  1. We are talking about the basic necessities for life here. Thats not being presumptuous. Neither is it so easy to simply wash our hands of a situation that was created and further aggravated by previous generations, who also thought they knew what was best for natives. ->Canada will never resolve its native issue short of complete separation and non intervention. let em do what they want... so long as they are in THEIR part of their land and we are in ours... Where would you like to draw the line? Natives legally own land that would separate this country into different regions, let alone the parts that span the Canada/ US border. The insidious nature of this problem cannot be so easily solved... if it could, it would have been done already. We made this bed, now we don't want to lie in it?
  2. The issues are the same whether its a white supremist or a muslim hating westerners. But the political problem was raised by jewish groups who seek to protect themselves from neo-nazis and holocast deniers, the Bnai Brith etc. who used their political leverage to create hate laws. I do not condemn them for doing so, just pointing out why it seems a a little one-sided. To my mind if it should be enforced, it ought to be straight across the board. Having this sort of a bias only inflames the anger of the white supremacists even more. On the other hand, I don't support the removal of children from their parents just because of having racist views. Its better to engage someone like Ernst Zundell in a public dialog, than it is to throw them in jail for expressing wrong ideas. Doing this only more fuel to the conspiracy theorists.
  3. The native problem will not go away, no matter how much you try to ignore it and the world is condemning Canada for not solving this issue. Whatever we have tried has not worked. It is a black mark on our conscience (if you have one). We lke to pride ourselves in our humanitarian fairness. Wake up, the stink is in your own backyard.
  4. Not if my house was leaking in water, but maybe if hundreds were, in a flood. The local stores only keep enough stuff for a few random incidents, theres not enough supplies for a mass breakout. Thats when you need an emergency shipment. ->I was impressed with the people of North Dakota who faced floods a few months ago. They got together and solved the problem as individuals. Government like fire is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. Government bureaucrats should be our servants, not our masters. I agree, ok, to be self sufficient. Then I should stop paying all these taxes and use the money I save to buy proper supplies to protect myself. But until that system is adopted in this country, I will complain, LOUDLY, that I or others are paying for services and infrastructure but getting nothing in return. Otherwise, what the hell are we paying for the social system... to pad their wallets? Enough with the fat cats, away with them all, be damned. But you just try and withold your taxes, see what happens. So they deserve to be confronted, and even charged, when they do a shit job. Because yes, they are our servants. Now I know, this doesn't apply to the natives in quite the same way, They do not pay or collect taxes in their society. For them its a whole other more complex issue.
  5. I don't know. But it seems to me that is the governments role in any part of the country- to provide supplies and whatever other resources are needed to cope with an emergency. Whether that be a natural disaster, environmental catastrophe or disease outbreak. Especially in remote areas. Would the poster raise the same criticism for a similar emergency in a small remote, non-native community?
  6. Sure... like Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Metallica (not 60 but getting there...) These bands are still playing, to huge audiences. What is sad is that there are no up and coming young artists who can fill their shoes. The state of todays "pop" scene is just a bunch of hollywood assembled boy bands, most of whom couldn't hold their ass up in a concert. Sure there are some who have potential, but its just not a happening scene. And I'm a keen listener to whats going on, in all genres. I listen to what the kids are listening to. My own kids who are teenagers all know the music of the old geezer rockers, play their tunes regularly on their i-pods, and want to go to Kiss and Metallica concerts. Metallica in Ottawa this fall, I am booked as chauffeur.
  7. June 25, 2009 BAQUBAH, Iraq - "At 11 a.m. one day in May, eight Iraqi army Humvees barreled into government headquarters of fractious Diyala province, clouds of dust billowing behind them. They had orders to arrest a council member who belonged to a party that had run afoul of Nouri al-Maliki, Iraq's increasingly assertive prime minister." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31538218/ns/wo...ashington_post/ There is ony one way to run a country like Iraq.
  8. Oh you guys are so old. Or maybe not old enough, to appreciate Kiss. I liked them as a kid. Subsequently I listened to many other forms of music, and saw great concerts too, by ELP, Yes, Genesis as well as many great jazz acts. Now I am a jazz musician myself. Still, if I listen to Kiss now I can hear what I liked about it. Forgetting about their costumes, which really pioneered theatrics and Goth makeup, and demonic metal music, the songs were tight, economical and professionally engineered. Bob Ezrin produced some of their albums and also produce for Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel and many others. What drew me most as a kid was Ace Frehleys guitar playing, and I became a guitarist later in life. Frehley used simple scales but did it effectively, and he pioneered the use of Hammer-ons long before Eddie Van Halen.
  9. I dont doubt that Saddam was brutal, but to think that things are all good there now seems a little naive. They paid a terrible price for the concept of democracy, which is not proven that it will hold for a length of time. Call me cynical but I do not believe that all situations are conducive to democracy- when there are great differences between tribal groups, when distrust has gone on for several generations, there will always be resentment and hate waiting just below the surface. Foreign occupiers may impose law and order but when they leave, the knives come back out. See Yugoslavia. For those types who will not live in civility the only way to maintain order, aside from breaking the country up is by dictatorship.
  10. So what, there are a lot of people who think that. And some of them are not natives. What does this statement have to do with the governments inadequate response ingetting supplies out to the remote communities. Are you a proponent of forcing vaccinations?
