  1. Isn't the same in any other western country. UK, US and Australia have Professional Associations too but they still accept other degrees and are prosperous nations. Canada seems to be the only western nation (other than New Zealand maybe) that advertises and lures immigrants in but is too rigid and disorganized to allow for leeway for accreditation.
  2. They also bring in a combined amount of over $2.5 Billion to $5 Billion CDN per year that gets taxed. You conveniently fail to ignore that. It surpasses the insane amount of taxes average workers pay. It's the government's easy money that helps the boomers get their pension checks every month. Yet they are the most complaining bunch of the lot. Ironic.
  3. Okay... So Canadian government says they are desperate for skilled workers and doctors, pharmacists etc. but when a doctor with 10 years experience from the UK or South Africa comes here, they have to do 2 years of study + wait 4 years for a license. Isn't that cheating and deceit? Why should the government accept these folks in the first place if they have to wait for 6+ years to even practice their profession? As opposed to the US who readily accept these degrees. Last I heard, they are the world superpower. Why? The whole world agrees due to the smartest minds coming and working in the US. In Canada, the smartest minds are not given an opportunity to shine but rather pushed down and under and demoralized. Over the past 10 years or so, the immigrants are coming here by taking risks not just for a a better life for their kids but also themselves. (i.e. chances to grow in their profession) But as we saw from the Chinese woman in the video, that hasn't happened. The fact that there are even such websites (there are others that target New Zealand which also has a similar shoddy immigration system) shows how pathetic the Canadian immigration system is in getting the brightest of people from all parts of the world and wasting their potential. And to have people like Argus who talk condescendingly towards the immigrants is shameful.
  4. This is B.S. and you know it. if you cared to watch the video from W-5 I posted before, you will see that immigrants are pissed off. They feel cheated and a couple have even tried to file a class action against the government for cheating them. (They both had over 10 years of experience from the UK and were promised good jobs from the British counsel.) This stereotyping as if immigrants are all from Bangladesh and speak very little English is pathetic. Social services my ass, unless they have a job with medical benefits, the so-called "universal healthcare system" still dings you with huge medical expenses. Obviously you won't know it as you probably never been in such a position. Having lived through it, it isn't pretty, even in Canada. The immigrants of the 50's were illiterate and totally willing to do any work to survive and thrive. But the immigrants of today have to pass through a rigorous 'points system' where education level, experience and job security are huge and they are promised jobs by the government that says there's a "demand" for the jobs like Pharmacy and when they come here that degree is worthless and they have to start all over again in their 40's and 50's. Obviously you will find none of that relevant to you and so you will trivialize it or ignore it. But that doesn't mean it isn't happening. The Canadian government and the boomers are leeching off the immigrants more. If you cannot calculate simple numbers let me help you: 250,000 Immigrants a year x $975 processing fee = 243,750,000/year + other ancillary fees Add to that, immigrants are required to bring in certain amount of money, I'm not sure how much it exactly is, but I heart it's somewhere between $25,000 to $50,000. And they obviously spend that money on a car, apartment/house etc. that helps run the economy. So stop acting live you are doing the immigrants a favour when in fact they are doing you a favor by shutting up and minding their own business even though the government has ripped their hopes and dreams. Cut them some slack will ya?
  5. So when the Italians came here and lived and still do among their own community, speak their own languages amongst themselves, continue living like they lived in Italy while benefiting from Canada's relative wealth and prosperity it is Okay but if some Chinese or a Muslim does that it's wrong? Obviously there will be a slight accent. You can't expect them to have perfect Canadian accents just as you can't expect a Brit or a Southerner from the US, you will not understand them, that doesn't mean they don't "usually" speak good English. In fact, most studied Engineering etc. in English (duh!) if it's the accent, then maybe Canada should only advertise for immigrants who speak English with a Canadian accent. (Good luck getting them) How much money do you think they bring in? $25,000, $50,000 or $75,000? Even if they are unemployed or underemployed, that money will dwindle easily. You must know unless you make $100k/year. I find it hilarious that you are trying to brush the issue aside as "they will get by, they have the money" when in reality, most are struggling and are at a breaking point. Do you know what it's like to get resume's declined for being "Over Qualified" by some and decline by others for not having any "Canadian Experience" even if they had US or UK experience? The issue is not brought up often as most are quiet, but like I said, the next generation born over the last 10 years and the next 5 years will not take this and you will hear more about them over the next couple of decades. Gangs, social unrest and dissent is caused due to this sort of upbringing until the Canadian government stops BS'ing around and actually does something about accreditation. The US system is much more fair and Canada should adopt such a system, I don't see how Canadian experience is superior than American?
  6. Haha, A proof? How about MANY proofs. But again you will ignore it like everything else. Why waste time? Socialist? LOL, that's the best you can do? How pathetic. If it makes you feel any better, I voted for Harper in both elections. OH sounds like something is burning...
