  1. .......how many actors in Thor, besides Stellan Skarsgård, are Scandanavian again?  I think the offense would be Sir Anthony Hopkins portraying the All-father first.

Well, I am now feeling extra-triggered after discovering that the character Brunnhilde the Valkyrie will be portrayed as an African woman in the upcoming Thor movie. They have taken a character from Norse mythology and turned her into an African. This seems like exactly the kind of cultural outrage that people were upset with when Scarlet Johansson was cast to star in "Ghost In The Shell", or when Emma Stone was cast as the Hawaiian woman in "Aloha!"

If anyone needs me, I will be in my safe-space until I have had a chance to cope with this.

  2. ....the last bastion was engineering and that seems to be gone.  Some of the items you list as malpractice are influenced by uncontrollable influence which would negate the negligence aspect (teachers dealing with snowflake parents instructing unteachables) and if ever you thought politicians were professionals......shame on you.

In this OP the guy rubber stamped his evaluation because his partner had already told the mall owner everything was OK.  Everything was OK b/c that is what answer was paid for.  It is the definition of negligent homicide.  Greed wins again and forever.  Don't ever tell me private employees deserve their pay over public......this is where both private and public employees failed.....but this guy is the guilty party.

  3. Lack of hiring, relying on OT, gets you non-professional civil servants making $100k.  There's a simple solution to that dilemma if you don't like it.  Let's check the calculator on this; 1 guy for $100k or 2 guys for $65k; 100 < 130......not to mention double the benefits that would need to be paid.  Seems right.

Anyone in the private sector gets what pay he or she can command for their skillset and competes against all others on price and performance. The problem with the public sector is that determination is divorced from reality.

You don't need to pay cops, firefighters, teachers or bus drivers $100k to get plenty of capable candidates. University professors are wildly overpaid too, given how little work they do.

  4. How many countries do you think actually measurably contribute to CO2 levels?  Damn those Namibians!  Not carrying their weight.

China has funded & built more green technologies than Canada could hope to in the next decade so you'll have to try your opinion again. #dirtyforeigners

I agree with Trump on the Paris accord. He's right in that it's a big cash grab. He's right in that it will make the US less competitive.

The media likes to talk about how 200 countries signed onto the thing, but they never point out that only about two dozen actually made commitments to cut CO2 emissions and to fork over cash to be distributed to, basically, all the others. (which was why all the others signed on). This agreement makes mostly western countries poorer. They are expected to put in place expensive controls on their emissions and also fork over money to the third world. Meanwhile third world countries aren't required to do a damned thing except take the money.

China, responsible for 30% of world emissions, has sort of put in place a kind of "trust us" promise to start working on Co2 emissions some day, like, starting in a few decades, much like India and Russia.

Stupid agreement that goes against the interests of western countries.

Islam is not a person, nor even sentient; it doesn't have the ability to make or carry out a plan.

Muslims all over the world are fighting terrorism through words and actions.  Many are dying because of their opposition; many more are simply killed  in the crossfire between military powers.

There used to be a time you could find "professionals" liable for their negligence.  It was why they made the premium they did.  If it could be shown that you did not show the duty of care required and the public paid a dire price......you would pay a price of your own.  Beyond personal pride it was what made sure you were diligent.  With that by the wayside......can we expect more botched jobs costing more lives?

  7. Ummmmm....Canadian economy is revving up with the lower dollar (who woulda thunk)......as much as others will bark raving mad against it.  So what will be the achille's heel now?  Special treatment to QC?  Oops....no constitution/distinct nation fear mongering.......the hippy dippy list is shortening.

  8. ......I knew there was a reason why I felt so shameful and yet at the same time offended......like a wilting flower or delicate snowflake......it was the post rating....who would've thought.

  9. They used to have moral aspects in their platform......guess why it was removed?

    8 minutes ago, Argus said:

The Conservatives don't make politics a matter of private morality a matter of government fiat. They don't have a party platform related to abortion or gay rights.

So if someone has beliefs you don't like all political leaders should ostracize those people, even if thirty or forty percent of the public also holds those views?

I would like any party I'd vote for to ostracize those people.  They can run for a party that proudly stakes a claim on that ideal and see where they fall.  I just don't like party leaders who say "We're a big tent" but they really mean is "I hate what they say but I need them to hold onto power".  Both Red & Blue.

  10. I wish more party leaders would ostracize those that do not align with your party platform.....especially societal issues.  IMO this is why these views still hold water as generation over generation they are allowed to fester in the corner getting sunlight once in awhile to survive.  If leaders put those characters to pasture those ideas would wilt much faster as they should.  Unfortunately greed overcomes that with gaining whatever power that festering mass in the corner can add to their own.

And again, where is the evidence Tory pro lifers weren't allowed to voice their opinions? They certainly spoke up at anti-abortion rallies often enough. I'm sure they spoke up in caucus too.
