  1. Roman Catholicism, according to official doctrines, can logically stand with secular science and philosophy, including epistemology, evolution and big bang theory. One cannot logically refute the official doctrines of the Catholic faith, or the holding of same. In other words, the 'gaping hole' is in your sweeping assertion. I may be mistaken, but in order to have a valid logical argument, you have to establish the truth of all your premises. In this case the first premise would be "The Roman Catholic God exists." All the other premises could be indisputably true, but if you can't prove the truth of that one, your argument is invalid. It is a matter of faith. Go ahead. The onus is on you to show that this faith can't withstand your logic.
  2. So you are saying that in Bhuddhism there is a god that is worshipped, and this god is "the sum totality of the universe"? Your dodge attempt is good. It is always a good tactic to jump on a subsidiary point and ride it out as far as possible in order to avoid the critique itself. So, would you prefer Roman Catholicism as an example? Surely you don't dispute that it is a religion and a god as you apparently do with Buddhism and Paganism? And just to keep your memory fresh, this is your assertion to which I am offering counter examples... 3. Speaking of gaping holes, find any religions which have a god, that can actually stand up to a logical argument? Besides Deism, Paganism and Buddhism? I believe I said "religions which have a god". And what part of Deism, Paganism or Buddhism doesn't apply here? And the GOD in Bhuddhism is who? God is the sum totality of the universe. And your point is? Or are you just trying to 'run out the clock' as a dodge strategy hoping your little game here will difuse the critique against your argument?
  4. It was in reference to your comment about Southern Ontario air quality. What does Southern Ontario air quality have to do with a Calgary hospital? I made no such comment. But perhaps if every Ontarian blew as hard as they could at 7:00 every morning it might blow it back to Ohio And this has what to do with a Calgary hospital?
  5. This is quite colourful. Was it written by the company's PR-spin people or the union's? GM and Ford are so close to bankruptcy that they would never wander far from Uncle Sam who is due to be called upon very soon to help bail them out of bankruptcy. I can't see India bailing out GM to stay alive. And GM/Ford moving to any 3rd world country would not change their position one whit. They have contractual obligations that don't just disappear by moving away.
  6. If Black stole property from the shareholders, that is a matter for criminal court. I can see you are approaching the topic with an open mind, awaiting the ruling of the courts.
  7. As far as I understand, this is only 'round one' for Black. Black chose the one jurisdiction with the least amount of serious charges against him. He's hoping an aquital in the USA might help him dodge the more serious charges in Britain and Canada. The chances of Black going 3 for 3 are mightly slim.
  8. Are you suggesting that Israel is only modern industrialized and educated nation in the world that cannot live in a pluralistic society? Why not? Andrew Israel has not yet decided if they are a pluralistic nation or not. It is halfway. In some respects, Israel is a Jewish Nation. In other respects, Israel is a pluralistic nation-state. Until Israel decides this question for themselves, regarding their own relgion, you may assume that Israel is NOT a pluralistic society at all.
  9. Actually, this is a very notable propensity shared by many of our Israel-supporting interlocutors on this forum -- a characteristic avoidance of straightforward responses to simple and direct interogatories. Any basic question whose answer might shed real light on the issue is quickly buried in non-sequiturs, imputations, and emotive outbursts. Israel should give up the west bank and all other territories except Jerusalem. I have little sympathy for the Arabs wrt Jerusalem and their treatment of other religions' holy site while they were in control. Interesting to note that the only religious group that has forcefully exterminated all other religions in the city when they were in control was the Christians. I don't believe either the Jews or the Muslims have ever gone that far in Jerusalem. Israel could not have it any other way. They are very responsible for making Palestine what it is today. We must assume that a basket-case Palestine is Israeli policy.
  10. One of the commenters raises a good point. The argument given is the same one used about Saddam's WMD's.
  11. Speaking of gaping holes, find any religions which have a god, that can actually stand up to a logical argument? Besides Deism, Paganism and Buddhism? One of the tents of Buddhism is reincarnation, where the dead reappear at a different plane of existence, somewhere between a cockroach and a human, depending on your behaviour in the current life. A point of faith that is capable of withstanding logical argument.

  13. How about to charge him under the law which the U.S. seems incapable of doing? And what Canadian law did he break? Stop fouling up the discussion with facts! Some people have axes to grind here and you are interfering!
  14. No they are not, and that is what keeps this country below what it could be. Plenty of professional accreditations are not recognized but should be. Test them and let them work. It is a lack of oversight that keeps plenty of immigrants in jobs that are below what they are trained to do. The govt should trump the orgs that do this and demand they be accepted, of course upon testing for competency. Doctors is the most obvious one, and the one I have knowledge of is Engineers. If you have a liberal arts degree or a business degree, it is recognised. You are playing games here trying to assert that limitations upon foreign doctors apply to all foreign educations. That is bulls*t. Only professional licenced associations prevent foreign credentials from being accepted, as I noted above. And, as also noted, this can be rectified with a 1 year course here in Canada (one year is the course for Pharmacology, I'm not sure off hand what the length of course is for Medicine or Dentistry or Engineering). You are crying in your own beer. Not likely to get much sympathy for that.
  15. Good question. I think we should be calling them the NLPC. The NEW LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA. Nickname could be The Libby Lites. Would you prefer that they actually acted like real Tories? I think not.
  16. CPC has always been the Communist Party of Canada in my understanding. They've been using those initials for decades.