  11. Liberal MPs who visited the affected native reserves on Tuesday condemned the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, saying there has been a lack of action in helping the community prevent and cope with the outbreak. "What we saw was so sad and an embarrassment to all the people of Canada," said Liberal health critic Carolyn Bennett. "The residents of Garden Hill have been abandoned by the Conservative government." Manitoba chiefs want H1N1 emergency declared
  12. Although George Bush called North Korea part of the "Axis of Evil", he largely ignored them during his rule and did not seriously attempt to engage in dialog or develop any kind of treaties. This gave them lots of time and freedom to develop their nuclear weapons technology. They first tested a weapon in an underground explosion on Oct. 9 2006- during the time Bush was president. The evidence points to Bushes ideology of distancing the US from their enemies, as part of the reason why the world is less safe today. "Keep your friends close... keep your enemies closer"
  13. Lets ask the guy who threw his shoes at Bush what he thinks- he lives there. Oh wait he is in prison with broken ribs. Think they let him out the other day... he's considered a HERO by the people of Iraq. EVen his brand of shows were sold out. Theres your capitalism. Today- "Baghdad market blast kills scores" At least 61 dead, 116 wounded. On June 22 in Kirkuk: Truck bomb explodes, 73 killed, 200 injured. Yeah sounds grrreat Hooray for dixie... Hey, how many women do they "allow" now in the current Iraqi parliament? How many were elected under Saddam? Oh well, never mind.
  14. Yes its a difficult one to resolve, there isn't a simple solution. The chief on the local reserve is right to express his concerns. But the Grand Chief would have had an important opinion on this, on how to handle it and he/ they should have been consulted. He seems to indicate that the problem it presents is small, compared to the bigger problem of the disease. From that I gather, not many natives would abuse the situation by drinking the lotion, most of them are not that desperate. He is saying, that is a decision the Indian council should make. If some will drink it, let them figure out how to police the situation. Better a few drunk indians, than an outbreak sickening hundreds, including innocent women and children. But I don't know, I don't live there. So let the natives speak and decide, they don't want more decisions made for them by the white man, especially by some committee in some office.
  15. Right. Political correctness or not, you're perfectly withn your rights to tell it "like it is" in your deranged mind. And outing types like you for what you really are, is a pleasure.
  16. You sound like some kind of nationalist nut already. Does this represent the Canadian Alternative Members party? With that kind of attitude, you can forget about my support.
  17. Explain why you think he is far left. What evidence, what policies.
  18. I guess it must be only natives, right? Do you believe that all natives would do this, or just the ones who live as vagrants on the streets in Winnipeg?
  19. Canada's health minister must apologize on behalf of Health Canada for withholding hand sanitizers from flu-stricken reserves because they contained alcohol, one of Manitoba's grand chiefs said Tuesday. A representative from the Assembly of First Nations told the committee time was wasted discussing whether it would be appropriate to send the disinfectants to communities battling alcohol addiction. "If we're going to fight this pandemic flu, we have to do something. Something has to be done now, and not when a virus has spread over the community, you don't wait for that. There should be an immediate apology issued," Garrioch said. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/090623/..._hand_sanitizer According to the article, native communities have been hit quite hard by the swine flu pandemic. It seems stupid to idly sit around debating while the disease spreads. The bureaucrats at Health Canada need a serious shake up. Is this an insult, or are they really just that stupid? Once upon a time the white man committed genocide, by giving them fire-water. Now...
  20. I knew if I said "United States" it would get you to come out of your cave... thanks for the info. From what I get out of that, the answer is "No", they wouldn't be arrested. But there are some people who think that they should. In this case including such observations as, they often use physical violence and sexual abuse to control their kids. But thats a whole different thing, and clearly illegal. This issue of teaching racist views is not so clear. Such a difficult issue.
  21. Nice. Is this like a takeover, in a thread thats about inane takeovers?
  22. Whoa yeah, that video sure says it all. Man those guys were great... So after seeing that and reading some of the facts its obvious that this whole anti-hate crime and the moves made by family services has gotten out of hand. They have no right to take away the kids, unless some sort of laws are broken. Without any other evidence of harm to the kids, I support the return of these children. Wait, theres a knock on my door... --- Ok. Just a paint salesman.
  23. "The children were seized last year by Manitoba Child and Family Services after the girl showed up at her elementary school with racist writings on her skin. One Internet posting allegedly made by the mother under an assumed name said that Jews controlled the government in Canada and what people are allowed to say. The father is alleged to have written under an assumed name that the world would be better off without Jews and that defending the white race requires violence." http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories This is such a difficult one to know how to deal with. While I'm sure many people find white supremacists repugnant, the question should be asked, are we going too far in using the law to control speech or ideas. Even if those ideas are ugly. My view is that its better to take the ideas on directly in debating them and showing them to be wrong, than it is to arrest people for saying things like this. It only justifies to them in their mind that they are right, that the system fears and hates them. Then they can turn to their children and say "See what happens, because we told the truth, the system silences us". But what can you really do? The racists will teach their children what they personally believe. This is a battle for the minds of the next generation. I wonder if the parents would have been arrested under the same circumstances in the United States. We often hear about there being big gangs of white supremacists in the southern states, but are shocked when we find out that its here too.
  24. Gee not very "conservative" are they. If its not a problem, why do it. Because they want the federal government to control.
