He was participating in a peaceful protest under the banner 'We will defeat you with our peaceful movement'. The forces targeted anyone who was moving on the ground with brutal and barbaric repression. Amongst the injured were other opposition leaders who were leading the protest including Hasan Al-Marzooq who received a rubber bullet to the neck and bled profusely. Jawad Fairouz, Al Wefaq's First Vice-Secretary General and former MP, was also injured in the attack. The police forces besieged the area of protest, blocking all routes leading to it.
  3. Injuries as Bahrain police 'attack' protest Protesters in Bahrain say police have fired rubber bullets and tear gas at demonstrators who were trying to take back the site of the Pearl roundabout - the symbol of the protest movement that erupted in February. Bahrainis were marking Ashoura, a day of mourning for Shia Muslims, when the decision was made on Wednesday to move towards the roundabout. Several people are said to have been injured. Bahrain's government tore down the Pearl Roundabout monument in the centre of the capital, Manama, after it became the rallying point for anti-government demonstrations. Many protesters were killed or arrested, but the movement has continued to simmer. Mohammed al-Maskati, president of the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights, told Al Jazeera on the phone from Manama that hundreds of people marched to the site from the village of Sanabis. When the protesters got close to the site of the former roundabout, security forces reportedly fired tear gas and rubber bullets. "There are a lot of injuries. [People are] trying to transfer them to the closest houses to treat them, there are nurses who are volunteers," he said. Fatal injury Also on Wednesday, a woman who was seriously hurt during a recent anti-government protest in the Gulf kingdom died of her injuries, according to the ministry of health. The ministry's statement said the 27-year-old woman sustained head injuries during "rioting" last month in a Shia village near the capital. She died in a hospital early on Wednesday. Bahraini rights groups say she was fatally injured in the head by a metal rod during a November protest and that security forces were responsible for her death. More than 35 people have died in clashes and protest-related violence since February when the pro-democracy protesters, many of them Shia, started campaigning for greater rights in the Sunni-ruled Bahrain. The strategically important and petroleum-rich island is the home of the US Navy's 5th Fleet. Bahraini activists say these factors have led to a far more muted response to their protests, compared to recent uprisings in other Arab countries. ~ Photos ~ https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/392765_190988760991087_107412816015349_387739_407102874_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/387391_292007734176873_136556503055331_945952_1526351986_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/388832_292011274176519_136556503055331_945961_2100279477_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/383262_2593531751719_1057433240_32876394_73594066_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/388283_2593431909223_1057433240_32876363_1206414406_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/393481_286355258067963_120435151326642_703533_570427790_n.jpg http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg616/scaled.php?tn=0&server=616&filename=knbbk.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640 http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg815/scaled.php?tn=0&server=815&filename=ha8vx.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640 http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg863/scaled.php?tn=0&server=863&filename=re9jv.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640 https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/374585_212819578793956_131477963594785_451262_513435820_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/383125_241217545943333_134318559966566_646622_1426808367_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/383278_321570227871437_257223130972814_1264460_1873072941_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/383265_292074710836842_136556503055331_946180_1706692621_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/388866_292073594170287_136556503055331_946178_1536041675_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/377432_321634761198317_257223130972814_1264512_1337268289_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/385390_321641604530966_257223130972814_1264514_135342582_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/388515_321647674530359_257223130972814_1264525_1315159994_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/389964_292150374162609_136556503055331_946505_1396416934_n.jpg ---- Pictures of protesters beaten by police https://p.twimg.com/AgFAm39CIAExzHm.jpg:large https://p.twimg.com/AgFCyR3CMAAqpFl.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/390989_292009327510047_136556503055331_945955_1370046156_n.jpg http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg614/scaled.php?tn=0&server=614&filename=txrea.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640 ---- Crushing cars in Sanabis https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/384365_188286757928055_114024538687611_363256_785482039_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/384032_272505822801842_170666489652443_800404_1845238110_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/374248_248604405203037_151079694955509_715092_990784122_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/390445_10150514313458072_203200448071_10508003_1381687948_n.jpg ---- Choking Shaikh Ali Salman(Al-Wefaq's General Secretary) in Shaikh Hussain Aldaihi house https://p.twimg.com/AgFHqyACMAA8_i2.jpg ---- ~ Videos ~ http://www.twitvid.com/JAA8F http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc9QazFbfWQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATFI9gfh0nQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFnTYI1Uqj4 ---- 7/12/2011 Crimes of Al Khalifa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FsrJ2ZgR2c ---- Targeting the house of Sheikh Hussein Al Daihi (Al-Wefaq's Deputy General Secretary)

(dpa) - A 16-year-old Bahraini was killed Saturday morning when a police car crashed into him during a protest in the capital Manama. Ali al-Satrawi died at the scene due to injuries sustained after being pinned under the police car before it crashed into a wall. Authorities said the driver lost control after hitting a patch of oil in the narrow village street. Protesters alleged the police car intentionally attempted to run them over. More then 40 people have been killed so far in Bahrain since the protests began in February. http://bahrainrights.hopto.org/en/node/3864 Saturday's incident occurred hours after the US and Britain warned their citizens about further unrest in the small Gulf island. 'We remain very concerned about the rising tension in Bahrain,' US embassy spokesman Mark Toner said Friday. He said the extension of a travel alert reflected 'concern with the 'volatile situation on the ground.' Clashes were reported across much of Bahrain Friday. Several arrests of protesters had been made. Protesters are demanding political reform and greater freedoms in Sunni-ruled, Shi'ite majority Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy 5th Fleet Command.

  6. http://english.aljazeera.net/mritems/Images/2011/9/1/20119119125402797_20.jpg The funeral martyr Ali Jawad in Sitra Village (Bahrain) Thousands of Bahrainis have attended funeral procession of a teenager who rights groups say died after being hit by a tear gas canister fired by police. About 10,000 marched on Thursday at the 14-year-old boy's funeral, calling for the overthrow of King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa and the Sunni Muslim royal family in the Gulf state, Reuters news agency reported. The marchers, many of them in tears, shouted "Down with Hamad" and "Death to Al-Khalifa", as they carried the Shia Muslim boy's body from his family's home to a cemetery, a witness said. The crowd dispersed peacefully and there were no reports of clashes with police forces. The government denied that police were responsible for the death, and offered a 10,000-dinar ($26,500) reward for information on Ali Jawad Ahmad's death. "The coroner's report indicates that the markings on Ali's neck are not consistent with being hit with a tear gas canister or rubber bullet as some have claimed," the government said in a statement on Thursday. The boy died after reportedly being hit by a tear gas canister during clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces on Wednesday. Activists blamed the police for the death of the teenager, who was among the protesters in the oil hub area of Sitra. Bahrain has been in turmoil for the past few months since protests by the majority Shia community broke out, demanding greater freedom and political rights. More than 30 people have been killed since the protests began in February inspired by other uprisings across the Arab world. More than 70 per cent of Bahrain's population is Shia Muslim but they claim widespread discrimination by the ruling Al-Khalifa dynasty. Small-scale clashes between police and mostly Shia demonstrators have become a near nightly event in the tense Gulf nation since authorities lifted emergency rule in June. King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa offered compensation to victims of the crackdowns in February, but says protest-related trials will continue. In July Bahrain's leaders opened reconciliation talks, but the country's main Shia party walked out and threatened to stage further protests. An independent fact-finding panel is investigating alleged rights abuses in Bahrain and is expected to release its findings at the end of October.
