"Nations of people with broad rights on land all across Canada." I saw that. How is it relevant? So there are more than one sovereign nations, in many places across Canada. Europe has many sovereign countries within its land mass. They have always had borders and border guards. How does the number of them affect the basic point? Are you saying because there are many there should be no border guards? I'm sorry if you feel that I haven't read what you wrote but what you wrote still hasn't answered the specific question!

Tango, it has already been pointed out that you and others are claiming genocide by Europeans against aboriginals by using infected blankets. This would have been LONG before anyone knew what germs were or that blankets even could be infected! This is why some of us are distrustful of oral histories. Considering that those Europeans were as ignorant as anyone else about germs and germ theory, it is far more likely that they simply made a gift of leftover blankets, not realizing the consequences. After all, they no doubt used the same blankets themselves! They of course would have had the benefit of some immunity from growing up in an infected environment. The natives would have had no such antibodies in their blood and would have been far more vulnerable. We should also keep in mind that it was those same Europeans that eventually DID discover the germ theory of disease and virtually all the cures discovered to date!

Or more simply, Ten Years After sang it succinctly about 40 years ago: "Tax the rich, feed the poor, till there are no rich no more!"

As is expected! She IS the head of our Dominion! NOT Britain! I stated that we are completely and utterly independent from Britain, not from our own head of state. The fact that she is also the head of state of Britain is a mere coincidence stemming from common history. You know, there are still many of us Canadians alive today that feel strong historic loyalties to the Queen and yes, even British Culture. Over the years since the Liberal idea of multiculturalism there seems to have been a concerted effort to define being fair to all cultures as denying everything about our British culture. If this isn't a way to encourage resentment against immigrants I don't know what is! Rather a contrary approach to harmony, if you ask me. Some folks seem to like to kick a dog so they can act surprised if he bites them. Please note, I have taken you off my 'ignore' list. You seem to be more civil these days. Let's hope we can keep it that way.

Has anyone yet seen an answer to Riverwind's point about how if aboriginals consider reserves sovereign nations they should expect the same customs checkpoints as any other foreign nation, such as the USA or at a border between any two sovereign countries? Seems to me some folks want things both ways. What else is new?
-
You have your legalities wrong. Canada is a Dominion, not a colony. We happen to SHARE the same Queen as Britain! We have complete and utter independence from Britain. By definition, the Queen is as Canadian as you or I! Any Brit could use your arguments as a reason to consider the Queen as a "Canadian foreigner"!

Sadly, they are NOT a new party! They WERE a new party, as Reform/Alliance! When they merged with the tiny remnant of the old Progressive Conservative Party, they promptly began a process of becoming a clone of the PC party that existed before Reform was ever created. Actions speak louder than words. Can you cite me anything of the old Reform platform in the new CPC? Can you cite me any significant differences between the new CPC and the old Progressive Conservatives? Can you tell me why Preston Manning even bothered?

This is where it all started for me:

Sounds good to me! Get Conrad Black to lead one of the new parties! I'd vote for him in a heartbeat!

Or the entire Spinal Tap album "Smell The Glove"!

After making my last post, I can't stop re-reading those lyrics to "One Tin Soldier". I'm all 'verklempt'! Talk amongst yourselves! Geez, I've gotten to be such an old softie!

Good point! When I hit my teens it was the music of the 60's. It was ALL about politics! It also championed 'hippy' values of non-violence. "There's something happening here What it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a gun over there Telling me I got to beware I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down There's battle lines being drawn Nobody's right if everybody's wrong Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down What a field-day for the heat A thousand people in the street Singing songs and carrying signs Mostly say, hooray for our side It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down Paranoia strikes deep Into your life it will creep It starts when you're always afraid You step out of line, the man come and take you away We better stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down Stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down Stop, now, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down Stop, children, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down" ---"For What It's Worth", Crosby Stills and Nash "One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack) by Lambert-Potter, sung by Coven Listen, children, to a story That was written long ago, 'Bout a kingdom on a mountain And the valley-folk below. On the mountain was a treasure Buried deep beneath the stone, And the valley-people swore They'd have it for their very own. Go ahead and hate your neighbor, Go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, You can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing Come the judgement day, On the bloody morning after.... One tin soldier rides away. So the people of the valley Sent a message up the hill, Asking for the buried treasure, Tons of gold for which they'd kill. Came an answer from the kingdom, "With our brothers we will share All the secrets of our mountain, All the riches buried there." Go ahead and hate your neighbor, Go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, You can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing Come the judgement day, On the bloody morning after.... One tin soldier rides away. Now the valley cried with anger, "Mount your horses! Draw your sword!" And they killed the mountain-people, So they won their just reward. Now they stood beside the treasure, On the mountain, dark and red. Turned the stone and looked beneath it... "Peace on Earth" was all it said. Go ahead and hate your neighbor, Go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, You can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing Come the judgement day, On the bloody morning after.... One tin soldier rides away. Go ahead and hate your neighbor, Go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, You can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing Come the judgement day, On the bloody morning after.... One tin soldier rides away." There are innumerable other examples. These values were suffused throughout almost all the music and culture of the day. We old hippies look upon "cop killer rap" in horror and disgust!

