The demographic trend is there, it's just further down the line for Canada than it is for European countries.

I didn't say that. -

Why is that possibility so hard to fathom? People hustling controversy for personal gain is hardly uncommon. We've already got a discrepancy in the events, with her originally saying she didn't know why she wasn't permitted to attend, and then she stated that the RCMP removed her claiming that the reason was because of "Liberal connections", apparently because of her Facebook profile photo. -

How does a school system "cater to Caucasian students"? I didn't know Caucasians were a cohesive group that could be catered to educationally. -
And they think little Abdul from who was born here with his doctor mother and engineer father from Paksitan is just like all the other Abduls in back in the homeland (edit - and wholly representative of mainstream Pakistani culture)

An Open Letter to U.S./CDN Governments Regarding the U.N.
Bob replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
I voted for withdraw all funding and remain as members. Perhaps the UN can be reformed, but only if enough pressure is placed on it. Get in line and stay true to the mandate, or don't get any funding. Also, the UN needs much more stringent criteria for membership, and dissolution of many of its politicized subsidiaries. -
I miss the days when The Simpsons was a good show. It seems that those who are attacking the video, even though it is a bit dramatized with the eerie music and special effects, are putting their heads in the sand with respect to the simple facts of massive Muslim growth. Rather than address the simple facts, GostHacked writes it off as "fearmongering". If these folks are fine with Canada eventually becoming a Muslim country, then fine. Let's get them on the record saying that they're comfortable with Canada being a Muslim majority country. Let's drop the political correctness.

Exactly. We're already seeing contradictions. -

I have the same suspicions. When I read that it was her own statements that she was removed and told it was because she had "Liberal connections (or something to that effect), the first thing that occurred to me was - why should we believe this girl? I'm already starting to suspect she's just another loser trying to make a name for herself by inventing a controversy. Maybe she's just going after her fifteen minutes of fame in an underhanded way. It certainly wouldn't be the first time. -
I know that's how you like to think of it. There are limits to it, though, and they need to be combined with things such as intuition. That's why all concepts with any degree of subjectivity instantly short-circuit your mind - I've seen people like you before, it's not original and it isn't endearing. Everything needs to quantified and measured. Things such as pride, loyalty, nationalist, racism, liberty, oppression are all hard for you to fathom, since they can't be put onto a scale, photographed, smelled or put into your safety deposit box. Perhaps a political forum isn't the best place for you? You're speaking to someone who's taken many science courses at the academic level, by the way. It was my minor in university.

Did I say that? No. What I'm saying is that the USA and other countries are in an unfortunate position of having to do business with various states and groups that engage in behavior that is contrary to our values. Again, a robotic-thinker like yourself needs that to be spoonfed to him. I bet you were just salivating in the hopes that I am some bigot that thinks that Saudi Arabians are somehow inherently inferior, just waiting to link me to a Wikipedia page about DNA.

Oh my god, get over yourself! Not every thread needs to turn into a fifty-page dialogue. Who gives a damn if a thread doesn't yield a lot of replies or if I don't have a specific argument to make? I view these forums as discussion areas, but they can also be used to share information. What are you, some defender of MLW bandwidth who has decided that only threads started with an opinion on some controversial issue are worthy of existence? You're acting like such a pretentious little child. I don't know the first thing about Indonesia, and I don't have much of an opinion about these events other than the fact that they seem to be connected to a broader phenomenon of religious violence associated with Islam in many parts of the world. There are also extreme examples of this happening in Nigeria.

I have a feeling that you're the kind of person that thinks buying oil from Saudi Arabia makes the USA complicit in the oppression of people in that country. If these people weren't barbarians to begin with, we wouldn't have these problems. You seem to be unable to reconcile the reality that oftentimes out essential interests (or better put, our NEEDS) come in conflict with our principles with respect to foreign policy. This phenomenon, however, is a function of the nature of the people around the world that we unfortunately need to deal with.