  7. You actually think Immigration is actually hurting the economy? Let's see, 250,000 immigrants a year, $975/per person processing fee into government coffers. Plus, CDN $2.5 – CDN $ 5.0 billion of foreign reserves that these immigrants bring along with them. Plus, add to that, most will do the slave labour equivalent of working minimum wage janitor jobs that no one else will do. The baby boomer generation are now taken care of by the money brought in by the immigrants. How else? We unfortunately live in a pseudo-socialist system where it is unsustainable as there are more taking the benefits than putting in (baby boomers). The genius idea of the government to increase the tax payer base and fill their coffers is false promises of "skilled labour demand" and no jobs.
  8. Don't expect anything to be different for another couple of decades or so. The largely ignored immigrant population are staying quiet right now as most of them have humility due to their professional backgrounds, but the next generation which will not be humble enough to take the crap, and will become a silent majority in Canada. I just hope it doesn't turn violent then like in France. Watch this for an EYE-OPENING view: http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?d...731103789283707 I'm already seeing a widespread dissent from many immigrants in Canada and the anti-immigrant sentiment will only fuel it. The next generation of immigrants will be born into this poverty and will most likely be pissed off.
  9. I find it incredible that people are still wasting time arguing with Mr.Fundie here... Seriously are you guys out of your mind? He has a brain of a 12 year old, if anything, I find his writings to be a parody of how racist fundies think or is that what your grand genius mind is doing Mr.Fundie? Also, can you please tell us how much your trust fund is worth and how big a silver spoon you feed on? Sounds like you waste enough time here babbling BS anyway. I don't know who's more foolish, someone who doesn't reply to posts that DIRECTLY contradict his arguments and is overtly racist or someone who waste hours arguing WITH solid proof against a dweeb. Sounds like a tough argument...
  10. The ironic part is that many immigrants espouse the conservative values of limited government, individual liberty and family values (although the conservative party uses these as a slogan rather than practicing it these days) but yet vote Liberal overwhelmingly due to being alienated by the Conservatives. Yet, the same conservatives complain as if the Liberal party is implementing a scheme to get immigrant supporters. All they need to do is listen. This is not trying to be anti-CPC but rather showing that the conservatives aren't doing a good job of getting votes that would have been in the bag had they not been having such pre-conceived notions.
  11. On the other hand, the mention of "Allah" who is the same God the Christians worship draws uncontrollable fury. In fact, forget the Muslims, how about the Hindus who have done nothing really wrong? Maybe you need to see what the "Religious Right" does to them: Funny how the tables change when this is brought up? The Religious Right is the most hypocritical base ever. I've studied and experienced their school of thought that is very rigid and is anti every religion but Christianity. Sort of like the Muslim fundamentalists only less vocal.
  12. This poll is useless as it will not happen in the US, let alone in Canada. The truth is, abortion will continue even when it is banned much to the pro-lifers chagrin. An even more important issue would be how much of an opportunity these kids get who are born in low-income families get. Being pro-life just doesn't end after birth but should be until the death which unfortunately many pro-life activists forget. The anti-poor wealthy ultra-right wing who supports the pro-life activists should also understand that it's not a cut and dry issue.
  13. Please provide examples other than Toronto and Vancouver. We all know conservatives run them on these constituencies as non-minorities can't win.
  14. Not surprisng. The agenda of hating any other religion but theirs including down to the denomination of the specific religion but blaming the "secularists" for being non-religious. Sounds quite hypocritical.
  15. I've been lurking on this board for a while now but haven't posted yet, but as I was browsing some of the older threads I really can't for the life of me understand the anti-immigrant sentiment on here. It's quite extraordinary. I've been to the US, and I've not seen this in most states other than illegal immigrants.as What's with quite a few Canadians trying to impose their hatred for anything different? By distancing yourself from an immigrant, you are fostering more hatred and isolation from the group. Immigrants also struggle (often more than others) to make their mark. They are often looked down upon by employers as someone who can't speak good English even though they usually do. They are often paid lower wages than others and their degrees that they worked for many years in their countries here contrary to the US are worthless. I find the attitude of "they are stealing our jobs" as insulting and pathetic. The Canadian government promises all kinds of things, says that there is a shortage of skilled professionals i.e. Doctors, brings doctors who eagerly immigrate here but they end up having to start from scratch or studying for 3-4 more years. If that's the case, why advertise for them in the first place? It was shown in a recent research that only 7% of all the welfare recipients in Canada are immigrants (mostly refugees) yet the attitude is as if most of the immigrants are leeching off of the system. I ask why is that? If the Conservative party is looking for a majority status, the immigrant vote is quite crucial, yet, I see many self-professed conservatives (especially the older generation) quite anti-immigrant and talk as if the immigrants are not as patriotic as them. This is the same to some in the leftwing as well. So I ask to those who are anti-immigrant here to speak up your arguments.
  16. Thankfully the Religious Right in Canada aswell as the US aren't as strong as they once were. I'm sure as long as they keep electing old white males in Canada, the RR will be happy. Once a non-white comes in and contests in the Conservative caucus, I'm sure all sorts of questions will start popping up. The politicians NEED the moderates to win and good luck getting them with a fundaMENTAList hypocrisy of electing anyone that praises Jesus and gets dumbed down populace's votes. Preston Manning and Stockwell Day are prime examples.
