  1. The name tells you where I'm from. I'd like a Senate that would be an effectice counter balance to , (and I guess some of you are thinking I'm going to say the House), the PM, as the power evidently rests in the PMO. Whether it is EEE, or something like it I haven't really thought about.
  2. The program is available in the US through the school system, as opposed to the health system Good question. Yes. How much and to what practical extent is the question. And that August my friend, if I may be so bold, is the rub.
  3. Economic Left/Right: -5.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.08 Interesting.
  4. You make some very good and valid points Eureka. Respect is a simple concept. You can disagree with someone and vent that disagreement, even anger, and you can do it with respect. Not necessarily because he's George W. Bush, but because he's the President of the United States. Look at the fighter pilots of the first World War. They were up there trying to kill each other, but at the end of the day they toasted each other. When a body was recovered by one side, they'd call a truce and return the body, with respect. My point is, Parrish could have voiced her disagreement and anger with Bush in a more respectful way, not because he's G.W. Bush, but because he's the democratically elected President of the US. For that matter, because he's a human being. I know if my 5 year old daughter did some of the stuff she's done or showed the disrespect Parrish has shown to Bush to another child, she'd get her butt tanned real fast.
  5. Marble Mountain in Corner Brook (on the west coast of the island) has grown in the last few years. Marble Mountain
  6. Agreed. AND have to be made diplomatically, that is with maturity, sensibilty and understanding of the ramifications that damage to the relationship could bring. The same is true if it is the US president, a provincial premier or the leader of another country. What I meant is, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Kings and Queens come and go, but the office remains. How many people out there, north and south of the border, make the distinction between Bush the President and the Office of the President? Very few. And while we should oppose Bush the President, the Office in which he serves, no matter how much he screws it up, deserves better. I saw an interview Parrish had on Newsworld this morning, and a lot of what she said made sense, particularly about the riding nomination fights apparently precipitated by Martin. When she speaks sensibly and maturely, I can sympathize with and understand her. But her rants of the past year are too much.
  7. Could it get any worse? The border isn't open to live cattle despite assurances from the President and US ambassador over the last year. It would force us to jump ahead of the Americans and institute a full test system, in which every animal going to slaughter would be tested. That would open up markets for the beef in other places like Japan. While I wouldn't wish hardship on the ranchers and cattle producers, I think this (instituting a full test system) would be the silver lining.
  8. Well, there goes another stereotypical misconception of mine about Saskatchewan. I thought it was flat and that's it. Thanks for that info caesar.
  9. Maybe, but the office of the President deserves respect, no matter who's sitting in the Oval Office. Stupidity, like sex, sells kimmy. Here's an elected MP, a representative of the people (supposedly) who we expect to act in a dignified matter in regards to government, and here she is going off like fireworks on Canada Day over Bush. On the other hand, as you point out, we have Mr. Layton systematically laying out an argument against missile defence, like we would hope and expect. Because of it, he doesn't get the press he deserves and the "poo-flinging monkey" is on the front page of every newspaper and website, which can now be accessed by people from around the world. Just imagine, that is now the image of Canada floating around the world in cyberspace. Makes you proud, doesn't it?
  10. At least he is not an elected representative, he's a right wing version of a shock jock trying to cater, without shame, to a select target audience. There's a difference between speaking your mind and the constant ignorant and personal nature of her attacks against Bush. Basically, my concern is not so much the message (that is the nature of the administration) as it is the delivery (rude, ignorant, etc).
  11. Not so plain or simple. There were several caucus members featured on the various news networks saying when she they (the caucus) could all go to hell, she deserved to be kicked out. Up until now she focused squarely on Bush, but when she turned on Martin AND the caucus, her days had to be numbered. And rightfully so. That, added to the icreasingly hostile personal attacks on Bush mere days before a state visit, and she had to go.
  12. Nobody wants to be Ontario BBM. Just kidding. With the established indutry in Ontario, the only province that can come close is Alberta, which if I'm right is gone beyond Ontario already.
  13. Ottawa is the home of the plitical circus MS. No one comes out of this mess looking good, and the people who will end up uffering, as usual, are the ordinary folks who depend on trade and positive relations with the US, like lumber producers et al, cattle producers, farmers, etc.
  14. How aout the rest of the caucus? She said she didn't care if they lost the next election. There are 133 other Liberal MP's who msut have shuddered at that kind of talk.
  15. Well, she's toast. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories Good for Martin.
  16. I agree BBM. Criticism of Bush aside, she has openly defied and criticized her leader and her PM. I just don't get what she thinks she has accomplished. She herself is now an outcast in the Liberal party, neither other party is going to want to touch her with a ten foot cattle prod. What sympathy and cooperation is she going to get from government officials in regards to looking for help or resources for her district and constituency? I think any leader would give her the boot for what she has done, whether it is the PM or the leader of the oppposition or the leader of any party.
  17. I believe that during the last confirmed tests Canadian labs had access to materials from the animal for our own independent tests. The deciding factor may be the trace back of the cow's origins. Last time, the Canadian process was more reliable.
  18. I know it's not the polite way to be, but I hope so kimmy. They deserve a little of their own medicine.
  19. Well, it's the end of the world as we know it. CRTC Approves FoxNews for Canada.
  20. The soap opera continues. Williams was in Toronto and Sullivan (Finance Minister) was in Ottawa yeasterday. Williams was there with Lord, Hamm and Binns, who were trying to drum up support for the region, while Sullivan left in a hurry to meet Goodale in Ottawa. Here's what Williams said yesterday.
  21. I disagree August. I believe the tariffs are paid by Canadian companies to the US Cutoms Service that ship the lumber across the border, not by the American companies that receive them.
  22. Don't get me wrong, IF they have done, good on them. I really didn't know they had an oil industry. I guess I'm a little guilty of stereotyping Sask. as mainly an agriculture province. To anyone from Saskatchewan, I apologize.
  23. I disagree with you Cartman. What is she doing besides helping to make a strained relationship worse? Who's she helping? She lost credibility with this Canadian with her juvenile and destructive attitudes. That's fine, but like it or not, he's an elected head of state. I don't hear Parrish or anyone else bellyaching about Tony Blair. If Blair came here would we hear the same stuff from that twit. I suspect not. And Blair was right there with Bush, like Straw was there with Powell and Hoon was there with Rumsfeld.I'm no fan of Pres. Bush, and I'm all for voicing opposition to some of his policies. But if a MP who's salary and inevitable exorbitant pension is paid for by Canadian taxpayers can't find the sense to at least be cordial and constructive in her criticisms, she should shut up. Her attitudes and remarks could affect a relationship that's very important to the country as a whole. She should understand and keep that in mind. All Carolyn Parrish looks like to me now is the loud mouth, obnoxious, disrespectful and childish cousin I was forced to put up with at the family Christmas get together while I was growing up.
  24. kimmy, I will admit that I am as surprised as you are. According to the Gov. of Sask. website: I confess, I did not know that. I still don't think they've acheived "have province" status though. In an article dated today from the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, Sask is in a better financial shape right now because of: Note that equalization is included.