Ya I saw that post, and I didn't bother replying. You're obviously not creative enough to make the connections between the varying things he was talking about. Like a robot, you viewed them all as random anecdotes without any meaning - unable to make the connections to broader themes or perhaps to your own personal experiences or things you've learned over the course of your life. Somewhere along the line you must've picked up the idea that it's endearing to think robotically and view every single thing through the lens of "objectivity". Again, it's as if you just learned about the scientific method last week and now can't stop thinking about it. Like a little kid who just discovered a new TV-dinner and eats the same thing every night for the next eight months. I didn't really care about a discussion in that thread, anyways, I just thought some people would enjoy the videos as I did. Same for the Michael Ware videos.

israel responds to terrorism by killing civilians
Bob replied to bud's topic in The Rest of the World
I guess it makes you feel better to label me an extremist, whatever that means. I guess supporting Jewish independence and self-determination via Israel and wanting to live in security makes me "extreme". -

Look, I'll retract that first sentence - I agree with her, but not 100%. I don't sincerely want Gaza to be "taken off the ground". What I want, however, is a more effective response from the Israeli government, and a complete stop to rockets coming from Gaza. It can be stopped, and it can be stopped quite quickly. The Israeli government, however, is unwilling to do what must be done - because it is afraid of harm befalling civilians. -
Why don't you tell us all about it? More importantly, how is it relevant to the current problems mentioned in the OP? I am completely unfamiliar with Indonesian history, I just thought that this story was another illustration of a few common trends we've discussed in this forum over the past little while.

An Open Letter to U.S./CDN Governments Regarding the U.N.
Bob replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
Zionism's fundamentals aren't really debatable. And let's not pretend even for a second that "critics of Zionism" (basically, anti-Zionists) ever make distinctions about what forms and/or components of Zionism they oppose. Go through statements from the UN representatives of Arab/Muslim countries which mention Zionism, and Zionism is never quantified. They don't say they oppose Zionism that views all of the West Bank as part of the Jewish people's birthright. They don't say they oppose secular Zionism. They don't say they oppose revisionist Zionism. They oppose ZIONISM, period. Not really. The best way to go about achieving and preserving its objectives is debatable, but not really the concept itself. Are you suggesting that anti-Zionism isn't almost always inextricable from anti-Semitism? It is certainly anti-Semitism when advanced from any one of the plethora of prominent Arab/Muslim intellectuals and/or pundits who do the political rounds and oppose Zionism in one breath (directly or not-so-directly) and then cry out for Palestinian national rights. Depends on the criticism, of course. -

It was a resolution that sought to destroy Jewish self-determination. And it took, what, 19 years to get the resolution retracted? It doesn't matter, anyways, the most recent Durban conference was the same thing. The UN and its subsidiaries are still vehemently anti-Zionist. This is a natural function of the massive worldwide Muslim population and the huge number of Arab/Muslim states and their supporters. It's a simple numbers game, with a "tyranny of the majority" consistently attacking the Jewish state. -
As usual, it's America's fault. I'm glad to see you're still consistently on message.

You actually expect me to reply to such an idiotic supposition, even if it is sarcastic? Stop being so broad and get to the point. You have a very strange way of criticizing, and in this case indirectly criticizing, arguments that haven't been made and perspectives that haven't been advanced. Didn't you learn your lesson in the thread regarding the John Stossel videos? You have this itchy online trigger-finger (metaphorically), where all you do is attack strawman after strawman after strawman,

It's ok, bud, you're on the record for not answering direct questions. Don't worry, I didn't expect you to answer the simple questions because the honest answers would dismantle your false narrative about the "causes" of Arab/Palestinian terrorism. -

I don't believe Gaza should be "wiped off". I simply expressed sympathy with a lady who's lost patience with the terrorism from Gaza and the Israeli government's consistently weak response to this threat. The Gazan residents are not made to suffer for their actions, they have no accountability. No matter what they do, they get rewarded with more aid and more diplomatic support. -

Of course, feel free to continue labelling me as an "extremist settler", and other such politicized pejoratives rather than simply answer simple questions. It seems that as you get more desperate, you lean more heavily on personal attacks. In all seriousness, though, for someone who seems to be so passionate about this issue, you certainly don't know much about it. Dishonesty I'm used to, and that's expected from people like yourself... what's less forgivable is not even knowing much about the subject. At least tell me that the Zionists started it before 1967, or that the Arabs/Palestinians were preemptively striking against imperialism/colonialism/oppression. In an ironic way, I'd make a much better anti-Israel activist than you because I've read so many more of the arguments/propaganda from "your side". Knowing a lot more about the history (real and imagined) also helps. -

Bob replied to bud's topic in The Rest of the World
So basically, you can't answer the simple question - What were the Arabs "defending" themselves against before the Six-Day War? If their violence is a response to what you described as violation of their human rights, occupation, settlements on their land, and other egregious offenses, why were they killing (murdering) us before any of those things came about? Answer that question, please.
