  1. Actually I am in control of my health. You seem to be representative of the ideology that believes government should be in control of everything. Actually, it is genetics and your environment which have more control of your health than you do. Like it or not Mr. Clement is in control of your sick-care, not your health-care.
  2. That Mr. Clement is a fine conservative politician. Pushing their own agenda on the backs of Canadians is what fine conservative politicians strive for.
  3. I expect very little of the Conservatives. Or the Liberals for that matter. But when they claim that they are the warriors of clean government, democracy, etc. I expect them to not do the exact opposite. Their mouths and their actions should agree at least once in a while.
  4. Scarey stuff, coming from the mouths of politicians,on our streets, in our cities, in our Canada. At least I can be sure you never changed your opinion on anything......or have you? Well, it may be scary and unpleasant but the truth isn't always pretty. Are you somehow shocked that there would be more homeless people freezing in the streets when housing programs are canceled? Would you be shocked if more people die of treatable disease if health-care programs are canceled?
  5. Economic Left/Right: -6.13 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.62 I'm shocked This test is too accurate blueblood, you are not exactly the opposite of Harper. I am. Multiply your scores by 5 and you end up where I am.
  6. I told you what you want left of center policies, yet you prefer the Conservatives and the two don't add up. Your love of blue is based on something other than policy. It's funny that you are about exactly opposite of Harper and you are such a great fan of his.
  7. I heard that having a womans pretty face in politics takes away from credibility and works against women in politics. That's just what I heard from a pundit on the radio. You heard that from some ugly conservative pundit, so it must be true, eh?
  8. Did they offer any evidence of this? Any proof that his suicide was connected to his treatment? She speaks of Alan Turing, whose skills in cryptography and code-breaking for Britain during World War 2 might qualify him as something of a war hero. While the claim that he invented the computer seems to be hyperbole, he seems to have contributed a great deal to the field of information theory and computer programming. On his death: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing#P...uring.27s_death -k He is not the inventor of the computer but he was the most brilliant person in the field and contributed enormously to it. His very premature death was a great loss to all of us and it occurred because some conservative fanatics would rather kill people than have them be any different from what their narrow-minded definition of normal is.
  9. Tony was a complete failure as minister of health in Ontario. Harper was dumb to appoint him minister of health in the first place. The same goes for Flaherty. As I said Harper will keep Rona in cabinet, she looks great on TV and let's face it - he doesn't have much to choose from - his caucus is full of losers. She would make a great poster girl for Health but I somehow doubt that that's where she is going. It will be a difficult decision for Harper. On one hand she has to be far from anything even remotely linked to environment - she cannot be the face of his huge shift on environmental policy before the election. On the other he doesn't have many PMs with functioning brains and don't make asses of themselves in public. So who will be the new environment minister?
  10. I'm sure Harper's comment on how stupid Canadians are and Day's comment on insulting his wife were just due to mispronunciation.
  11. So a 38 year old quote is off limits but a 14 year old quote isn't? Where's the line? 20 years? 25? 30? If you don't like Harper that's fair. But when you get exposed for being as biased as you are lick your wounds and call it a day. What are you talking about in the last part of your post? Yes, a 38-year-old quote suggesting that smoking may be harmful (when it was widely believed that it was not) is off limits and a 14-year-old quote saying that smoking is not harmful (when everyone knew it was) is not. The last part of my post quotes Day himself. I take it you didn't even read the quotes in the OP. "But when you get exposed for being as biased as you are lick your wounds and call it a day." That would make good advise for both Harper and Day.
  12. Ok, little NAZI. Are you going to stop using "Communist" for everything you don't like, or should we start using Nazi for everything we don't like?
  13. Liberal, blah, blah. I suppose you will blame the liberals that the Canadian population has changed from 90% farmers in the 1880s to 2% farmers in the 2000s. What you don't realize (or don't admit to) here is that what is happening in farming is happening in just about every industry out there. From banking and media to manufacturing and accounting. Industries are consolidating across the board and the multinationals are taking jobs overseas, taking down all barriers and protectionism for north american jobs along the way. However, all that interests you is YOUR industry, YOUR jobs and you want government help for YOURSELF. When it comes to protecting the smaller guys in manufacturing, or banking, communications and the arts, according to you government should get the hell out. If the small guys in YOUR industry don't get government help, then the evil east somehow doesn't like you and the Liberals are after you and blah, blah, it never ends. Again, it's not the industry that is being threatened, it's the small players in the industry. No one is a bigger friend of the big guys than Harper's government. When the industry minister overturned the CRTC decision to give temporary protection to the small guys in the telecom business and to the consumer, you were delighted "No, government should get the hell out and let Bell and Rogers run the show". Well, then why should government give protection to the small guys in farming? That's pretty hypocritical of you - government should help ME when I'm in trouble but government shouldn't help anyone else. Well, the Conservative ideology dictates that the CRTC must be killed and the same goes for your CRTC-The Wheat Board. So what if a couple of multinationals produce all the food? I have 2 telecom companies to choose from, 5 (soon to be 3) banks to choose from, 2 media companies to choose from, Wal-Mart and The Bay to choose from...so what's new here? Nothing - I have little choice in everything, food included. Or should I have special sentiments just for farmers and want special rules/protection just for them because they live in rural areas and hate us "eastern bastards". As for Wal-Mart, you should check the hansard for all the wonderful speeches the Conservatives made in parliament praising Wal-Mart for being the greatest corporate citizen. The Conservatives love Wal-Mart, you should too. It must be ok for city people to lose their jobs and work for minimum wage at Wal-Mart because of Conservative support for multinationals. It's just not ok when it happens to YOU in farming. The West is Tory blue because you are nuts. It's a mean thing to say, but when somebody's ideology is bleeding you and you still vote for them - that's pretty nuts. You don't care for the actual Tory policies, all you care is that they somehow supposedly hurt the east. Not true, but hurting the east and banning gay marriage are somehow the most important goals for prairie dwellers and anything that may appear to achieve these goals is what you'll vote for. Even if it comes back to bite you on the ass. Edit: As rbacon put is so eloquently: "It is up to Harper to bring that realization to the old Communists in Sask. and Manitoba that think they can still eat other peoples bread and not pay for it". What you want from the government for farmers is something Tommy Douglas or some left-winger would do. Harper is diametrically opposed to this kind of thing. As Chuck Strahl put it his goal is to demolish the wheat board but it cannot be done at once - so he is going to do it step by step.