You've put your finger on perhaps the greatest difference between the traditional religions of the New World and traditional Islam, which is also the greatest problem. We have a tradition for hundreds of years of separation of Church and State. To a traditional Islamist, there is NO separation! Militant Islamists who live here in the West seem to hope that they can gradually change western society into one which they approve. Attempts to get Sharia Law recognized are merely first steps. What they don't seem to understand is that to those of us who've grown up here any attempt to merge Church and State is instinctively resisted. It is such a fundamental and basic value that the only way it could be imposed is at the point of a gun. Salespeople have a term they call "deal breaker". This refers to a deal having at least one condition that cannot be accepted by one or the other parties. It doesn't matter if they are offered the wealth of Midas. That particular condition is so unacceptable that they can never accept it. Having a religion control the State would be impossible to accept by American or Canadian society, and not just the religion of militant Islam. You would find only a few "Jimmy Swaggart" types to support the idea. Even trying to impose such an idea with violent force could not work. To western society, doing such a thing would be similar to trying to impose compulsory baby killing. Even the meekest people have limits. What is needed to get through these problems is time. Perhaps we won't get enough but we can hope. Militant Islam is being driven by people of primitive cultures who have modern weapons. The weapons are necessary because as ordinary Muslims thrive and are educated in modern societies they become more 'civilized', for lack of a better word. They refuse to follow old fanatics and think for themselves. Some folks still need to understand that most Muslims are good citizens and good neighbours. The conflicts are coming from relatively small pockets of primitive cultures. I say 'relatively' because there are so many people in the world of the Islamic faith that those small pockets can represent tens of millions of people. An even smaller fraction of that amount are willing to commit violence and terrorist acts. It's the age old problem. 99% of a group may make good citizens but it only takes one with a big enough bomb to be a problem! It is also sad but true that if screening immigrants proves impossible the only other choice may be discrimination in allowing them entry. This is not fair but that is irrelevant. Governments have a first duty to the safety of their populations. They must provide this however they can. If certain countries have a higher percentage of those who might threaten our society then we may have no choice but to close the door to them. Politicians hate making such choices. Essentially, it requires making a value judgement of other cultures. Some Islamic countries would be deemed as having an unacceptable culture that makes immigrants from those countries more of a risk. However, lifeboat choices are not popularity contests. As for fairness, none of our citizens should have to die for the idealism of someone else!

And how is this even remotely possible? Reserves are NOT ridings! According to the Six Nations protesters their reserve is a sovereign country. This means they have as much right to vote in a Canadian election as Nairobi. If they choose to consider themselves Canadian they can vote within their own riding. However, their numbers will always be too small for them to elect their own party to have an MP to represent that riding. What are the chances that they could get enough non-natives to vote along with them for a First Nations party? About zero! Certainly, zero in Caledonia! Even assuming that by some miracle they get an MP elected. Now they need 11 more to form a recognized party. Whoopee crap! Now they have as much power as the NDP, which is zilch! As my dear old Nova Scotian grandfather used to say, "If your granny had wheels she wouldn't bump her ass when she hopped!" Something like that, anyhow!

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it! Meanwhile, the rest of us are having fun! 3 pages of it, so far. That's better than a lot of other threads!

Why do you blame some corporation, in a knee-jerk manner? There is a far more likely culprit. Toronto! This is the city that rejected a plan to use an abandoned mine pit in Kirkland Lake for their garbage 'cuz they felt it wasn't a 'green' enough solution. So they made a deal with Michigan and have hundreds of garbage trucks haul it there down the 401 every day! The Michigan deal is coming to an end. Toronto is frantically trying to set up other options. McGuinty gets a LOT of votes from Toronto! Far more than he does from southwestern Ontario. Any politician would give up votes from those living near Site 41 in favour of keeping Toronto's ridings in a heartbeat! You would think that after watching him abandon Caledonia this would be obvious! Besides the political factors, Toronto needs a fairly quick solution. I think it's only next year until the Michigan deal is off! That's not long enough to go through long environmental studies and such. Site 41 can be up to speed QUICKLY! All they have to do is ram it through. It amazes me me how so many protesting against this site have not seemed to make the connection with McGuinty's government. I guess since he's a Liberal to them he must be a saint who would never sin! He's a politician. One axiom that politicians like to use to excuse their actions is "the greatest good for the greatest number". There are far more people in Toronto. Before someone else accuses me of being partisan let me say that I believe that sadly, most of our politicians would be doing exactly the same thing! Being a politician and being a pro-active statesman is rarely the same.

