In the end it comes down to common sense, if you're left handed and want to somehow "change" your predominant hand then by all means try...but don't expect those around you using logic & common sense to buy into the fact that you've "changed", even if you believe you have. It's not about normalcy, we are normal, we don't need religious fundies to tell us that....it's about equality via legislation. The idea that we should just accept "separate but equal" legislation and simply shut up about our rights is pretty much what causes minorities to delve into absurdity...that isn't going to happen here.

The same reason black rights and women's rights were promoted, to achieve equality. Of course, equality is not good enough in the eyes of the few that occupy the majority, but that's okay, bigots eventually drown themselves. Mardi Gras could be equivalent to an overly-sexualized gay pride parade, I haven't heard you complain there...apply standards if you may, but not double standards. That's not a gay issue, that's an issue you have with women. I hang out with a lot of women, not because I'm gay, but because (in my opinion) they feel more "comfortable" around a gay man and less-threatened (especially during a night out). You know what they tell me they look for in a man, confidence...not some whiny prick who tries to seduce them with free drinks and self-defeating pickup lines And who said they were? I'm gay and have just as much interest in seeing a 50 year old man in leather pants as I do a 50 year old woman in leather pants. The problem here is not with the majority of homosexuals, it's with a niche you've decided to straw-man and the beat the entire gay movement with. Why don't you ask me questions regarding homosexuality and the gay community? Why do you rely on moronic insinuations with no validity? I'll be happy to answer your questions, just ask, we're not as scary as you think... I accept your right to think however other morons of your caliber think but don't expect me to go down without a fight. This stupid and idiotic conspiracy-like assumption that there exists some form of "gay social-engineering" is hilarious. Any straight guy on this forum will concede that nothing a homosexual does to them will make them "gay", the only ones who think this way are either insecure about their own sexuality or simply bisexual/gay themselves (and haven't accepted it). And what's with your medieval thinking of people "not doing their duty" and "breeding as husband and wife" - from this I gather that couples with no children and "parents out of wedlock" is some sort of social aberration? This is the 21st century sir...people are "out and proud" because they're not going to take the shit of the past. I know you hate this, I know the confidence exuded by gay people upsets you but frankly I don't care....I really don't. I don't mean to sound so abrasive in my posts but I'm really a nice guy with a passion for equality and an absolute intolerance for narrow-minded cretins

And just to add, those who think being gay is a choice are the ones mentally ill, it's a shame they don't list that one down

Well actually this proves you didn't read his book, because Hooper brings up the hunter/butcher theory and talks about it in immense detail, did you just skip over those chapters? He provides what he thinks happened but that's what authors do, present the evidence and then their opinions, he just presented a vast amount of theories. Are we talking about AIDS infections specifically in the United States on a Canadian forum? I was talking about infections globally, this removes the ignoramus bias of "Gays cause AIDS" - but if I'm going to bite into this argument, would you also say that being black is an illness based on these CDC findings? http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/3563/7c...nosesbyrach.jpg And by the way, do you know the ratio of AIDS infections amongst gay women? You'd be surprised... What legitimate scientific organizations agree with your statement? Could you at least name one? Simply asserting it in every post doesn't make it so
-
I think stupidity is a mental illness. Your idiotic and nonsensical assertion that it's a mental illness and only changed due to political correctness is equivalent to me saying the same thing about women's rights, black rights, or even the right for left-handed individuals to be considered normal. And 38% of homosexual men have an antisocial personality disorder, is this proven? Has it been peer-reviewed and scientifically analyzed? Two-thirds of the newly infected AIDS-patients are attributed to heterosexual sex. In the United States alone African-Americans have the highet ratio of HIV/AIDS infections... so, are these mental illnesses as well? The most popular book on the HIV/AIDS epidemic is called 'The River' - it's several hundred pages but well worth the read, it'll make you appear a lot less ignorant.

I'm sorry but how does this relate to marriage? Are you insinuating that gay marriage will change heterosexual marriages? I just gave you an example of how the definition has changed hundreds of times and what we consider taboo today was perfectly legitimate in the past. But she's considered an equal amongst other women. When I debate I get this a lot, many people say to me "oh, so you're against male restrooms and female restroom!?" and I tell them, no, because they're equal...I would be against restrooms for gay people and restrooms for straight ones... Look at the analogy like this, is rap new? Has rap only been called "noise" in the past because it was a stigma to be a rap artist? Well that's what we call a slippery slope logical fallacy, if we let "X" then inevitably "Y" will happen. You can't choose whether or not to like pizza but you can certainly choose how many pieces to take.

