So I was shopping for a new car a few months back. After driving everything of interest to me and researching the nuts and bolts, I had finally decided upon a Subaru.

I went to the dealership with the intention of ordering my new car. WhooHoo!

Then we started talking price. I suddenly became overwhelmed by a feeling of hopeless dread mixed with frothing anger!

Subaru Canada wanted $49,000 CND (MSRP) for the vehicle + $1400.00 for PDI..... FIRM.

The same car at a U.S. dealer (45 minutes from my front door step) "asks" $33,000 USD + $680 for PDI , offered incentives AND A Better Warranty!

I contacted Subaru Canada about this, and guess what they told me? "Market conditions in Canada are different and their pricing reflects that".

Well I had to agree............and politely hung-up. So I guess Canadians will continue to be FLEECED by the auto companies as long as we're dumb enough to keep filling their pockets with silly money ($16,400 EXTRA! on the above mentioned example).

Then again, I guess the car companies don't pay attention to the value of currency (costs) when they build their cars eh? They just pay their suppliers whatever they ask for, and be done with it. They're not involved with the Wall Street crowd on any level. Jeepers creepers.

Honda Civics are made in Ontario, and yet it's 30% cheaper to buy one in Hawaii as oposed to Toronto. I guess it's those "market conditions" again.

Anyway, if anybody has a 68' Valiant for sale let me know.

There was a class action suit being played out with this issue being the reason. It was in Last Fridays Paper in the auto and driving section of the Ottawa Citizen, but also must have ran in many others I am sure. They were looking for people who feel they got screwed with the unfair pricing etc. You may want to sign up for that suit. It was going against all companies and I really do not see how the Canadian Companies will be able to resolve this without having to make reparations and lowering prices. I hope this helps you. I know it makes me feel better, just knowing that someone is trying to do something to make these companies liable.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be sure to follow up with this.

I'm not looking for a cash settlement of course, but I'd like to see a fair system implemented for all of us. Automobiles are big ticket items in a society that considers a $1000 tax break a Godsend, so I think that Canadians would appreciate some equity when it comes to many thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars on auto purchases.
