  1. For the LONGEST time, arrogant people currently running the show in the US gave us the finger. We were polite and dipolmatic but time and time again, when we called them on how they are screwing us .... we again got the finger.

I assume you mean figuratively giving us the finger. I'm not sure how you can expect the US to do Canada any favours after 12 years of anti-Americanism from our leaders. Honestly why do you feel like Canada should get any special treatment?

No leader shoudl put up with it. Absolutely none. We said that is enough and we are standing firm. That is the right thing to do.

Fine jump up and down, pull out your hair and cry your head off. See where it gets you.

  2. There are plenty of us Reagan. But when most of our posts are continually ridiculed by the posters on this heavy right leaning board, some of us tend not to bother. Oh, and eureka, good post.

Yes, you're right I should be more open minded to Eureka's brand of tolerance:

Perhaps you could ask your guru, George Bush, to ask God to get a little more active on the liberal/socialist front and strike down all those non-believers who are on the Left and ranged against te mighty army of the Good from Lethbridge or was it Coaldale.

Shame on you for supporting such prejudicial and intolerant comments.

  3. Have you noticed that when a concern is raised about Harper, the folks on this thread who are his suporters can only try to point elsewhere and claim .. "see.. he is not as bad as this other guy". That is a complete acceptance and admission that IS a serious issue .. one that these folks do not want to face or acknowledge.

I would say it is more of a hypocrisy issue than a "he's not as bad as the other guy". How can the Liberals put down Harper's values when they have reneged on promises time and again and are proven to be corrupt.

All of this in end end, just bolsters the case that they have an indefensible situation and quite understandably, they are frustrated.

Correct. It is impossible to defend against negative accuasations about what someone is going to do in the future or about some secret agenda. However, in the case of the Liberals we have 12 years of history to use as an indication of what we can reasonably expect from them in the future.

  4. Wow!?!?!

    Class and respect?????

I point out that Harpers only tool in solving economic disputes with the US is to fall inline with their policy on key

social issues. Issues that will define us as a nation. All you have to respond with is liberal insults and a lecture on good manners. If I politely tell another country to surrender or I'll invade does that make it allright? If I walk in to a house and tie up everyone inside-being very polite the whole time-does that change the exchange that occured?

Should'nt the decissions that will form the foundation of or future reflect the veiws of Canadians and not be made to appease our trading partners?

you people making insults need to look in the mirror.

I don't remember the US "telling us to surrender or I'll invade". You lefties need to learn that treating people kindly and with respect, despite disagreeing with them, will often work wonders in getting what you want. Instead you have this attitude of entitlement and cry "no fair! no fair!" when things don't go your way.

  5. Did something prick where it hurt? Poor lillte Conservatives. Oh those oh so tolerant Conservatives!

God is blessing Canada - at least as you Conservatives count your blessings. He is melting the permafrost giving you a little milder climate around the Tar Sands. He is helping your religous fanatical base demonize the word "liberal" just as He did in the USA. He has allowed you to continue unshaken in your belief that meanness and self interest is the natural order amongst men: at least He has not yet sent a bolt of lightning to change your opinions.

Perhaps you could ask your guru, George Bush, to ask God to get a little more active on the liberal/socialist front and strike down all those non-believers who are on the Left and ranged against te mighty army of the Good from Lethbridge or was it Coaldale.

"Meanness and self interest"? Shouldn't you be referring to the Liberal Party of Canada?

The difference between conservatives like me and liberals like you is we see someone with wealth and think "everyone ought to have that". While you think "no one should have that".

BTW, have you found anyone to take you seriously around here yet Eureka? :D

  6. What we all have to remember here.. is that anti-Americanism is all that's keeping this great country together.

Well that's a very positive perspective.

I am a new Canadian who appreciates that this country is a "Work in Progress" and is to be admired because.

    - Some of our institutions and ideas are still developing and are world models.

    - We don't have a history or aspirations of empire or world domination.

