  1. Maybe he has an Philosophy or Social Sciences degree? Aren't you a teacher? Of course you're qualified for 95k after 5 years. You're in a public sector union. If you ever step out into the real world (aka the private sector), you'd realize there's a difference between "qualified for" and what you actually get hired for when in a recession. What's stopping you from applying to private sector jobs? Go ahead and let us know how many 95k jobs you get interviews for.
  2. Hahaha all the mini Jacks think they're experts on economics now that they've listened to a few Layton quips. How cute. Feel free to offer your educational background in economics Professor Union.
  3. How does that sound like union busting at all? He's saying that non-unionized workers can foster relationships with the community as well while the NDP keep championing the relationships unions build within their communities. Learn to read please.
  4. People should earn those benefits by working hard and educating themselves. Not by dropping out of high school and blackmailing taxpayers by uniting with other high school dropouts. I don't even mind unions outside of the public sector. If they want to ship their jobs overseas then that's up to them. Speaking of shipping jobs overseas, how's that "strong middle class" in Detroit doing Layton jr.? If you love unions so much, maybe you should sell your car and go buy a home in Detroit.
  5. Sucks to not win the union lottery of getting to piggyback on the private sector's productivity.
  6. Maybe you should save this comment for a thread about economics where anyone is even talking about economics. Once you find that thread, you can go ahead and tell me how Professor Layton told you that paying paperboys 50k/yr with a DB pension is good economics because it creates a "strong middle-class" (by creating a lower class out of better educated private sector workers).
  7. Poor guy. Sounds like he's barely scraping by. Well I guess he's earned it with all that money we invested in his incomplete high school education. You know what they say "a little hard work goes a long way"... or wait was it "slack off until you're 18 and you'll be set for life"?
  8. Translation: I'm going to keep resorting to insults because I can't form a coherent, rational argument and I think I'm smarter than all the "morons" who haven't taken 1st year sociology and philosophy undergrad courses like me. Typical.
  9. I posted links of what the market dictates postal workers should make. Keep blathering.
  10. The market dictates what I make... unlike postal workers. The market dictates 10-12$/hr for cashiers. 20-35k salary for Fedex delivery drivers. I wonder if they get a DB pension with that... http://fedexcanadaeng.hire.com/viewjob.html?optlink-view=view-80316&ERFormID=newjoblist&ERFormCode=any Package handler: "Competitive wages with scheduled pay increases ($12.65/hr- $13.65/hr)" http://fedexcanadaeng.hire.com/viewjob.html?optlink-view=view-79150&ERFormID=newjoblist&ERFormCode=any Evil Oppressive Management: 35-50k (likely with no pension.. certainly not DB) http://fedexcanadaeng.hire.com/viewjob.html?optlink-view=view-80355&ERFormID=newjoblist&ERFormCode=any
  11. You're so out of touch with reality. Yes almost 50k + a defined benefit pension is grossly overpaid for the type of work most post office workers do. That's significantly higher than the median income in Canada. Do you really think the mailmen and cashiers that run the post office possess any unique skills that have earned them an above average salary (even ignoring the pension plan)? These are jobs that should be paying min wage to $12/hr and the only benefits they should have is free postage. It's time for Canada to stop subsidizing the lucky freeloaders who managed to snag a public union job. These people have no right to demand taxpayer money to subsidize participating in a "strong middle class" while workers with similar skillsets and knowledge (or lack thereof) are working for 1/3 to 1/4 the total compensation at Wal-Mart and Tim Horton's. All this union whining reminds me of the people who rented lakeside mansions from TCHC for less than 50% of market rent for 30 years. When the city of Toronto decided to sell these million dollar homes to invest in more efficient community housing, these greedy freeloaders started whining that the government was stealing their homes.
  12. But the real truth is that the elites created the internet so that they could manipulate the working class into thinking they had free access to information. But then the elites created websites such as nationmaster to disseminate false information to cause the working class to start putting the blame on the corporations for the social injustices. This would allow the elites to wrest back control from the corporations and the invisble hand of the market. The elites plan to eventually establish a new world order where there are no countries, just the working class and the elites. Who are the elites? Aliens of course! Of course none of you simpletons can see this horrifying real truth!
  13. b][/b] No one. I work hard and make sure I'm productive and an asset to the firm to keep my job. My job is safe as long as I don't fuck up or start slacking too much. As it should be. Employers aren't charities.
  14. "This socialist system"? I'm guessing you're part of a union...
  15. Yes it's a nice theory that has proven to be deeply flawed.
  16. Socialism is only popular in Quebec. Don't worry too much. The NDP has no room for growth in Quebec, they will be hard pressed to convince the 50% of Canadians outside of Quebec who voted conservative to start backing their socialist craziness instead.
  17. They lost 4 seats in Quebec since 2008. Why couldn't they win them back and then some with the BQ dead and when the NDP proves to be incompetent? There even seem to be a backlash against the anti-establishment socialists ever since the Vancouver riots. People are starting to see that the anti-establishment crowd are just criminals looking for an excuse to riot and to take out their teenage angst on inanimate objects and armored riot police. This country could be painted blue in 4 years.
  18. Not surprising. The ideologies of the NDP and the lefty posters here are pretty fringe in Canada. As much as these people like to disenfranchise the liberal voter and claim these votes as their own, it is much more likely that the remaining liberal voters are fiscal conservative/social liberals that will be moving to the conservative side of the equation. With NDP supporters calling for or supporting the argument that Canada needs an "arab spring", these moderate voters are even more inclined to be pushed towards the conservative side. The longer the NDP gets to voice its ridiculous arguments, the faster these centrists will be pushed to the conservatives. If the conservative party can demonstrate to Quebecers that they want to push for more wholesale provincial autonomy through Senate reform and decreased federal taxing and spending (coupled with NDP incompetence), they may even be able to regain some seats in Quebec. It's likely the economy will rebound within the next 4 years, and with the budget being balanced, Harper will be primed to possibly be the first PM since Mulroney to garner a true majority. A Harper dictatorship is appearing more and more likely. I, for one, welcome our new beady-eyed overlord.
  19. Who ever tried to claim we weren't trying to make cuts? The union wants new hires to START at $24/hr (ie. >45k) with a DB pension...
  20. So maybe you're overpaid too?
  21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKjB8OEiu0k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHTn5m-QGKk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYPdwXcxKfE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X0hKHUCg3Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBcpH8jyLzE Which one's your favourite?
  22. Very strong and well-reasoned argument. Thank you for putting it into terms that even the bleeding heart corporation haters can surely understand.
  23. Also Molly invented the internet.
  24. You really love to think of yourself are a champion of the little man don't you? Employees are responsible because they organized into a group that made compensation demands that almost crippled the companies. Not meeting the union demands would have resulted in equally or more crippling lockouts, strikes, severance, new hiring/training, loss of market share, public relations costs. The employees are part of the company. If they don't mind crippling the company and losing their jobs when the company goes bankrupt then that's up to them. But to say they are blameless because the company signed a contract is laughable. By your logic, management is without fault too... the board of directors gave them a contract. It's the board of directors fault for signing the contract. Also the board of directors is without fault, shareholders appointed them. The only people we can blame are shareholders. So I guess they get what they deserve when a company goes bankrupt!
  25. Quit trying to pass off your opinion as fact. WTF are you even arguing? The adjectives are obviously my opinion. You obviously think otherwise. Thank you for wasting our time on that conclusion.