Oh I'm an evolutionist, of course I believe we all have these "animal" instincts to "reproduce" but I also know we operate on logic. An urge for a kleptomaniac to steal may be inherent but doesn't make it right and certainly doesn't prove their preference in terms of what to steal next

Where do we start? We can go back and see how the Mesopotamians regarding married as slave unions, dowry was almost always a prerequisite as we come close from BCE to CE, endogamy and exogamy, even the concept of love originated in the 19th century... For the same reason a black person is entitled to drink out of the same water fountain as everyone else. I don't understand the obsession with this word on the side of those who are so adamant and want to "own" it. If you don't like sharing the word marriage with homosexuals then why don't you call it something else, fair? Contrast it like this, I may not like rap music...I may not like it so much as to not even think it's music but "noise" - but do I have the right to force rap artists and rap producers to stop using the word music? It's very simple, if I don't like rap music then I simply don't listen to it, and if their use of the word 'music' offends me....then tough. Why shouldn't they be? Better single parent than no parents at all What do you mean?

So in that case is a 46 year old man reproducing with a 12 year old girl moral (or "right") granted they've both hit puberty? Also, sexual anatomy (even going right down to biological reproduction) does not explain sexual orientation, it doesn't tell us why men for instance may have an attraction to Caucasian women but not to Asian women. And love (or a heterosexual attraction) can't entirely be linked to reproduction otherwise infertile women, old women, and any sterile man wouldn't have anyone attracted to them...

So if it's a gene, it's normal....yes? Where is the straight gene located? What chromosome does it lie on?

Are you talking about homosexuals or the whiny Christian conservatives? I find it hilarious that you call it "whining" - what would happen if the idiots on the right were prevented from marrying....just consider the consequences from preventing Catholics or Christians in general from adopting, or marrying, or whatever... What do you think would happen? Would you be one of the so-called whiners fighting for your rights? It's one thing to call another group whiners, it's another to see completely beyond your own stupidity Oh definitely! All those clubs occupied on Friday & Saturday nights have nothing but celibate chase religious folks right? And regarding your second statement, what is your source? I operate on logic and evidence, have any? Hopefully you didn't pull this from where I think you did...

He has a point though... We all have jobs where people make their lives (and the lives of employees) harder when they don't have to. Now you may say "who gives a shit what the employee thinks?" - and you'd be right, they're getting paid to do their job but it's the fact that many customers COMPLAIN about empty returns and especially the wait time that they don't realize the giant wait is the result of the customer's own laziness... You can analogize it with using a cab, sure you can smell like you just crawled out of a sewer and sure, you can pay your $23.67 cab fare in pennies but why waste your time, their time, and have no consideration (at least, in regards to hygiene) whatsoever? The world would be a better place if everyone operated on some level of logic...

So what you're doing is proposing gay people stop fighting for equal rights here and perhaps fight for something like, say, helping the homeless? It's kind of ironic isn't it? The snowball effect...know what I mean? The reason I fight for EQUAL rights is because if you let one thing go unnoticed (gay marriage for instance) then it becomes the banning of gay adoption and inevitably leading to the Anita Bryan times when gay employee's had to sacrifice their positions. By stopping the ball of bigotry early on it'll never escalate to that position... Perhaps those worried about what Bob & Fred or Janice & Stephanie are doing next door they should spend their time and effort into establishing a charity that actually benefits society, as opposed to fighting with people that effect them in no way, shape, or form... Ah ha! So you see everyone, it's no longer about achieving equal rights, all those evil activists like myself want to propose things like polyamory (because, you know, having a manage a trois is illegal, right?) and we DEMAND TO BE TREATED EQUAL, how dare we! I wonder what group XYZ would say if they were prevented from doing things like marrying, replacing XYZ with Christians, Jews, Blacks, etc....after all they'd be whining....right? Could you tell me what is exactly "dogmatic" about the gay rights side? Just curious.... Also, would you call the civil rights movement dogmatic on the same terms?

sorry to bump, haha, but this post was epic and so true. Anyone else work at the beer store and can attest to this?
-
What are you talking about? How does homosexual or abortion have any relation in terms of immigration and people's choice to not marry? What are your suggestions? I don't like people who whine and demagogue who then offer no solution...
-
Let me just preface this (before people ask) and say that yes, I am gay, and yes...I am in favor of literally everything gay rights (ie: equal rights) I'm just curious, we're in the 21st century, so why is this even an issue? I have dual-citizenship so I do spend the majority of my time debating in the US (we're a lot more accepting in Canada) but I still can't, to this day fathom how issues like gay marriage or gay adoption can be "hot" topics. The majority (if not all) of the opponents are almost exclusively religious, it's even more comical to hear them say things like "we're just trying to protect a definition!" - ironic when you come to understand the origins of marriage and how it's changed thousands of times in thousands of cultures. So, is it just me or what?

Ontario Pushes Electric Cars as Auto Sector Boost
zinc replied to Dave_ON's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Does anyone else but me think that electric cars are the inevitable? It's going to happen, why procrastinate so much? -
Did they really have to pick this time to do it?

I dont think it's that big a deal Churches get tax exemptions, no one complains...yes?

Unions are useful only in certain companies, the CUPE's right now are annoying and I don't think garbage/city workers should be able to strike, similarly to police/fire/medical

Exactly as I was thinking
