  1. Youre welcome to do it all you like.
  2. You can speculate what could have happened all you like. But you cant deny MAD has outlived its usefulness.
  3. I understand the concept well. Before we even had these weapons, there was not a need for MAD. Would you not agree that the world would be a better place if we didnt need MAD?
  4. We are not advocating the dismantling of nuclear apparatuses for peaceful purposes (energy, industry etc). Just weapons. The problem with deterring war with these weapons is that if we point the cross-hairs at an uppity rogue state, their going to want to do the same thing with us. Can you honestly say you would feel safe with a system like mutually assured destruction in place?
  5. So you're saying we should do nothing? Are you telling me you'd rather let world events play out regardless of what the outcome may be? A nuclear exchange is a war where nobody wins and everybody loses. Im glad you find comfort in your cynical mindset.
  6. I dont see how potentially waging mass genocide in the blink of an eye and reducing the world to an irradiated wasteland constitutes civilization. If we disarm everyone, than we have taken a rather large step towards world peace. The police in my neighborhood can keep their guns. At least with guns I dont need to run a Geiger counter over a glass of water everytime a shots are fired.
  7. The arsenals of other countries. Canada should take a leading role.
  8. Well aware. The petition isnt for getting rid of some non-existent weapons, but to get the PM to see the growing movement towards disarmament within Canada.
  9. Hey all. I am part of an activist group called Global Zero. For those of you who haven't heard of us, we advocate the phased eradication of nuclear weapons around the world. My chapter is based out of York University in Toronto and we are looking to spread the movement across Canada. The international group is based in many countries around the world. Signatories to our global movement include such names as Queen Noor of Jordan, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Hans Blix. These are just some of the facts readily available at our websites: http://www.globalzero.org/ http://www.globalzerocanada.org/ Now the reason I have come to you today is to make a simple presentation. On our website, we have this little thing called a petition. The document is there to show our Prime Minister that there is a growing movement within Canada to take a leading role in the disarmament of such arsenals. This comes at a crucial time with the new START treaty being signed and deliberated over by Russia and the US. Your signature on our petition ensures that Canadian voices will be heard when this whole drama plays out on the international stage. Please read our statement to the PM and if you agree this reflects your point of view on the subject, then please by all means sign it. The document can be found here: http://www.globalzerocanada.org/get-involved/sign-the-petition Feel free to take a look at the rest of the website as well. I think you find some things to your interest there. Spread the word, and lets save the world together.
  10. Exceptions to the rule do exist. Only one thing I can think of at the moment is the movie precious.
  11. Has anybody given any consideration to the fact that this could be a taliban ploy to lure nato troops? Like something similar to feigning a retreat to get the enemy to follow you into an ambush.
  12. I heard from a few Canadian veterans that Afghan officials are trying to get Canada to stay because their afraid of the Germans taking over Canada's area of responsibility.
