Nope it isn't racist. It is a pejorative...big difference. racism 1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race 2: racial prejudice or discrimination So if it is not related to the racial background of the person then it is not racism. -

If it is a Caucasian Canadian telling a Caucasian English immigrant, then no it is not racist. -

If a native calls another native "skin" it is not racist. If a black man calls another "nigger" then it is not racist either. So on for all the other examples within their group. However, at any time if we use the terms IT IS a racist epithet, no ifs ands or buts. So being called a "limey" by any other Caucasian is not racist. It may be a pejorative but it certainly isn't racist. What is more funny than a bunch of white privileged guys sitting around talking about what is not racist. You guys haven't a clue and that is part of the white privilege that was eluded to. Because the white male dominant society sets the definitions and the laws we can easily justify our own racist tendencies and have others of our same kind patting us on the back for it. Let's just say that in this article - the OP - you don't get to set the definitions or the circumstances that define racism. How do you think that would go if all of a sudden you were turned down for welfare because there was a minority behind the desk. What would you say then given the fact the he doesn't believe that you qualify? -

Dude. Limey is not a racist term. Limey is an old slang nickname, often pejorative, for the British, originally referring to British sailors. You need education, not sympathy. -

It is not the same thing. If you didn't open your mouth it is likely you would fit in with the rest of the privileged lot. "Limey" is not a racist term. It might be a pejorative but it does not separate you based on your race. That you don't know the difference speaks volumes about the need for general public education. -

Because when these types of questions are asked the intent is to identify a difference. Once there is a difference their are all kinds of 'white privilege' that can be exercised over the minority...refusing to rent, poor service, employment inequity etc. The problem is that in the 'white' dominant society we don't recognize that we are often using our advantages over minorities. Take the "white" invented multicultural society concept as an example While it might have had good intentions the net result is that government and business panders to one segment of one identifiable minority and then boasts that it has dealt with all the issues of the entire minorities. We needn't ask where someone is from. It is none of our business. We should be looking past colour and accents to see Canadians...of all kinds, shapes and hues without distinction UNLESS someone self-identifies to open the conversation. -

As an Anglo-European, you are not a target of racism but a proponent with the "white privilege" that they talk about on the website. So no you wouldn't be offended, nor would you see it as racism because it isn't. Wink Wink. -

First of all I am providing what Edmonton is saying / doing. The website that I quoted is the one with the campaign and it answered your question properly. "Individual racism that is subtle and harder to identify includes:..." Just because someone has an accent doesn't mean they weren't born here also. And just because you don't ~think~ it is racism, doesn't mean it isn't. That is half of the problem with racism in that most racist don't believe they are doing any harm...like these yahoos and those that defend them.... "Racist" costume disgusts Campbellford businessman Residents defend Campbellford in wake of KKK incident Indifference and racism go hand in hand. -

Do you think that just because someone has good intentions that it still isn't racism? Of course as an Anglo-European male you probably don't see anything wrong with it, right? -

Individual racism that is subtle and harder to identify includes: Assuming that a person who is not white was not born in Canada and does not belong here e.g. “So where are you from?” -

That is why you are not credible. You would deny the holocaust. Maybe you should read up a bit more on what actually went down there. You are obviously unable to understand with such limited capacity. -

Sui generis sovereignty. And the fact is that their right as sovereign people exists now unless the government can prove it was removed from them. Six Nations says and can prove they never capitulated. -

You don't understand the law, that much is obvious. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms stands above any other laws. Aboriginal rights stand above the Charter in that no other right can abrogate or derogate from aboriginal rights. When the government refuses to comply with the law, such as consultation, then under common law Six Nations is entitled to self-help, i.e. proprietary estoppel to stop further actions that continue to infringe upon their right to absolute title and use of that land. The occupation of the DCE was not only in accordance with our law but it was done more importantly in accordance with theirs. DCE and Caledonia are on their land (according to their claims) and as such the Supreme Court has rule they have 'superior title' which is not only superior to the property owners and the developers but also any claim the government has over it. So until the government can prove that the lands were in fact surrendered (but given the evidence they have provided so far it doesn't meet the Chippewas of Sarnia test) Six Nations has an absolute right to occupy, police and even defend it against trespassers (which the OPP were doing when they raided the site to enforce an illegal injunction). So your little brain may hurt at the thought of it, but the fact is that everything was done in accordance with the rule of law. It is agreed that there were some tussles here and there and people on both sides of the issue were arrested and charged. Most of the charges were dropped or minimal sentences were handed out on both sides. However, that does not detract from the fact that the occupation was and is legal. Get over it. -

You should be careful about libelling a public figure. He might sue YAO.....especially since I notified him (and captured a copy) of your statement. -

White privilege refers to all the benefits we get just for being white. Most of us are aware of how racism hurts others, but we're not aware of how it benefits us. -
Edmonton campaign to eliminate racism..... Anti-racism campaign fights 'white privilege' Let’s Eliminate Racism in Edmonton Did you know (From Racism Free Edmonton): Child poverty for children belonging to racialized groups is 45% while the rate for all children in Canada is 26% In Canada, members of racialized groups earn 28% less than whites. 23% of those living in Canada incorrectly believe that some races are genetically smarter than others Racism divides communities, threatens peaceful co-existence within communities and entrenches inequalities within society Asking a person where they're really from is racist. They may be fifth generation Canadian.

He must work for government as a lackey. Not only does he hide the truth but he is very practised at trying to dodge it as well. He isn't very good at it mind you and it is probably why he is just some clerk in the basement mailroom pushing a cart. -

In your opinion....which is wrong. The legal term 'proprietary estoppel' is a little used but still effective legal means under common law to stop a third party from interfering with your rights. It is as valid as the aboriginal right to consultation. Maybe you should catch up with the issues. This is a 200 year old grievance and you are notoriously out of touch.