    - Our diplomatic reputation is that of moderation and collaboration.

Well with that self-righteous attitude you'll fit in well here. Might I remind you that this little "work in progress" is thriving on the spoils of "American imperialism". Perhaps you should think of that next time you put on your Nikes or step onto the General Motors gas guzzling bus listening to your ipod. I have to laugh at you people who think we are sitting on top of this morally high island in the middle of the world, somehow independent of the benefits of the US economy. Don't forget the native people whose land you are now living on at the expense of their culture and hundreds of thousands of their lives. Or was that the fault of our mother imperial countries, France and Britain.

  7. Lock 'em up!!

I can see why the yanks would be concerned considering we have these Khadr's on the loose and we are trying to 'liberate' a Canadian terrorist from Gitmo. Terrorism is an acceptable practice under our government if it buys votes (I'd bring up the Madela argument, but I know it'll hijack the post so just ignore it please ), and this is unacceptable.

The greatest threat to the environment in Alaska isn't oil development, but these terrorists.

I was watching a show from the US where they were argueing about the porous Mexican border and terrorists coming through. One of the guys made a great point in saying something to the effect of forget about Mexico, it's Canada we have to worry about because the terrorists are already there and have a large Muslim population to hide in.

I think it's also important to mention Canada's increasingly adversarial role against the US in the way we are giving asylum to US citizens seeking to escape military commitments.

  8. IMR,
As much as I am not a fan of Anders, I will smile on monday night knowing that Rob Anders is the Honourable Member representing theloniusfleabag in Parliament once again.
Sadly, I believe you are right. He will most likely get in because of the colour of his sign, I expect the entire province to 'go blue'. C'est la vie.

Ah, in this lousy system what difference does it make if it's Anders or a cocker spaniel. The only function Anders serves is to give the CBC some good sound bites to rail on the Cons for.

  9. I wonder if this will have any effect on Canada's immigration policies?

Liberals are a bunch of MORONS.

I don't even know what they think about al-Qaida...

Well the fact that the Khadr family is roming around free in Canada should tell you something. It's also largely ignored by the leftist media that Jean Chretien secured the release of Ahmed Khadr from Pakistan freeing him to continue his fight against "the great satan".

I know. I think that liberals believe that our innate right to commit acts of terror is written into both the US and Canadians Constitution and the Canadian Bill of Rights just for good measure.

Come on now, although terrorists are "not true followers of Islam" they have the right to practice their religion. Especially if it involves the propegating of Jewish and American hate...

  11. A study of the Reagan presidency will tell you about statesmenship...

Exactly. Even Bush treats his political enemies with respect. Examples include the recent tour of the White House given to Robert Redford, one of the loonies who said he'd leave the US should Bush be elected, as well as the tributes given to Bill Clinton.

Remember when they did the hanging of Clinton rendering? That speech was classy. As respectful as you'll ever hear one party be to the next.

Right. Total class. After the scorched earth manner in which Clinton left the White House and all the bashing of Bush by Bill and Hilary, Bush offered complete praise of Clinton and continues to do so despite Clinton's relentless bashing of him.

  12. Harper is definately weaker on foreign policy. But if your going to say he has no international ability, then you've also got to stop saying he's going to work hand in hand with Bush. Can't really have both.

Don't understand that logic. Our working relationship with the states seems a little onesided. What could Harper posibly do to resolve this without giving in on issues like missle defence, gay marriage, war on drugs or invading countries on false pretense for oil? Sure we can solve cattle and softwood, we just have to give up on having or own national identiy. So when this comes to pass and Im over "liberating" Iran or North Korea, I wont be hear to tell all you Harper supporters 'I told ya so', so... I told ya so.

What planet are you living on? It has to do with diplomacy or simply manners. Harper won't bash the US in public to win some emotional points with insecure Candians. Conservative MP's won't fire off anti-Bush venom. Harper won't pull out of a deal with out first notifying the people he made the deal with. Harper won't use cheap-shot anti-American campaign ads to to maintain power. It's called statemanship, you libs ought to look into that and re-examine your definition of tolerance.