  14. Only right-wing nazis force people to pay for their stupid wars. If nazis love Afghanistan etc, they should fund their war themselves. The taxpayers in this county are overburdened...cut the military and cut taxes... The media in Canada is owned/controlled by 3 people (like it was in nazi Germany), so only nazis allow "free" speech and "free" press like that.
  15. No, nobody should be able to tell you that you cannot be a parasite.
  16. That's 1968 vs 1992. What's really frightening is when a conservative minister and former leader of the party in power is quarter century behind the times. Insulting his wife from time to time and expecting support from the party even if he killed his grandmother with an axe is more evidence that the minister is a lunatic.
  17. I suggest you click on the link in the Scriblett quote and read the entire (short) thread. Damn that left-wing media! They destroyed all the evidence. If I were MD I would get the Koran for Christmas and read up on Islam to be ready for when the Muslims take over Canada.
  18. The posts existed and then the CBC removed the discussion forum. Somebody obviously copied the site before its removal and that is what MikeDavid linked to above. Not paying attention eh? The real CBC discussion forum is right here http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/ridingtalk/2005/11/156.html The comments MD posted earlier do not appear here at all. The site MD posted is a fake site that links to the real one (if you click on links to the discussion for other ridings).
  19. I came across some great quotes from Steve, so I just have to share them with his supporters here: And here's Stockwell being brilliant and eloquent as usual:
  20. Chretien did not put Canada into a mess. Mulroney didn't put the country into a massive mess either. Did anyone think so in 1990?
  21. Harper may like publicity but he doesn't like negative publicity. He is going to keep Rona of course (he can't toss her out of the party like Garth for example because she's been loyal like a dog) but she will definitely end up far away from the environmental portfolio. Maybe minister of sport or parliamentary secretary to the minister of culture of something of this sort or he may create a whole new ministry for her - minister of silly walks, etc.
  22. They didn't seem too extreme. I think Reid's view's are just as extreme as Svend Robinson's. Robinson wants people to die unnecessarily? That IS extreme. Is he fighting to ban vaccinations and blood transfusions or something?
  23. What the heck do you know about the basics of an economy? All you "know" is BS you've read in the conservative media. That is junk written by journalists with an agenda and with a 5-year horizon at the most. Plus some junk from blogs of xenophobes. I presume you are 60 because you don't seem to care at all about the economy 15-20 down the road. Which is fine of course but you can't push nearsightedness as some form of good policy.
  24. In the event of a crisis the gov't should intervene, this is a crisis it affects a lot of the country and solving it would be good for the country, most of the stuff it gets involved in (Day Care) is not a crisis. Well it's a hell of a lot better in doling out cheques which is what your all about, with the gov't getting involved for this little bit because of the market imbalance which results in this calamity is a good thing, if it leads to our being independant, if they go through with these measures you won't be hearing from us again. Funny thing is the measures in the document are CHEAPER than handing out cheques, sets up business that turn into co-ops, and in turn creates a powerful industry in rural Canada. But since it's not the Liberal way of writing a cheque and hoping the problem goes away, it's BS. The gov't is involved in the oil industry heavily, but in a way that encourages development, involved in fisheries, involved in the lumber industry. Do you hate it when the gov't tries to help industry and solves problems and gets results? That's where the gov't should stick it's nose, not in our culture, morals, traditions that is where society should take care of itself. What exactly is the crisis here? Farming is not as profitable as it used to be. That's not a crisis (for you it may be) but that's just a normal part of economic development. Some industries become obsolete and die off and others grow in their place. In the 21st century, it is a much bigger crisis to have 1 in 3 citizens without a high-school diploma but according to you the government should butt out and leave this crisis unattended. That's over 30% citizens with bleak future vs 2% in a bad industry. Your "crisis" is nothing in comparison to the dropout crisis. You have to remember that conservative ideology dictates that government should not get involved in anything (aside from defense, sending out cheques and giving tax breaks). This government will not get involved in your so called "crisis". You can't pick and chose when government should get involved - just to save your butt but nobody else's. You want "to take care of yourself", then do so and stop whining that the government has to get you out of trouble. This is not the end of farming, it is the end of small producers. Industries consolidate all the time and nobody (beside you) will even notice that anything has changed.
  25. Mulroney had a very successful government in Canada. Chretien did too.
