  1. Absolutely correct. Lets elect them, have 5 or 6 per province. Regional representation, elected people. All happy. Lets go have a beer. Its something I would agre with. Not to sure whether or not each province would have the same number of seats or whether it would be a situation where a region (i.e. Atlantic Canada) would be given a certain allotment of seats to distribute. However, another thing Ive always thought would work with an elected Senate (say we go by your idea and give 6 to each province for a total of 66, the extra 6 coming from the Terrritories) would be to have one seat in each province for an Aboriginal who would represent the Aboriginal population. Therefore there would be 66 + 13 Aboriginal senators for a total of 79.
  2. I saw this article a few days ago and thought to myself, "oh Dalton is going to say the Senate is unnecessary and a drain on tax dollars". I shrugged my shoulders and thought of the reasons I disagreed and read on. Then I found out that McGuinty is out too lunch. Being against the Senate is a perfectly legitimate opinion, but to suggest Ontario is under reprseneted is idiotic for two reasons. First, they have the most seats and secondly because the Senate is supposed to be about regional equality rather then population.
  3. I think its actually a decent showing for Tory. He may be closer to the centre then previous Conservative leaders, but I think he's smarter then McGuinty and I think he would be seen as the stronger Candidate if the two went head to head in an election
  4. http://www.ottawasun.com/News/National/200...452013-sun.html I posted this at another site and figured id bring it over here. The McGuinty Liberals are head of Tory's Tories (i would imagine there has been a pun or two made about that one) by 4 points.
  5. I dont think Lord is in THAT dire straits. He will have a fight on his hands, thats for sure. But its one that can be won as long as he fights the campaign with the same passion he showed in 1999, and not the lack luster effort he put forward in the last campaign.
  6. i dunno..if he wants to go, so be it. If he doesnt, thats fine too. I find it absolutley assanine that such a thing is even an issue.
  7. I dont think its the same type of claim though. The basis for same sex marriage, at least in terms of a Charter claim, was discrimination as homosexuals were not being garnered the same rights as straight couples. NO ONE is alllowed to have more then one wife/husband so im not sure from which end a Charter claim would come from. If all of a sudden men were allowed to become polygamists, but women were not, then there would be a claim.
  8. Good choice! Hopefully this ends all the rhetoric between us and the Americans
  9. Any word as to whether former PC MP Rick Borotsik is interested?
