jdobbin Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 (edited) The Liberals have announced that they have picked foreign affairs expert Jocelyn Coulon to run in Outrement, the riding Lapierre gave up a few months ago. It won't be a cakewalk riding with the NDP running Thomas Muclair but Outrement has only gone Conservative once in the last few decades and the NDP have never fared very well in the riding. Coulon, if he wins, could be an excellent Defence or Foreign affairs critic. I've seen him from time to time comment on issues, most recently in the National Post. I think his only problem might be the Jewish community of Outrement although many say that Dion has done quite a bit in the last several months to remedy the situation. I didn't think his comments were necessarily hostile although he did mention that forbidden word: "negotiate". http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...PStory/National Prime Minister Stephen Harper must call the by-election by July 28, while another Quebec by-election in the vacant riding of Saint-Hyacinthe-Bagot must be called by Aug. 25. The by-elections are the first of what will be a series of tests for the Conservatives, whose popularity since the last election has slipped six percentage points, and by nine points in Quebec. He appears to be a resident of Outrement which helps. I wonder how he is at campaigning. He seems comfortable in front of the cameras. Any comment from Quebec residents? Is Coulon a good candidate for that riding? Edited July 20, 2007 by jdobbin Quote