Anyone heard of the Bedini motor?
Wild Bill replied to Craig1's topic in Health, Science and Technology
And if we tapped into the ionosphere you don't think that the flow of energy to the ground would not affect air temperatures? You're talking huge amounts of energy! What do you think that could do to our weather? I googled up some of your 'Banana motor' sites. I quickly found that what's really happening is a very efficient circuit that allows a motor once started to turn for a LONG time! However, as soon as you try to take any power from the armature shaft the motor quickly comes to a halt. It is obvious the energy comes from the initial startup. Once it is turning you disconnect the battery and it will run for some hours. There was even an exposure of fraud, where some follower had hid a battery inside a relay case! This motor is a science fair curiosity, nothing more. Nowhere did I see anything about being able to have such a motor do useful work delivering more energy than was originally put in. When you say "potential for free energy", what the heck does that mean? My cat has the potential to grow to 800 lbs and eat my motherinlaw but its not very likely to happen! A statement like that is merely a fanciful wish. Like perpetual motion! That's all this motor is. Another dream of perpetual motion. Many people with only a partial understanding of basic physics have been sucked down this path over the years. They see only what they want to see. They don't have enough education to see the limitations. Actually, they really don't want to see them! Do you really think that the solution to all our energy needs is available for free on the Internet and that the only reason it's not happening is because either people are blind or that some big company is keeping it from us? When you think about it, that makes absolutely NO sense! The amount of money some company could make with such an energy solution is mindboggling. A "Banana" motor in an electric car would not only save GM from bankruptcy but make it enough money to buy California, lock, stock and barrel! Are all those automotive engineers just stupid? There was a lovely documentary on perpetual motion machines on PBS. When it comes around again you should make a point to watch it. There's a man in France who has built a mechanical 'ferris wheel' contraption taller than some houses. It is so efficient that once you start it turning by hand it will rotate for days on end. However, like all such designs, whether mechanical or electronic, if you try to extract any useful energy from it beyond what was originally put in then it grinds to a halt. You're being blinded by the 'magic'. Mother Nature has Laws as to how her Universe works. You cannot break them. In some areas we may discover new aspects of her Laws that will allow us to 'stickhandle' around apparent limitations but only if we properly understand and extrapolate from what we already know about her Laws. You would be far better off putting your time and energy into learning true science. I know it takes more effort than dreaming but it actually gives you a chance to accomplish something more. -
"So, gather up the pots and the old tin cans! The corn, the mash, the barley and the bran. Run like the devil from the Excise man! Keep the smoke from risin', Barney! ---Nova Scotian traditional And just to keep this thread political: "Sea Kings in the Sun (Sung to the tune of Seasons in the Sun) Goodbye papa please pray for me My helicopter's crashing in the sea I honestly don't mean to pout, but my future is in doubt, My co-pilot just fell out. Goodbye papa it's hard to fly, When my airframe’s cracking in the sky, For every hour in the air, it takes them 30 to repair, We fly these things on a dare. We've had joy, we've had fun, We've had Sea Kings in the sun, But the engines are on fire, and the Sea Kings must retire, Goodbye Chrétien my stingy one, You could have bought the EH-101, Instead you blew 500 mil, Just to cancel out the bill, Now I need an airsick pill. We've had joy, we've had fun, We've had Sea Kings in the sun We'll be lucky if we reach, a crash landing on the beach." ---Canadian Armed Forces traditional