  17. Quebec is by far the largest recipient of equalisation payments in Canada - in gross dollars. Newfoundland is the largest recipient of equalisation payments in Canada - per capita. I believe all of the Maritimes exceed Quebec (but below NFLD) in the per capita receipt of equalisation payments, though I don't have any data available at hand. I'm sure it can all be found pretty easily since I've seen data tables on this topic dozens of times.

  20. According to Kant, all religion/faith exists entirely outside the realm of human knowledge. On this basis, any and all religions can easily withstand any logical argument. However, it is the religious people themselves who push their religious claims into the realm of knowledge and that is where all the endless problems with logic and science begin (that never stand up to logical argument).
  21. That's why they call it "your two cents" - because that's what it is worth. What? You're joking right? Many people don't believe the government has any right to interfere in the marketplace like that - indeed many believe that such government action would harm the efficiency and effectiveness of the marketplace. Besides the fact that governments are notoriously bad at this particular activity since bureaucracies are always a slow to respond to changes in the marketplace. Indeed, if you want to be a truck driver in NB, go get your truck driving licence. Nothing is stopping you. I call bullsh*t. In the employment world, all degrees are recognised. Only specifically licensed professions are not recognised across international borders (Law, Medicine, Pharmacology, Engineering, etc.) and even then, most of these technical qualifications can be activated in Canada with a 1 year course. Given your whining about the situation, I don't doubt it. Indeed, I'm tempted to add my voice to the chorus. Canada educates all people to the level of secondary school. No distinctions between rich or poor. So, you must be speaking of 'free university' educations for all. Suffice it to say, we're not a 3rd world country and we like to keep our education system functional. It is meant to be an educational system not a subsidy for poor people's egos. Giving away free university educations is really poor public policy. Just look at any South American or Middle Eastern nation. They all have free university degrees for everyone. Yes. Just like police and fire departments. I'm happiest when they have nothing to do.
  22. Do your homework. Toronto is flooded with minimum wage labourers. They are a dime a dozen and usually unemployed. However, according to most analysis, Toronto is in desperate need for over 100,000 workers in the skilled and technical trades. High skilled jobs can be posted for months without receiving a single applicant. If it is a minimum wage non-skilled job, don't put a phone number in your ad - you will be sorry for the thousands of telephone calls from non-English speakers.
  23. You raise a very interesting question about immigration here. Canada operates our immigration policy based entirely upon the 'points' system (and has done so for over 30 years). This credits language skills, education and suitability to the Canadian economy for entrants. Yet, how come Toronto is totally flooded with seemingly hundreds of thousands of immigrants who can't speak English and can't work at anything except unskilled manual labour jobs? How come an ad for minimum wage day labour job receives thousands of applicants yet any even slightly skilled job at twice the pay draws virtually no applications? Seems like something funny going on here... My own company pays well above minimum wage for unskilled labour jobs ($10-$12/hour) - I'd hire an immigrant if one showed up who could actually speak English. As it is, 90% of our summer labour is supplied by college students on summer breaks or retirees without adequate pension plans.
  24. Agreed. Depending upon US intelligence services to provide Canadian airline security is absurd. US intelligence failed to spot 9/11 and failed with every prediction regarding Iraq. Their 'no-fly-list' is a joke. Can we get British intelligence to look after our airline security instead? Their track record is not nearly so bad.
  25. Austrailian and British Governments have demanded that detainees of their countries be returned and the US government has complied. Many of these people chose to join the Taliban/Pakistani Muj, on their own accord. Khadr was born in Canada, and unfortuneately like the rest of this Brothers and Sisters, heavily influenced by his fathers misguided decision to blurr the line between Islamic Humanitarian Aid and directly supporting Terrorist causes in the name of Islam. Young Khadr was a kid then for S(*Ts sake. That doesn't change the activities he participated in, and it doesn't lessen the fact that as he shot and killed, so was he shot and captured, while others he was with had been ambushed and killed. He is now 20 years old IIRC and I have every reason to believe the treatment at Guantanamo has been ineffective and counter productive to a situation that wasn't good to begin with. At 20 years of Age he isn't the boy he was. But he is a Canadian Citizen, and my guess is that the weakness of our Prime Ministers, have allowed an impressionable boy to have missed a opportunity to right a wrong done to him by his father, that neither he or many in his family can understand. Yeah, Harper can be tough and say, yup kid, you need to stay there till you rot. You terrorist you. I have reason to believe that there could be a great possibility he could be ready to rejoin a group and pick up arms again. But I also have reason to believe that had our government intercepted this young boy early on, grown a set of balls and stuck up for the chance to help him and find out whats going on in his head, there is good reason to believe that the possibility of success would be greater then keeping a kid in a questionable military prison. You two guys can take great pleasure in kicking this kid, but I have to wonder, how long is the US going to keep him. What is going to happen if Guantanamo is shut down, and just what if the US releases him, and since you say not here then WHERE??? You are probably stupid enough to say Pakistan. They will take good care of him!!!! Idiots. You know, there are many things to consider in regards to repatriating Khadr. This is good reason to believe in such a request being premature. But quite frankly, if the US chose to send him here, we would have to deal with the problems immediately. So, they better get off there butts and get ready for such a possibility. But it has nothing to do with ScottSA retarded Title. Good post. I agree completely (including the last line of course). Lets hope that our Government doesn't try to make an ass of themselves over this. The man is a Canadian citizen, born in Canada. The law does not permit our Government to pick and choose amongst which citizens they like and which they don't. Indeed, such an action would put us on the level of those whom we presume to war against.
