The problem is that this has been portrayed for too long as a political argument when in fact it is an argument over property rights. So I don't agree with you about Northern Ireland. In Northern Ireland, nobody ever tried to undermine the land registry.

I don't think it's the kids who are emulating this. I think it's the parents. I think that, for kids at this age, anything they see on TV needs confirmation before they will believe it's true. That confirmation can very subtle. These little guys are taking things they hear from their parents as truth when adults would view them as subject to judgment.

George Bush has embarked on an attempt to solve the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. To date, nobody has been able to unravel this Gordian knot. Can George W. Bush go where no man has gone before?

Nuclear War Is Not and Should Not Be Unthinkable

I didn't click your link. Can you say it in your own words? I'll click the link if I think you're full of crap. There's a good chance of that. What can I say. You're quoting Rodney Dangerfield. You don't get no respect... -
I guess you missed the embedded reporters part. You want to know what the Middle East has really been like in the past 20 years or so? Read Robert Fisk's "The Great War for Civilisation". Now there's a tale.

OMG. You are absolutely right! That's the way it was when I was a kid. You are so right. At that level, it is the parents more than anybody. Good post!

75th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Starvation

You're joking, right? Here we have the opinion of a collection of anonymous mooks against that of a guy who actually sat down at the cabinet table, was party to the discussions of the President's inner circle, was consulted for his opinion, had all of the input of the US intelligence services at the highest possible security level, went to the peace conferences, listened to the principle negotiators, has had decades to reflect and talk to his contacts... And you want to argue with him? -
Nuclear War Is Not and Should Not Be Unthinkable

That's right! The President is a civilian who is elected by civilians. Eisenhower didn't wear one. The President (whatever his titles may be) tells the military what to do. This is at the core of democracy. -
Me too!

That's the problem. I saw a few interviews of Leaf players who were asked about it. They said basically that it was part of the sport but it had no place at that particular level. Who do you think these little guys are emulating? Hockey is a wonderful sport. It has a fantastic zen: speed, grace, skill, intelligence. A well executed pass. The matching of lines. Reaction times. A break-away: sharpshooter against goalie. A shot from the blue line... I have to give credit to Beckman and the NHL Owners for finally trying to do something to control violence (in spite of their dumb-ass expansion strategy), but apparentrly it is just not trickling down to the farm teams. This whole thing is just very sad.

And when do you feel the surge will end? This sort of thinking amazes me. Look at the Yugoslav wars: these people were still talking about events that happened in the Middle Ages. Do you really think you can overcome that kind of thinking with a troop surge? You cannot impose solutions on people. It doesn't matter how good the solutions are.

Nuclear War Is Not and Should Not Be Unthinkable

Well here's the thing. The military doesn't control the weapons, we civilians do. The big red phone does not sit on the desk of a general, n'est-ce pas? -
Somewhere in here somebody asked what I think of George W. Bush. I think he is typical of a guy who has been put in power by a powerful political machine. I could be wrong, but before his election, I don't believe he had ever been out of the US, aside from a visit to Israel at the invitation of the Israeli government in the runup to his election. This is a man who never showed the slightst interest in the world outside of the US and yet who launched a military campaign to reconfigure the middle east. I think that Mr. Bush is like someone who decides to practise medicine without a license and who finds an HMO who can make a buck by giving him an office and a pushy nurse who tells him what to do.

Heh heh. High five.

You bet. We need Al Jazeeera! We also need a good Asian news channel. There is too much filtering of information by western news channels. If it isn't for political bias, it's for expediency. I'd like to see a Russian news channel too. We are too limited by our news sources.
-
Good idea. The Libs could use a boost. An attack from you would do them good.
-
Right. What's not to get? You were advocating that somebody else should have control over our sovereign territory.
-
No, we think he was a drooling idiot who fell asleep during cabinet meetings. Nixon was a more important president. He at least had the balls to outflank the Russians by kissing up to the Chinese. Of course a military wonk would have advocated nuclear weapons.

I love it when they put Canadian flags on their luggage.

We only love you for your money

As far as peope like you are concerned, we are just collateral damage. Your comment about Trudeau, given what he did to introduce the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and take the country out of the political influence of the British, is ridiculous. If you have any good references to back up your claim, then quote them here and give us a link in case we decide you can't be trusted to quote accurately.

You sort of wore out your welcome when you started making decisions about what rights you had on your territory. I imagine I might find the same on an American site were I to put up posts that suggested Long Island Sound should be open to the kind of nonsense you were suggesting.