Geez, a reply to a post of mine from March! You're not the hastiest fellow, Mr. Radsickle! I had to scroll back to see the context of my reply at that time. I truly don't see how my reply was partisan. It seems only logical to me. I pointed out that we would never know what John Tory would have done. Mr. Tory was an electoral failure. He was never in power so we can not say for certain about any of his possible actions. This dump is happening on McGuinty's watch. Who else could be responsible? Should we blame it on Mike Harris, simply because you don't like him? In fact, I don't believe that this dump would be being rammed through the way it is if there wasn't an undisclosed mandate from the party in power at Queen's Park! With all the opposition you would have thought that McGuinty would have stepped in on the side of clean water long ago. The fact that he hasn't speaks volumes. I'm simply describing the situation. I freely admit I don't like McGuinty's government, because of their ACTIONS and his hundreds of broken promises! That being said, I've had even less respect for the provincial Tories in Opposition. By my lights, they've been only slightly less Liberal than McGuinty! The voting choices have been red, pink or rose. I would think if I were partisan I would be championing one of the other parties. So far I can't bring myself to do it. I would vote Tory by default but only for the usual reason I have always used to pick a party - whichever one smells less than the others! Maybe Tim Hudak will inspire me as time goes on but I won't hold my breath. At this stage of my life I've been too Americanized, as in becoming a Missourian! You know, "Don't tell me, show me!" I don't believe any politicians words! I judge him or her by their actions and their history. Now, tell me again how I should be non-partisan. Tell me who YOU think I should trust, and why! I can always use a laugh. PS Me get out and protest? It's a bit of a drive from where I live! I also have to make a living. Unlike some, nobody pays me to protest!

PM irked by isotope reactor shutdown
Wild Bill replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
McMaster University has had a reactor for decades and offered to 'step up to the plate'. http://www.thestar.com/news/ontario/article/651947 Costs have been quoted as from 22-30 million and estimates of about 18 months to make it happen. Apparently, the Harper government has totally ignored the suggestion with no comment. Seems peculiar, considering their fine words about new industries for Canada's future! I guess they don't see medical isotopes as a positive business. -
Anyone heard of the Bedini motor?
Wild Bill replied to Craig1's topic in Health, Science and Technology
So where are you? I'm in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Might not be that easy to drop by on a Saturday afternoon. What's the bicycle wheel for? Does it need to be turned? Where does the energy come to make it rotate? What are you doing with the energy? Is that where the pulses for the de-sulphating circuit come from? Is it not these very pulses that as they re-condition the lead plates also charge the battery? Actually, this is a misconception anyway. A lead acid battery is actually more of a chemical cell than a capacitor. The acid works on the lead and produces an electric potential, or voltage. If you simply immersed the plates in some acid you would be able to draw current immediately, before you even charged it. The charging process is not so much one of putting energy into the battery but rather one of reversing the chemical equation that oxided the lead plates. When they are thus restored to original condition the chemical generating process can begin again at full capacity. De-sulphating a battery restores the lead plates to that original condition. It is necessary because after many 'charging' cycles the oxide buildup is greater than a simple charging circuit can handle. At that point we usually scrap the battery but a de-sulphating circuit supplying pulses at the correct frequency can overcome this 'inertia'. So the energy you are assuming charged the restored battery did NOT come from nowhere or some vacuum! It came from the restoring pulses and/or the chemical reaction of a fresh lead surface on the plates immersed in acid. TANSTAAFL! There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch! If the sandwich is free you paid too much for the beer! -
Who want us gone? The bulk of the Afghan people or the extremists who keep women ignorant and kill them if the poor folks had the misfortune to be raped? The people who gave Al-Queda money, support and allowed training camps in their country? The people who kill children if they accept candy from Canadian soldiers? Why on earth should I respect anything about such neanderthals? Why on earth should I trust them to never attack MY culture? Why should I abandon their women and children and condemn them by our inaction to such a tragic life? You have some values that frankly I find rather hard to understand!

Anyone heard of the Bedini motor?
Wild Bill replied to Craig1's topic in Health, Science and Technology
'Free' energy and de-sulphating an old lead battery are two quite different things! It has been know since the days before the Ford Model T that lead acid batteries can eventually develop a sulphate oxide on their plates. A pulsed current can reverse this effect, by breaking down the oxide into the original plate material. De-sulphating circuits are old news indeed. How is this evidence of 'free' energy? It's one thing to re-condition an old battery. The pulse generator gets its energy from a different source, like the plug in your wall. What's that got to do with 'pulling energy from the vacuum'? I also agree that this should be moved to a technology forum. It must be shown to be true before it can affect politics. I'm becoming suspicious of Craig1's claims since he posted that he had converted a 4-cycle lawnmower engine into a steam engine. Ignoring how the valves work (which makes such an engine a VERY poor choice for a steam engine!) , what did he use for a boiler? I'm more inclined to believe that he is copying someone else's claims from sites like rense.com and posting them claiming to have actually built them himself. I've been looking at stuff like this for over 45 years. Never seen one actually work the way it was claimed yet. There's always some little qualifier that isn't properly explained. I've wasted so much time on this stuff but if someone wants to deliver a working model to my door I'll take a look at it. For that's the kicker. We used to get plans from ads in the backs of comic books. Now we find them on the Internet. You ALWAYS have to build it yourself and it NEVER works as claimed! The authors always claim that you didn't do it right. That's what they did decades ago in the comic book ads and it's still the same today.
