Rae managed to alienate and betray just about everybody during his time in power. He wasn’t sufficiently “progressive” in his legislation or deferential to unions in his policies, so his hard left support melted away, and the unions felt so burned by his betrayal of them that the provincial NDP still hasn’t fully recovered their support. In the depth of one of the worst recessions since the Great Depression, and in what can only be described as a manifestation of jaw-dropping hubris and stupidity, Rae’s primary policy initiatives consisted of raising taxes, cutting services and increasing welfare benefits. To the surprise of precisely no one, unemployment and residency on the welfare rolls exploded, tax revenues plummeted and the deficit and debt spiraled out of control. Well, the surprise of no one expect the NDP government, that is; they furrowed their brows, muttered something about how their Socialist Economics 101 textbook sure didn’t predict this result. Then they went and did it again.But hey you still have good ole "ED back from the Dead"to continue the NDP logic of STUPIDITY. Canadians have had enough of your Socialist make work projects which create nothing and cost everything. The most IRONIC thing about a Socialist (NDP)is that most of it's followers are spoiled youth who never worked a hard day in there lives. BTW I believe BOB has raised himself quite a little fortune,I guess his Socialist days are over now that he hangs out with the rich and travels around the world with that other thief Adrienne Clarkson. As for those self-righteous champions of the poor, downtrodden, disadvantaged, lower-income Canadians, also known as the NDP, not a critical peep has come from top dog Jack Layton’s mouth about this offensive expense. Instead, his media comments indicate support for this junket. Ah yes, Jacuzzi socialism is alive and well on Canada’s left flank. Federal NDP leader in his own words seems wholeheartedly supportive blowing $1 million of taxpayer cash on a junket for Canada’s rich and famous while millions of Canadians work to make ends meet. New revelations about our former Heritage Minister’s 1996 Free Flag Giveaway have just surfaced: Doreen Braverman, a former president of B.C.’s federal Liberal party and owner of a chain of flag stores, says she and a lot of other small suppliers were paid a commission to provide phoney invoices for flags they never made. Braverman said she got $250, 10 per cent of a $2,500 fake invoice. “We didn’t produce any flags — but we sent the invoice and they paid us and we had to pay the suppliers. It was just a way to circumvent,” Braverman told CBC News. When asked whether it was a kickback, Braverman replied: “It is like a little kickback.” Braverman also believes the flag freebie, budgeted for $6 million to $7 million, went way over budget because of the costs for staff, call centres and postage to deliver the flags. “By my estimates, it was $45 million,” she said.