  13. I hope Candians are smart enough not to believe the half-baked truths and scare-mongering going on by the Liberals, liberals and NDP.

Anyone with half a brain knows that with minority Harper cannot do all the things all you Liberals/liberals accuse him of lest he bring his life in politics to an abrupt screeching halt.

Even with a majority there's the liberal supreme court to overrule anything he does that doesn't pander to any number of minority groups.

IMO, all this fear mongering is being used because their ideas are inferior and they know it.

I don't think the Liberals have any real ideas of their own. They tend to make promises based on other parties' ideas and then renege on them once they get power back. Their whole agenda is to maintain power to keep plush appointments and jobs for themselves and their buddies. It's basically an elected mafia.

  14. In MLK day speech, Sen. Clinton slams the Bush team, saying GOP Congress is 'run like a plantation'

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sparked a Martin Luther King Day political firestorm yesterday by describing the GOP-controlled Congress as a "plantation" during a speech before an African-American congregation in Harlem.

"When you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation, and you know what I'm talking about," Clinton (D-N.Y.) told an audience at the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ during an event sponsored by the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network.

    Newsday

    And

New Orleans Mayor Apologizes for Remark

Mayor Ray Nagin apologized Tuesday for a Martin Luther King Day speech in which he predicted that New Orleans would be a "chocolate" city once more and asserted that "God was mad at America."

    Link

Why are these people allowed to get away with this kind of rhetoric with only a slap on the hand? We all know that if a Republican said something like this, they'd be lynched (pun intended).

This kind of stuff happens all the time and the left always gets a pass. Finnally we have a more balanced media outlets like Fox that are focusing on these incidents. The druge report is pretty good at getting this stuff out. I remember not too far back when Hilary made racist comments about convenience store owners and a liberal talk show host who called Condi Rice "Aunt Jemima". Both were largely ignored. Can you imagine if Bush or Cheney made comments like that, they'd be savaged by the media.

  15. A question was posed on TV to Harper about his foreign policy experience ( CBC Your Turn ). The question was framed in the context of dealing with other leaders who are vastly more experienced than he. What Harper acknowledged about his inexperience was even more concerning than previously thought.

When asked about his foreign policy experience. Harper agreed that he has very little.

When asked if he has even travelled internationally. His response was not much.... but... that he has been to Mexico.

In this day and age, it is critical that our PM have some experience in areas like foreign trade, international affairs and thre G8 summit.

This is a serious gap folks.

You Libs are really grasping for anything aren't you. I'm not sure how anyone could be worse than Paul Martin with respect to foreign relations. Not only has the guy burned our bridges with our largest trading partner but has also failed to keep promises on Kyoto and foreign aid. Not to mention the guy has no verbal skills and makes us look like fools any time he opens his mouth. I mean seriously we'd might as well have Porky Pig representing us.

  16. The stupidity of people in this country never ceases to amaze me. How the Liberals can even be in the running is a sad commentary on Canadian intelligence. The gullability of Canadians is almost comical to watch as the media sways them from one side to the other. Little has changed between the Liberals and Cons. of this year and the Liberals and Cons. of last year yet for some reason the press has decided to push for the Conservatives this year and Canadians followed along. Not surprisingly the press is, at the last minute, now pumping up the whole fearmongering of "Harper is a scary guy" and it appears that the Canadian sheep are following along.

  17. Assuming the media doesn't decide at the last minute again that they don't want Harper as PM, will he actually accomplish meaningful democratic reform? The senate, PMO, election dates etc. etc. or will he be seduced by the concentration of power in the PMO and be corrupted by the system like Mulroney? The system already seems to be encouraging him to promise quite a bit of spending. Any opinions thoughts?

Assuming Harper gets a minority, how is he going to handle confidence votes and a Liberal senate?

Good question. How does that work with the senate?
