well, we've been putting up with that for a while now. We'll just have to work on bolstering other markets.
  17. You're quite confused about the meaning of irrelevance in the context of this topic. Just because GWB will continue on with his policies does not give him relavence. No, he doens't need Canada to do his little project. He didn't need anyone to go into Iraq either....although he did bribe and threaten and cajole a coalition together to scrape up a sense of legitimacy. The irrelavance I'm talking about is that of influence. He has almost no influence among leadership in the world. If his influence/relevance was not at such a low point then he would get some support for his initiatives and requests. Instead he is being defied and ignored. Yes, he can continue on....just like the worms in the garden will continue squirming through the dirt with no help from me. That doesn't make them relevant either. And yes, I did read Celluccis fear mongering for his boss. I was mildly interested and somewhat annoyed with it, but I don't really consider it relevant. It's coming from GWB anyway, and who really cares what the F$%k he's got to say anymore? Starting to get the picture?
  18. It doesn't matter if they had a successful test or not. It doesn't matter if they will "deploy" regardless of what Canada thinks. It doesn't matter if Celluci spreads his bosses lying claims that we've given up "sovereignty ". The idiot Bush screwed himself when he attempted to strong-arm Martin into this by bringing it up at a press conference.....but then, he's always screwing himself by using the press as his foreign policy communicator rather than private channels. He insults foreign leaders, and then wonders why his enemies are so motivated and old allies are so cool to him. But none of that matters either. What matters is the BMD is a piss-poor waste of money which can only serve to start a new arms race. Is it not common sense that some nuclear countries will now scramble to either A. Build thier own BMD shield. or... B. Build misiles that are undetectable to BMD technology? It's a fools errand.....and in the doing of it they're scaring up plenty of other fools with fear-mongering about incoming ICBM's. Thank God we're keeping out of it. Let this administration threaten us all they want.....and Lord knows they are. They're out of control and this is a good reality check.
  19. Is that a right reserved for yourself? ie. you claimed to know the Americans would pay for it all. Then you claimed it was already paid for. Also you claimed that the defensive positions would be better if Northern Canada were available. Lot's of assumptions there....
  20. Your statement seems kind of foolish actually. Just because he has the might/power to kill doesn't make him relavent. Try to think about less obvious forms of power, like political influence. Sure, he can bomb anyone....including Canada for example. Still, our PM has told him we're not joining his space weapon thingy....even after Bush specifically asked him to in a press conference! He is being ignored....he's become irrelavent. Hey, if he gets all pissy about it and starts bombing Russia and Germany and Canada then I guess his relavence increases. We'll wait on that, see if it happens, EH?
  21. I'm not anti-American. If I'm against the Bush administration that makes me anti-American? Have another glass of koolaid.
  22. I know you are but what am I? Look, if you're going to make these kinds of statements then why not at least TRY to engage in some kind of argument? I just finnished explaining why Bush is irrelavent 3 posts ago. You think a reply of "he's not irrelavent" means anything? Why should we care what YOU think??
  23. What are you talking about?
  24. This is no joke, please don't take this as an insult... what is your source of news?
  25. Er, no. He has become irrelavent. Check out this article: http://www.time.com/time/columnist/karon/a...1029937,00.html Let's let go of this feel good idea that "nobody is ever irrelavent" Let's assume my definition that people are irrelavent when their peers stop caring about what they say/want. In that sense, Bush is irrelavent. If you still disagree with me, then you haven't read the article.
