No Wonder the Israeli's attack the Palestinians!
IMASINNER replied to wulf42's topic in The Rest of the World
None of our banks failed? Not one. Sure CIBC had to write down some subprime investments they made in the states, but none of them failed. Some may have lived beyond their means but it didn't contribute until after the meltdown in the states. -

Aree you kidding me. Typical American who thinks they are indestructable. Your nation caused the economic crisis we are in. We are still sitting fairly pretty up here. Have fun without Canada's oil. We import more oil to the US than any of the the Middle eastern nations combined. Can't run your tanks without it. Sorry to hijack the thread -

Could this all be part of Harper's plan?

And I think he is going to get it. Isn't a 300 million dollar election better than 30 billion. at least then you know what Canadians want. -

I think the GG can call and election. Evety news outlet in Canada has been saying that she has 3 options, accept the coalition gov't, call an el;ection, or say no and make Harper go back and try again with the financial stuff. Yes, the bloc is no doing anything illegal, none of them are, but Bloc should not be allowed to pull the strings. Personally, I don't know why the Bloc is even allowed to debate during the campaign. -

http://www.vancouversun.com/opinion/op-ed/...9760/story.html Interesting. The GG can just say "no" and make the Cons go back to the drawing table on their economic package and re-present it. Hmmmmm -
I find it laughable that anyone thinks the coalition financial stimulus is going to work. The stimulus packages isnt working in the states. Bailing out the auto industry (which is partly what the coalition is gonna do), cmon, we live in a capitalist society. Is the government gonna bail me out when I f*ck up my business. The auto industry has not listened to it's consumers for YEARS and it's reaping what it sowed. Let them go bankrupt PLEASE. That way Toyota and the foreigns can buy up their factories and I can get a much more fuel efficient BMW made in Canada at a lower price. What to know how to add stimulus to the country?? Go buy a freezer, get a cheque from the government. Buy a car, get a cheque from the government. Go to Canadian Tire and get a tune up, get a cheque from the government. Put the money in the hands of the people who really stimulate the economy. We always talk about recession in terms of consumer confidence. Don't give the money to the companies, they jsut f*ck it up anyways. Look at Canadian Airlines, Pacific Western Airlines ETC ETC. The banks still aren't extending credit, to individuals or corporations alike, like they said they would if they got "stimulated". What makes you this the auto industry is gonna do anything different. Look at WestJet. They set the bar for the airline industry and they have THRIVED! They give the consumer what they want. Air Canada follows suit, and they have been doing a lot better than they were pre-westjet. sorry i was ranting a bit but I believe in what i'm saying

What the Governor General Has to Do!
IMASINNER replied to whowhere's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
First, you don't know that it would be an unwanted election. Or do you? And viable only applies to the working of parliament. It might be viable in the fact that it can be business as usual, but that doesn't mean it's viable to the people, even the people who voted either LIB, NDP, or Bloc. I find it hard to believe that the Liberal supporters, or the majority of them anyway, have happy fuzzy feelings about their party having NDP's being allowed to have their interest tabled and weighed with their liberal party, and the Bloc pulling strings behind them. Most liberals don't even want the guy they have leading the coalition leading their party. So to really know what the people want, have them vote for the coalition or not. -
layton atleast GAINED seats.

I'm from alberta Alta4 and there is no way this province is separating nor do I want to live in a Canada that doesn't have Alberta as part of it. That being said I scared sh*tless of this coalition backed by a french nationalist party. I also think that this coalition government is going to do waaaay more hurt to this country then help it. I felt the same way in '04 when Harps was making his threats. -

63% of the voters in the last election weren't voting for a mixed liberal/NDP cabinet, with backing from the bloc. and I think the overwhelming number of people who withheld their votes weren't too excited about the prospect of any of them and would be even less thrilled of 3/4 of the parties running the country together. Cmon King. Seriously. I think you would have a really hard time getting 63% of THOSE voters to vote for this. I'm so sick of this 63% argument. I am equally sick of the view that 30-somthing percent (CONS) is the majority of canadians -
All the more reason for senate reform.

Could this all be part of Harper's plan?
IMASINNER replied to ThatGuy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wouldn't that trigger an election imediatey? With the Liberals having Dion at the helm and the whole lot of them (coalition) losing touch with canadians? I'm Looking for education on this not confrontation....... -
Could this all be part of Harper's plan?
IMASINNER replied to ThatGuy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It was wrong in 2004 and its wrong now. A pact for the Bloc to cooperate for 18 months is well.....18 MONTHS. A lot of damage can be done in that time. I called for a vote rather than coalition government in '04. A merger with the bloc should not be allowed to happen. -
I think it is interesting that no one has tried to argue or debate the really well put together argument Wild Bill put out. It makes me think that some of the more "outspoken" posters here only will debate posts that are easily debatable. There are not as many well put together arguments on this site (i have spent a lot of time reading before I joined) that i thought there would be. This is very well put together, and hard to argue, based on people ignoring his post. So people who are arguing "the senate" go at him.

Could this all be part of Harper's plan?

really? everyone on this site can debate what will happen, but it is possible that this could go to an election. And at that point any number of things could happen. Including the Cons getting more seats. -
Could this all be part of Harper's plan?
IMASINNER replied to ThatGuy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Does anyone think it's possible that this is all Harper's plan? I mean there was talk of the Liberals and NDP joining forces during the campaign, so this isn't that big of a surprise that they are talking about it now. Does anyone think that it's possible that Harper intentionally pissed off the Opp. so that they would try to form a coalition government (which I believe makes the Opp. look bad to Canadians). I personally believe that an overwhelming majority of canadians are opposed to this coalition government. That's why I ask the question. I think this will make Harper more likley to get a majority gov't down the road and if so could this have been his plan to get it all along? I don't think that anyone can call Harper stupid or unintelligent (he's been called worse I know), in fact he's the opposite, a very shrew politician who is good at the game of politics. maybe not at governing, but politically he's a pretty brilliant tactician. I I have been reading in almost every article regarding this issue that Harper hung himself or blew it, but did he really? I think that the fall out from a coalition government legally taking power is going to have rammifications that none of us can comprehend. Can you imagine the headlines in every paper in the world, "Canadian Government Toppled By Coalition Government, Backed By Separatists". We all know that the Bloc, NDP, and Liberals will be at each others throats after they take over, in months, leading to an election. Then voters who felt misled and ignored, will put Harper (or the next leader of the Cons) in the PM seat with a majority. I mean now hes is taking off the table the very things that are said to have caused the situation, intending to draw out the debate. But the damage is already done and it looks like the Coalition Government is going ahead anyways. I'm really interested in the convo's this will elicit. PS. I have a feeling I am going to get flamed for this one. -

I agree that its a legal move (albeit an outdated, dangerous legal move), but to say this has the blessing of the people is factually inaccurate and irresponsible. In the last election the people were voting for a party to take power. This is a group of completely different minded parties aligning togther to topple an elected government (I agreeit's not a coup) I don't have the numbers and neither do you, but I bet if they were to let the people vote on this coalition government, the people would not give it's blessing. Combining the amounts of seats the LPC, NDP, and Bloc received and calling a coalition government the will of the people is just plain false.
