Now I was poor myself once, but I was never whiny poor. I was working poor. I preferred to work at rock bottom jobs rather than be a leech on society, and gradually, through repeated efforts and education, managed to succeed to the extent I suppose you'd now call me upper middle class. But I lived with a lot of people whose mentality I still see today - though thankfully, not up close any more.
You can see such people most visibly on display in Vancouver. Vancouver seems to have succeded in gather together just about the worst collection of trash and scum the country has available. It's got masses of people who are of no earthly value to anyone, including themselves; criminals, lowlifes, junkies and welfare lifers. The Olympics have brought out some of the more energetic ones in protest.
From what I can gather, their outrage and indignation is that "the government" is spending a sum of money on something other than them. Now I put brackets around "government" because of course, the government has no money. It takes money from people - not THESE people of course - but people like me, and uses it for various purposes. Our society has reached a state where people who can most aptly be classified as vermin feel outrage and indignation that other people, people who work, are choosing to not spend every single available dime on them, that is, on the vermin. It's as if I were outraged that my neighbor chose to buy a boat rather than giving me the money. The thought would simply never occur to me. However, we've so coddled these types, made so many endless excuses for the pathetic and miserable failure of their lives (NEVER their fault of course) that such people feel hard done by, rather than grateful we're keeping the miserable wretches from starving to death in the cold.
That the vermin feels it can gather together, wearing masks and carrying clubs, and assault people and destroy property as part of their "protest" is another indication of how far we've sunk in coddling such people. We all know, of course, that none of them will really be punished for such behaviour - and they know it too. Only a few were arrested, and most of those will be released, probably with an apology. A few will get stern talkings to by the court, and then will simply go out and high five their unwashed brethren and move on to their next protest.
Such vermin infest our society, particularly out in Vancouver, and rather than being exterminated, or at least, put to work somewhere useful, we continue to treat them as if they were actual productive human beings. It truly is a statement on the degenerate state of our society - and particularly, Vancouver's society, right out there for all the world to witness.
You know, if they held an Olympics in one of the world's poorer, more wretched countries, where masses of people live in tin shacks in slums, struggling to survive, there'd be no such protests. Those poor people don't think the world owes them a living, and would probably be quite supportive. Difference in attitude, I suppose.

I find it amazing that other visitors from the world love and cherish aboriginal culture except for the whining dumb rednecks in this country. Well when you think of it, it kind of makes sense since those whining dumb rednecks were the result of prison camps and losers who were sent here to build the railways then they became children of incest--the very whiners you see on forums like this

Curious how the Charter's scope only includes First Nations when it protects them from discrimination, and not, apparently, others from being discriminated against by First Nations.

First the Canadian Government sets guidelines on who is deemed native under Canada's Indian Act - it requires a certain level of blood ancestry. So there is that racism on who can be deemed first nations within the legislation existing in Canada.
As far as I am aware there are two classes of Indians by law in Canada, those who are members of a band, and those who are not. That is a separate issue.
chiefs and their council as far as I am aware are the ones who determine who can live on reserve. Usually non band members need permission of an on reserve band member to be able to be on reserve, such as a spouse.
While I am not totally aware of band bylaws for that reserve or who and how the residency on reserve is handled, I am fairly sure that the chief of that reserve would normally have the powers, like a super intendant to say who can live on reserve. I would guess that the band would have some means of imposing some type of petition or move to change their executive / chief, although this would determine on powers of impeachment or removal the band may have over their chief.
The whole racial thing is bogus - I think I should be able to be full status first nations if I sought to be we were both born on the same planet and the in the same countries. Fact is both their government and Canada's government have set definition status and a split privilege based on racism. Canada needs to end this instituted racism and give first nations the rights of Canadians, and Canadians the rights of the first nations.

Perhaps some stupid law would get in the way...for sure. But when laws stop working for the citizens and start helping the non-citizens, we have a problem. In the future, this is only going to get worse. If climate change proves to be a reality, mass loads of boat people will be Canada's fate. We'd best learn quickly or become more of a dumping ground for the world's refugees than we already are.
This is why we should ship the whole works of you immigrant, boat-people terrorists back to Europe! Imagine the nerve of some of you--the nerve to whine over all the free-land you got..if you don't like it--go back to Europe you Immigrant with seniority you!

It would have been possible for Tiger to have kids with any of the skanks he's been hanging out with, but I doubt golf sponsors would have been as excited about Tiger if he was raising an "NBA style" family.
If money is the only yardstick one chose to measure by, I think there's a fair argument to be made that the image of being a faithful husband and devoted father put dollars into Tiger's pocket.

The games are between the drug companies to see who can make a performance-enhancing drug and still keep it from showing up in a drug test.
There are some events that make the winter games great like the ice hockey. All the others depends on interest but I find boring i.e. curling. And whose going to pay big bucks to sit on a grand stand in Whistler just to watch the participant "whiz" by in a flash. Seems a bit dozy to me

Charter is correct with her comments and of course this is what I was referring to when I use the term "squatters." The RP of 1763, clearly states that treaties were to be signed. Because this never happened the governemtns are squatting, and with their history of treatment to aboriginal people--if you check some of my previous posts, I used the term "land squattin terrorists"
For some reason, history started for your brainwashed, boat-people minds from Europe around BNA Act of 1867 and you conveniently forget the RP of 1763 to cover -up your squatter tracks.
