  1. It's very sad that she has died, and I think many people will remember her as a Martyr. RIP Ms. Bhutto.
  2. I assumed that most of the posters here follow the news/polls, and although I don't have a site to prove this, but many polls have showed Quebecers are opposed to the views that the government has on the environment and Afghanistan.
  3. Will do, and the same goes for you . Also, don't worry about the insults.
  4. I said that's the direction they're going in. They can't outlaw abortion since they have a minority government. They're strongly opposed to it, so it wouldn't be a coincidence if they do outlaw it if they get a majority.
  5. I corrected my error, and edited my post. However, I didn't lie when I said the Conservatives have cut funding to woman groups across the country. The reason I italicized peacekeeping is because that's what we were doing under Martin and Chretien. Do I prefer soldiers with flowers at the end of their weapons? Yes, if were living in a world that doesn't include wars. Under Harper, deaths of soldiers have sharply increased, and we've moved away from our peacekeeping/rebuilding missions to a combat mission, like the United States.
  6. The majority of Quebecers are upset with the governments stance on the environment and Afghanistan (info courtesy of CTV, and numerous public opinion polls), which is why I think Harper won't win many seats in Quebec.
  7. Regarding the flags, a lot of Americans put the maple leaf on their belongings. Just the past year, I travelled to Europe, and saw a few maple leaf flags on their bags. I asked where they were from, and they said Germany, and Austria. You can ask people who've done a bit of travelling, and they'll also tell you that quite a few people who aren't Canadian, wear the flag. Regarding the cuts to womans programs, I made an error when I said they cut all funding, but they did cut a substantial amount, that resulted in womans groups from across the country angry with the minister responsible for Womans issues. I highly doubt that the Conservatives were elected because of their opposition to respecting Aboriginal rights.
  8. Sponsoring the United Nation's call for the abolition of the death penalty, ratified the UN's "Discrimination Against Women", sent our troops on peacekeeping missions, and created a reputation that has caused people from many countries to put our flag on their bags/hats ect. I havn't seen much action on human rights from the Conservatives. So far, they've cut funding to womans programs, refused to honour the Kelowna Accord, changed Canada's stance on Canadians facing the death penalty abroad, and have chosen not to sponsor a UN motion against the Death Penalty, even thought we've sponsored that event for quite a while.
  9. The Liberals don't care for human rights in Canada? That's funny, considering they created the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and have played such a major role in Human Rights in the world.
  10. Merry Christmas everyone, and any other saying anyone might go by .
  11. Regarding free trade, I don't think it has been very favourable to us during Harper's term because instead of not having to pay tariffs to send down our softwood lumber, he paid them, just to end the dispute. Martin actually fought for our industry, and didn't give in to the U.S' pressure. Regarding the insult, it wasn't personal at all, it's just that I find many Conservatives don't even listen to him (Dion) because his english isn't as good as theirs. His english has dramatically improved in the past year. If he wasn't the leader of the Liberals, I'd still be able to understand him, because his english isn't as poor as some people set out to say it is. Dion isn't being pushed around by his caucus, but rather working as a team player, and making an informed decision by hearing everyone's decision. If the majority of the Liberals didn't want an election, why would he go and force one? It's not only about him, it's about the whole team. You'll see his leadership when the campaign rolls around.
  12. IMO, Mr. Martin saved Canada's finances. He created balanced budgets, eliminated our deficit, and also reduced our debt quite a bit.
  13. And yet it was the Liberals that balanced the budget, and eliminated the national deficit. We're the only G8 country not to have a deficit. If you're referring to his english, I can understand him perfectly fine, as do a lot of Canadians (not the ignorant ones). If you're referring to his ideas, he's been introducing them slowly, showing what the Liberals stand for. And Mr. Dion, believe it or not, has started acting like a leader, and has listened to his caucus, as a good leader does (instead of run his caucus like a dictatorship).
